Sustainability
There are numbers of definitions of sustainability but all definition depicts a common point that
is providing people a quality life by not harming the nature a bit. Sustainability is defined as the
positive change or improvement which is required to be implemented in order to sustain life by
meeting the needs or requirements of the present generation and also not compromising the
ability to meet the needs of the upcoming future generation too (Liedtke, et. al., 2012).
Sustainable design
The sustainable design promotes the reduction of impacts that negatively affect the environment,
the comfort, and health of the occupants of building regularly improving the building
performances. The basic and main focus of the sustainable design is to improve the environment
productively, reducing the wastage, promote healthiness, and to reduce the consumption of the
resources that are non-renewable (Boons, et. al., 2013).
Principles of sustainable design
Optimization of the potential site.
Minimize the consumption of the resources that are non-renewable.
Use of the products that are environmentally friendly.
Water conservation and water protection.
Enhancing the quality indoor environment.
Optimization of the practices of maintenance and operations.

The center for sustainable development is the perfect example of sustainable design. It was built
for the purpose of serving as a model for the people who are interested in learning about the
constructions that are environmentally friendly. It consists of a living wall that are the natural air
filter, recycled glasses, and geothermal systems of cooling and heating.
