Introduction
Sustainability means to get a perspective or thing to a limited level. The limit level is important
for all prospects and perspectives. The focus in this document is on to ensure Sustainability so
that we can save our mother earth from destruction and extinction of species. This has been
explained in various aspects such as electricity, asset, smart and liveable cities, etc.

Workshop 1
I appeared in a seminar conducted on the topic Current Electricity Supply chain and Future
Electric Supply. I feel that, in this current scenario, we all are facing issues as the population is
increasing day by day, the need for electricity is also increasing. Currently, some natural
resources such as coal and other fuels are used to produce heat energy which in return produces
electric energy. There are various other solutions such as wind or solar energy, but for this, we
need to store them. Technological enhancement should be done to generate electricity. By taking
help of Artificial intelligence, intelligent systems can be made. According to Qi Zhang (2013),
Because of Fukushima Nuclear Accident, the limelight is on renewable energy. The model
suggested here ensures that mixture of various resources such as clean thermal, renewable and
nuclear power will lessen hazardous emissions and efficient generation of electricity. The model
is planned as:
Figure 1: Proposed model
Source: (Zhang, 2013)
I think the storage of various energies such as solar, wind, thermal, etc. should be done so that
we can move towards sustainability.

I choose a topic as Kitchen Appliances are environmentally sustainable or not. I choose this
topic because The kitchen is heart of our homes. There are various issues of Conventional
kitchen appliances which are as follows:
1. Cost-inefficient metrics
2. Air pollution
3. More energy consumption
4. Sound- Pollution
I think sustainability should begin from our homes. We should save energy by using
environment-friendly appliances. The conventional appliances consume a lot of energy and time
in relation to eco-friendly products. Recyclable and renewable products should be used so that
we can save our environment from danger. The components which comprise of powder coating
should be utilized more to make environmentally sustainable. “According to Geoff Kelly (2012,
p. 2), There are 2 types of appliances as thermal appliances and high power appliance. These
appliances should be only used when there is a vital need of them.” I think we should use
appliances when there is more need for them. Like, turn off gas when it is not in use.
I appeared in a seminar conducted on topic Electronic Car. The population is increasing day by
so vehicles are also increasing. Fuel-based cars produce various hazardous gases into
environment. So the solution was use of electronic cars. The electronic car uses electric energy to
run. They use electronic motors to run instead of gas, patrol or diesel. They get power from fuel
cell and batteries. They are eco- friendly because they do not produce tailpipe emissions.
“According to Gilmar (2016) masiero, China is investing more and more in electronic vehicles
due to their eco-friendly nature. “By using Eco – friendly vehicles, we can protect earth from
danger to a greater extent. I think electric cars should be used in place of fuel based cars because
1. Less maintenance needed then other cars.
2. Noise pollution is less than other vehicles.
3. Cost efficient as there is no need for petrol and diesel regularly.

Site Visit
When I visited the site, I felt that we should focus on all issues rather than focusing on one.
Figure 2: Whammy condition
From above diagram, we can say everything on this earth is interconnected. Human beings have
produced various harmful gases into an environment which bought us closer to Whammy. These
gases have polluted ocean, air, etc. to a greater extent. We are moving closer to a tipping point.
More heat is absorbed by air, ground, and oceans. Climate changes are increasing day by day
which is impacting natural resources present on earth. At end, there would be a greater impact on
human beings. To remove this sustainability should be gained.
There are many issues which we should consider as environmental issues, Economical issues,
social issues, technological issues, etc. The problem is global, so problem should be solved
globally rather than solving it locally. I think we should see problem in long-term perspective
instead of seeing it with a short-term perspective. All issues should be considered for efficient
plan so that all issues such as environmental, technical social, etc. can be detected. The experts
should view all aspects. I think, if we follow all these, then we can move towards sustainable
engineering and results. I feel that sustainability is a complex process but not impossible. It
should be focused as we can protect earth from danger.

