a. Brief introduction of the topic
The topic which have been selected in the sustainable land management is the Land
Degradation which is one of the current topics which have been analyzed in the assignment.
As commented by Blaikie and Brookfield (2015), the degradation of land mainly refers to the
loss of the life supporting land resources through the erosion of soil, salinization along with
desertification. There are different kinds of negative effects of the soil degradation on the
overall environmental climate which will be affecting the health of the individuals negatively.
b. The importance/significance/problems
From Land Degradation, the main problems which can be analyzed includes the
deforestation due to which it affects the overall climate of the environment negatively. As
opined by Sklenicka (2016), the soil degradation occurs when the different natural resources
of the earth are depleted and the entire environment is compromised in form of the extinction
of the species, pollution in air and land which will be affecting the quality of the environment
in a negative manner. As commented by Specht et al. (2015), there are different major causes
which affects the soil degradation such as soil erosion, wasteland along with excessive use of
the pesticides and fertilizers that affects the overall growth of the environment negatively and
it will be leading to desertification and salinization.
c. Justification/evaluation of significance
Due to the land degradation, there are different issues which are being caused and it
affects the overall effectiveness of the soil. In such scenario, there are different steps which
can be adopted by the individuals in the environment as to improve the scenario. Firstly, there
can be planting of trees along with reforestation which will be improving the condition of the
land. The construction of the chemical and industrial waste management is the other

technique which can be adopted by the individuals as it will be appropriate for improving the
scenario and it can be helpful in managing the soil degradation. The application of the
different fertilizers can help in making the soil healthy and more resistant to soil erosion
which will make the soil more resistant. The proper disposal of the industrial byproducts can
be helpful in improving the overall effectiveness appropriately. The land degradation is the
alteration in the overall condition of the soil which will be decreasing the actual capabilities
of the product appropriately.
d. Summary of what you consider to be the most important take home message
From the overall analysis of the soil degradation aspect, it can be identified that there
are different kinds of aspects which can be adopted by the individuals to improve the
scenario. The initiatives such as joining hands with the different environment friendly clubs
and spreading the awareness are the two approaches which can be adopted by me to improve
the scenario and it will improve the overall scenario of the soil degradation appropriately and
it will be helpful in improving the scenario appropriately as well in a positive manner.
