blueprints for future generations. The global aim is to provide everyone in the society every
possible things that bring adoption of environmental, climate change etc. The sustainable
development agenda is by 2030 they will develop a successful implementation in the 17th
program that they considered in the sustainable development goals. This report includes the
information about the 11th program that is sustainable cities &communities. Which include the

sustainable economy. This program is to work faster for sustainable development in the cities.
MAIN BODY
Understanding the concept of sustainable cities and communities
Sustainable cities and communities are one of the goal under Sustainable development goals.
This has been addressed through SDG 11. This goal is consists of various components and all of
these are contributing towards maintaining the sustainability of the world. (Eustachio and et.al.,
2019). The main motive of SDG 11 is to create safe housing facilities for the people of the
society along with creating an efficient system of public transport and creating the safe public
places. This goal says that, the cities and communities should be free from the natural disasters.
So, the economic losses can be minimized.
Ways of developing and achieving SDG 11
The first step is to identify the most sustainable way for achieving the objective.
Evaluation of different approaches is needed in order to choose the best among all.
Secondly, the focus has to be put on “which activities are required to be accelerated and
which are needed to be ceased”.
Third step is to determining the capability of each country in order to complete the goal.
In case, any country is facing trouble then, the UN organization acts as a supporting hand
for them.

Fourth step is about allocating finance for each target. The budget has to be prepared for
the completion of each target. Stakeholders have been approached under this in order to
set up a strong financial base.
The time frame has to be decided. The time frame is consists of the total time that is
required in order to complete each target.
All the policies that has been determined by the UN is discussed with the government of
different countries and the guidance is given to them in order to achieve the set targets.
The link among the sustainable environment and sustainable development in terms of real estate
sector
Sustainable environment refers to the practice of making interaction with the environment
without harming it. It enables in maintaining natural resources in present era so, it can be saved
for the future generation. The sustainable development involves that development under which
the needs and wants of the present generation has been meet up without affecting the capability
of future generation in meeting their needs. (Salvia and et.al., 2019). On the other hand, The real
estate sector involves the main four sub-sectors and those are retail, housing, hospitality &
commercial. Growth and development of this sector results in ultimately the growth and
development of environment. The concept of sustainability involves sustainable environment
along with sustainable development in it. Both of these are interrelated as it focuses on saving
the resources for future generation. The real estate sector has been guided by the UN to reduce
the emission of CO2 in the environment by 35% by the year 2030. In order to achieve this and
develop the real estate sector. This sector has adopted the concept of sustainability in order to
reduce the harmful emission of poisonous gases.
Case study from the international real estate development of sustainable cities communities
Sustainable cities and communities aims is to make human and cities suitable and settle
for the people who are living and the for the future generation. The international energy agency
acknowledge the real estate has great impact on the environment because of natural resources
and consumption of energy (Clark, 2017). The implementation of sustainability ion building are
more important nowadays because of the environmental and social challenges that faces by
people. Now it becomes an important par to invest in a real estate because of the sustainable
development. The international energy agency contributes the sustainability project ensure the

construction of the project that fir for future. This is the main aim of the agency. Credit Suisse
asset management global real estate implement green property as first seal sustainable real estate.
In 2019 the other or revise seal launched that reflect the digitalization, social demands in that
project. For better process sustainable label such as LEED or BREEAM also taken.
In environmental protection project also considered the heat protection, solar system, greenhouse
etc. Social factor that promotes the security factor and sufficient space for the people to live and
barrier free architecture. The government include the local stakeholder in the project and also the
public authority to gain their approvals for the project (Sang, and Li, 2019). Innovation is
secondary, more than 130 properties across the world real estate have rewarded the green
property quality seal. Through sustainability development program the Credit Suisse asset
management global real estate produce the approach to evaluate and increase sustainability
building in the world with social, environmental dimensions. In sustainable cities and
communication represent the evidence that attract the investor to invest in the sustainable
development program of housing and building that reduce the environmental impact of cities.
The Credit Suisse asset management global real estate contribution to sustainable cities and
communities is green property quality seal. That bring building and investing in the real estate
that confirm strict sustainability criteria in their development and optimization of property in
context of energy efficiency. The impact of the project is owners benefits and low operating cost
because of the energy efficiency and market value of the property. The rental benefits are also
their. The Credit Suisse asset management global real estate values that March 31, 2020 have
more than 130 property that labelled as a greenhouse property with 1.5million m2 of floor space
in the area. Estimated commercial value of the area was 7.7 billion CHF (Case study: SDG 11
Sustainable cities and communities,2020). Worldwide they more than 1200 property of reduction
in CO2 emission. Project main aim is on ESG that is environment, social, governance.
The real estate project contains these type of feature in their manufacturing like, EV charging
station in that urban area can construct these type of project with that the transportation cost will
be reduced and air will be clean. San Francisco is the 4th popular city that install the EV charging
station in parking areas for over 10% spaces. And improve the water conservation and waste
management in sustainable cities and communities this should be implemented because the water
is necessary for all the living being on the planet. The benefits of implement the water
conservation and management in the city is fewer shortage of water and improve the easily