Figure 3: Site Visit
I think Hannover principles should be followed to move towards sustainable nature and
environment:
1. Both Humanity and nature are dependent on each other as trees get carbon dioxide from
humans to prepare their food and in relation to we get oxygen from them to survive.
2. The designing should be done by considering sentiment of both nature and humans.
3. The future should not be burdened by our present concept of working. We should consider
designing by conceptualizing for a long-term perspective.
4. We should study deeply the generation of products till end so that we can evaluate that
approach where no waste or minimal waste is generated.
5. Humans Beings should follow the concept of efficiency so that all resources can be saved out
from danger of extinction.

6. The design of any component designed by human beings is not perfect. Everything comes
with some limitations with features so maintenance should be properly done.
7. The responsibility of any design is on us only.
8. The information which is received by us should be circulated as much as it can be.
(Anon ,2004).
“According to Liu, j (2015), the sustainability is a complex process, but there are various ways of
achieving sustainability which is needed to be followed on various paths. By these various issues
can be removed such as climate change, air pollution, extinction of species, etc.”
There are various services provided by ecosystem are categorized as follows (Anon, 2013)
Figure Services provided by the ecosystem
I felt that we are gaining various benefits from nature such as fibers, food, Climate regulation,
air, etc. so now it’s our responsibility to protect earth from danger. In development phases,
Hannover principles should be considered so that sustainability is ensured in long-term.
I appeared in a seminar conducted on topic Smart and Liveable cities. In urban cities, the
population is increasing at an alarming rate. By these various issues are growing such as
Infrastructure access, congestion in traffic, pollution, etc. “According to (He, Yuan et al., 2014),

But by taking help of technology such as smart city technologies, these issues can be improved.”
I think Smart cities are possible because of Internet of Things, Cloud Computing and Artificial
intelligence. But simultaneously there is need of liveable cities as for human being peace and
safety is on priority. Livable cities are those cities where there are safety, peace, and
contentment. (Marsal-Llacuna, Maria-Lluïsa et al., 2015). I think Technology is also important to
grow and move towards sustainability and remove various issues which come in day to day lives
of human beings. This can be achieved through smart city construction. With technology,
liveliness should not be in danger. Both aspects such as technological and Liveliness should be
considered to go and perform in the long run.
I appeared in a seminar conducted on topic Whole of Life Asset Management. The owned
property, valuables, etc. by an organization are assets. An asset can both human beings and
things. It contributes to economic growth. As an asset is important for every business, so there is
need of managing them. For us, the main asset is our natural resources, so we need to use it
efficiently. According to chinedu, here a model is developed for sustainability of assets so that
all natural resources could be efficiently used. The plan is in following image
Figure 4: Levels of asset management
Document Page
The whole of life asset management includes initial level of asset till ending point of asset.
(Mccluskey, Jim & Barros, Nicolau, 2016)
There are various phases included in Whole of life asset management which is as follows:
1. Requirements should be detected
2. Creation of effective plan to conserve them
3. Use asset efficiently and maintaining it properly
4. Renew asset if it is renewable
Monbiot Article is chosen because it points out dangerous problem. The problem of extinction of
species and destruction is explained in various ways. The variation seen in environment is at a
slow pace, but we are coming closer to the point where we can’t save our earth. All components
of an ecosystem are interacting with each other to preserve our environment. The responsibility
is on us for any disaster because we are using more and more resources. If anything happens to
nature, then human beings also cannot survive, and hence all species would be fully extinct.
“According to George Monbiot (2018 P.2), the long-term prospects should be considered rather
than short-term prospects. We all are just viewing present and planning according to short-term
goals of it. But instead of this, we should focus on long-term plans.” I think we are focusing
more and more on technological issues instead of viewing environment condition. Large data
centers are made in cold areas such as mountains. The data centre is generating a lot of heat. Due
to this heat is produced in environment and thus making mountains melted which can affect our
future generations. I think the variation in environment should be examined deeply so that
protective measures could be taken.

Conclusion
Sustainability is a crucial process for any perspective. We should understand Environmental
changes deeply so that we come with outcomes and sustainability measures to save out mother
earth from destruction and extinction of species. We should move towards long-term goals rather
than going with short-term goals. We should start sustainability from our homes as an initial
step. Slowly and steadily we will save environment.
