INTRODUCTION
Career development refers to the enhancement or movement of an individual towards their
chosen career, job and academics. The following report will be demonstrating the career
development of an individual in the hospitality business as a business manager. The report will
be providing an explanation of the reason for choosing the career, opportunities in that career and
what an individual needs to achieve success in this career.
STEP 1: Knowing why
The main reason behind the movement of an individual towards a career is the values,
strengths (skills) and interests that they possess (Elshaer, 2019). Secondly, it is their choice and
academics which take them towards their career, and in the last is the opportunities present in the
market. The main reason behind choosing to establish career as a businessman in hospitality
industry are my strengths, interest and values that inspire me towards choosing my career which
are as follows-

Facing the challenges and uncertainties with concrete will

Excellent Management of money and people

STEP 2: Knowing what
I chose to become a businessman in the hospitality industry which is rapidly growing
across the world and have many opportunities for growth. Hospitality business refers to an
organisation that is involved in any such activities of restaurant, café, travel and tourism,
beverages, hotels, bars, etc. Businessmen are very important within every industry or sector that
may be in primary, secondary or tertiary sector because they are involved in the activities of
running a business (Goryushkina and et. al., 2019). Business management is all pervasive
function and applies in all forms of industries and there is always the need for business activities
to convert the raw materials into money. Without the business activities the creation of finances
will stop that would lead to inability of the economies to generate finances. Therefore, due to the
pervasive and never stopping demand of businessmen exists in all economies that would give me
a chance to become a businessman for hospitality industry.
Hospitality businesses are never ending activities due to the consistently increasing
demand for new tastes and flavours among people across the globe. Due to the rising income of
people and liberalisation of the global economies more and more people are willing to spend on
and trying new things. As per the estimates of World Economic Forum (WEF) the incomes of
people in today’s world is at least ten times more as compared to the income of people in the
year 2000. It is also estimated that the world is going to see the income rise of at least 20 times in
the upcoming year 2035. The consistent rise in the busy schedules has forced people to eat
outside their homes and most of them seek for reasonably prised snacks and products for

themselves (Lei and et. al., 2021). This has raised the demand for opening a bakery for the
people to provide them with quality snacks and dishes.
The SWOT analysis is provided in order to identify the critical strengths and weaknesses
and opportunities and threats of the Hospitality business which is as follows-

Economic recessions and downfall due to
pandemic.

Unpredictable conditions of war and
terror attacks.
STEP 3: Knowing how
The main steps to get success in getting success in my career are as follows:
Mastering the Skills:
There are certain technical and soft skills that I think could be developed at any point of
time in my life, therefore I will focus on enhancing my skills to become successful in my career
(McGinley, Mattila and Self, 2020). The hospitality industry is changing and growing rapidly
which requires individuals with qualities such as flexibility, resiliency, problem solving, critical
thinking, communication, team building, hardworking, leadership, etc.

Enrolling into Future Education:
The next step for getting success in my career is taking a professional step towards the
education about the hospitality business. There are many ways to get and involve myself in the
hospitality business but with the help of relevant qualification I could make a better chance for
getting success. I would pursue post-graduation degree in Hospitality Resource Management to
gain better understanding and knowledge about the industry to become successful in the career.
Undertaking industry specific Internship and experience:
The last step would be gaining experience in the industry to understand and gain practical
knowledge of the field work (Riley, 2018). This will provide insight about the processes,
equipment, resources, supply chain, competition, legalities, finances, etc. so that chances of
mistakes can be reduced while operating the similar business. This would also help to network
and effectively communicate with the people who could be beneficial and resourceful for the
business.
CONCLUSION
The above report has been elaborating and critical evaluation of a career undertaken by an
individual for the business manager in Hospitality industry. The report had been demonstrating
the skills, abilities, interests and values of an individual that motivates them towards this career.
Moreover, it has been demonstrating the possible growth opportunities, future development and
market opportunities in conducting this form of a business. Along with this, it has been
elaborating three steps with the help of three steps which are skill development, enrolling for
future education and experience in that industry to achieve success in the career.