available water, less environmental pollution. Dubai is one of the self sustainable city in terms of
water management via renewable energy they have 60% of Gray wastewater irrigated in
Greenland, and they also banned on plastic bags (Silvestre, and Ţîrcă, 2019). Urban farming, for
sustainable city and community everyone should support the urban farming because food is the
secondary energy for all living beings and mainly for human consumption. Therefore, urban
farming improving the food production and there quality it also ensures the quality of the food.
This increase the demand of the local food and boost local economy of the country it has also
impact on the environmental agricultural supply chain (Thacker, and et.al 2019).
SWOT Analysation of the SDG 11
SWOT refers to the strength, weakness, opportunities and threats. In order to understand the
complete impact of the SDG 11 the SWOT analysation is needed. It enables in knowing the over
all performance of the sustainable cities and communities in terms of social, economic and
environmental development.
The SDG 11 has been proven efficient in maintaining the slums areas. This was one of
the prior goal of the SDG 11. The land where people are living should be free from the issues
related to the slums. The land is the part of real estate. (Firoiu and et.al., 2019). Focusing on this
and making it productive enables the development of the real estate. Along with this, the good
transportation facility has been achieved under this. The main strengths of the SDG is that, it
helps in creating the social, economic and environmental development in the society. In terms of
social development, the SDG 11 is focusing on providing better housing facility to the people. In
terms of economic development it puts a focus on creating good and accessible transport facility
for the people. And, the most importantly, the environmental development has been the prior
goal in order to maintain the sustainable and real estate development.
The SDG 11 implemented various policies in order to achieve the efficient environment.
The companies are guided towards performing their CSR. Along with this, many green house
camps has been set up by the firms around the different parts of the world in order to reduce the
environmental issues. (Elder and Olsen, 2019). The concept of making safe public places has
been achieved by under the SDG 11. The major weakness of limitations of the SDG 11 goal is
the diversified political process of the different countries and less number of efforts taken by
those countries. The world is a big place and it is very hard to take all the people in a collective
form towards completion of common goal.

The biggest opportunity is available for SDG 11 is that, it is taking initiatives in order to
make a better place. This setting an example for living on a land in a more productive manner. It
provides the opportunities of developing the land along with developing the people living on that
land. SDG 11 is collectively focusing on the development of real estate and sustainable
development. The goal is to create a better world for the upcoming generation as well. The
process of sustainable development provides an opportunity for the future generation as well.
Concept of sustainability development says that, the world should become a better place in order
to provide various opportunities for the future generation.
The biggest hurdle in the path of SDG 11 is excessive exploitation of the natural
resources in order to achieve the various development objectives. (Liu, Bai and Chen, 2019). It is
very hard to recreate all these resources, and they are needed on a high ration in terms of
performing various activities. The SDG 11 is focusing on the maintaining of the natural
resources and saving the environment. All the targets under SDG 11, somehow focusing on
saving the nature.
Understanding the sustainable cities and communities in relation to the sustainable and
environmental development
Sustainable cities and communities refers to making cities secure, safe and sustainable. This has
been done in order to provide affordable & safe housing to the people of the society. Along with
this, the main aim of this goal is to focus on the hygiene issues and upgrading the slum
settlements in the country. (Mulligan and et.al., 2020). UN has been focusing on this hardly in
order to establish a safe and healthy environment. It also includes improving the living in urban
and rural areas. This goal of SDG leads to create green public spaces. SDG 11 works on the
concept of making cities and communities safe, secure and sustainable in terms of providing
better life to the people.
The UN has determined 10 targets and 15 indicators in SDG 11. These targets describe the goals
and indicators highlights the metrics through which it can be analysed that the goals are
achieving or not. Six of the targets under this are to be full-fill by the year 2030. This has been
decided by the UN organization. In order to understand this concept with clearance, here are the
targets that has been set in the sustainable cities and communities goal:

