Promotion of sustainable food system
Promotion of sustainable food system to improve food security and prevent obesity is one of
the approaches used by the government in ensuring healthy living within the country since
obesity is closely linked to the food security thus nutritional practices.
One of the risk factors of overweight obesity is poor nutritional practices. Therefore,
promotion of a sustainable food system by the government in an attempt to prevent obesity will
require the government to provide more nutritious and healthy food to the households which will
not predispose them to the risk of obesity. Promotion of sustainable food system involves
government education the household on the benefit of healthy eating and component of a
balanced diet in their meals as these are some of the preventive measures which can help to curb
and prevent the rising obesity cases.
Food insecurity has been a major public health issue since most of the households are not
able to get enough food for consumption hence leading to nutritional complication to the young
members of the household. Therefore, promotion of food security to the less fortunate members
of the community will greatly contribute to the better health of the households. Relief food
provided by the government is healthy and nutritious for human consumption as they contain all
the required nutrients by the body at a correct quantity thus prevents unhealthy eating which will
predispose the household to the risk of overweight obesity especially to the kids and adolescent
population. (Gustafson, et al., 2016, pg. 196).