This target of SDG 11 focuses on creating the safe and affordable housing facilities for the
people. (Gleason and Cockayne, 2018). This mainly focuses on the slums conditions of the
society. Many houses in urban areas are not in good conditions. Many colonies are facing the
trouble of not getting water on time along with this, such colonies are not properly well-
developed in terms of hygiene. This results in creating lots of health issues for the people. In
order to establish an efficient real estate development, it is mandatory to put a keen focus on the
condition of land and the people living on that land.
Target 11.2 Affordable ans sustainable transport system
This target focuses on creating good transport facilities for the people. Especially for the women,
children and the old aged people with the disabilities. This puts a focus on providing safe
transport to them the constructions of road has been considered as the part of this. So, the people
can have a better experience of transport without facing any kind of trouble. Maintaining good
roads lead to have a better experience in terms of public transport. It helps in solving the issues
relates to the walking distance for the people.
Target 11.3 Inclusive and sustainable urbanization
This target is to be completed by the year 2030. It includes two indicators and that are: the rate of
land consumption to the growth rate of the population and “how much proportion of cities are
participating in the urban planning management”. (Wang and et.al., 2018) Currently, there is no
data available of this. This has been considered as the future goal and at present the UN
organization is working it.
Target 11.4 Protect the world cultural and natural heritages
This target working with the aim of protecting the cultural and natural aspects. There are large
number of funding has been made by the government in order to establish many public and
private natural & cultural heritage. It is hard to create a data regarding this as it is not easy to
separate the cultural and natural aspects of the people. This target works with the motive of
saving cultural interest of the people and along with this saving the nature under which the
people are living.
Target 11.5 Reduce the adverse effects of natural disasters
This target has to be complete by the year 2030. Under this, the main-focus has been put on
decreasing the death ratio of the people that has been occurred from the natural fluctuations.

Especially the poor people with no home faces this issues. They do not have their own land that
can protect themselves from such disasters. This target is mainly for this people.
Target 11.6 Reduce the environmental impacts of the cities
It is important to put a focus on the environment under which the people are living. The
efficiency of the environment impacts the life of the people. (adoff, Borgomeo and Uhlenbrook,
2020). This target following the motive of reducing pollution in the environment and creating a
safe and healthy environment in order to make people life more effective.
Target 11.7 Provide access to safe and inclusive green and public space
This goal is especially for the women, children and old aged people. This target focuses on
creating a better public place for the people of all age. And ensures that no one is facing the
sexual harassment due to age, sex and any disability status. There are large number of public
places are to be established under this. Along with this, the assurance has been given under this
target that the public places are safe.
Target 11.a Strong national and regional development planning
The main motive of this target is to support the social, econono0mic and environmental
development in the world. It ultimately helps in the national and regional development.
Especially, people from rural areas are less developed in terms of social and economic
development. This target has to achieve by the year 2030 in order to implement a better world.
The environmental development ensures the better health of the people. Less pollution leads to
less health problems.
Target 11.b Implementing policies for resource efficiency and disaster risk reduction
Due to the excessive change in climate and excessive operational activities of the business. The
environment is getting affected in drastic manner. The excessive creation of harmful gases by the
companies results in creating large number of diseases and natural disasters. In order to solve this
issue, this target under SDG 11 has been set up. Under this the efficiency of natural resources has
to be maintained by the companies by performing the social values towards the societies.
Target 11.c Support least developed countries in sustainable and in resilient building
Those countries who are still fighting in order to become developed countries are considered as
important element under this target. (Countdown, 2020). For such countries, the financial support
has been given by the UN organization so, they can perform their developmental process.
