INTRODUCTION
Overview of the research
Sustainable construction management is the process of building environment friendly
structures for the public in order to minimise the impact of environmental and waste. In simple
words, sustainable construction management can be defined as the method of using recyclable
and renewable materials while building new structures of building so the consumption and
energy can be reduced in an effective manner (Stanitsas, Kirytopoulos and Leopoulos, 2021).
Sustainability is important for both public and private sector because this helps in using the
resource in optimum manner so that they achieve environment friendly nature in the business. It
supports environment friendly nature so that they build buildings in an effective manner so that
they use the resources of the business in an decreased way. Sustainable practices of building
have results in experiencing high growth in order to improve the overall working of the business
organisation and for dealing with the problems of the environment in an effective manner. The
construction industry is the most effective user of all the resources so that the business operations
of the company in a proper and efficient way (Cai and Waldmann, 2019). With the growing
concerns in the change in climate and nature of resources so that they construct building in a
more effective and efficient way. The environmental changes impact the construction industry in
order to reduce the energy and waste so that they save the time of the labour and money in a
more efficient way. Sustainable construction can be defined as a use of renewable resources so
that they use the raw materials so that high growth and success can be gained in the business
market. It is the responsibility of the construction industry to focus in building materials which
are sustainable in nature and this makes the business more string and helps in constructing
building in a timely manner with less use of natural resources.
Sustainable construction industry is defined as the practice of creating a healthy working
environment that is generally based on the ecological principles. The sustainable practices
related to the construction on six principles such as reuse, conserve, protect nature, renew/

It is important for the sustainable construction industry to utilise the resources so that they deal
with the resources in a more effective and efficient manner so that they acquire more growth and
success in the business market and for delivering better opportunities. On of the best method of
practising sustainability within the construction industry is to by checking the materials that are
used in the process of construction. The material mainly includes recycles plastic, bamboo and
laminated timber so that effective and productive construction can be done and waste of
resources can be minimised (Babalola, Ibem and Ezema, 2019). Developing green buildings are
very beneficial to the overall environment because they help in minimising the effect of danger
and his helps in achieving sustainability within the construction industry. Sustainable
construction management is the combination of construction practices and sustainable materials
related to building in order to minimise the waste for gaining environmental impact in a positive

so that they lead towards the final product and on the advantages and negative impacts that are
expected during the cycle of providing facility.
The UK construction industry is the one that helps in constructing building so that better
employment opportunities can be acquired within the business market. With the increasing effect
of digitalisation, it is important for the construction industry to adopt new ways and technologies
within the business so that they also gain competitive advantage over other rival companies in an
effective way. It is important for every construction business to make use of new and advanced
technology so that they deal with the changing marketing situations in an appropriate and
effective manner (Yu, Yevu and Nani, 2020). With the recent changes that occur in the market
has forced business organisations to make use of new and advanced technology so that they do
the work related to construction in a fast and quick manner. Total employment related with the
year 2020 likely to fall by 3% as compared with the year 2019 especially between the self-
employed workers which experienced a fall of around 11%. But with the increase in the
construction companies with the UK, employment opportunities also gets increased and this
results in gaining future growth and success in the competitive market. The growth of
productivity in the construction industry with the last 20 years has been subdued but also have
experienced hike in the recent years and provided more opportunities.

Background of UK sustainable construction
Sustainable construction generally means constructing with recyclable and renewable
resources and materials. In the process of construction, it is important to take proper care to
reduce waste and the consumption of energy where possible and in protecting the natural
environment around the particular site. The construction industry is considered as one of the
biggest users of contributors of pollution and global resources. The main aim of construction
industry is to build a world that help in improving the lives of future generations and using
methods related to eco-friendly. Sustainability is the most important factor that help in
maintaining the friendly and healthy environment for clients so that they optimum utilisation can
be acquired. The UK sustainable construction helps in carrying out the activities without wasting
the resources so that they deal with the harmful impacts in a proper manner so that they attain
high success and growth in the competitive market. Sustainability in constructing developments
is a complex and vast subject that should be considered from the early stages so that environment
can be protected from the harmful effects. The construction industry has a high impact of
environment, from emissions to use of energy as they mainly relies heavily on fabrication and
fossil fuels and shipping of raw materials. Around 45% of the total UK carbon emissions come
from the construction of the building in which 27% from the domestic buildings and 18% from
non-domestic. 13% of the products that are delivered to the sites of construction are directly sent
to the landfill actually being used by the labour in the process of constructing the building. 32%
of the landfill waste come from the demolition and the construction of buildings and this requires
proper utilisation of raw materials. Sustainable construction management helps in building a
sense of responsibility in the minds of people so that they deal with the changing marketing
conditions in an effective manner (Onat and Kucukvar, 2020). By going green within the
construction industry can help in attracting new workers generation so that positive approach can
be carried out in the business market. Environmental and social practices are often considered as
the key considerations when individuals look for employment and sustainable construction
management is that strategy that help in standing out above other employees that are working
within the construction industry. Green building has a moderate level in the UK and this enables
market penetration has been rising and is generally expected to continue in the long run.

There are different different examples of sustainable construction industry that exists in
the UK. The Beaufort Court at Hertfordshire, which is a great example that supports green

building construction in UK. It is considered to be a zero-emission building structure that helps
in saving the waste and energy consumption so that they construct building with effective
materials and in less cost. This is one of the innovative head office for RES that is Renewable
Energy System. The following organisation follows up to date techniques related to sustainable
building, high standards of efficiently managing energy and different types of renewable
technology, clean designed to give all cooling, power and heat needs.
Another example of sustainable construction industry within UK is MACE which focus
developing and transforming within the business market. The business organisation mainly focus
on fulfilling three priorities and they are defined as follow a sustainable world, delivering unique
value and grow together. This helps in saving the extra cost of construction and results in
achieving the predefined goals and objectives within the competitive construction industry. They
focus on reducing the carbon footprint and in making the future with carbon neutral free by
'steps without footprints' strategy.
Sustainability plays a very important role within the UK construction industry because this helps
in improving the overall health of people who are actually using the buildings, which in return
result in improving the productivity of workers in the process of construction. This helps in
making the place free from all the harmful effects and makes the overall working environment
more positive and healthy for the people pursuing work at the construction site. It helps in
increasing the overall productivity, protecting the noise, using the safe materials and in
improving the overall quality of life.
Problem statement
The main problem identified in the present research is due to the problem of climactic
changes which the construction industry faces at the time of implementing sustainability within
the construction business. Previous construction industry has faced the problem of air pollution
in the process of construction which generally affects the health of the workers that are working
at the site. They also face the issue of safety and security among the business organisation
because they are not choosing the sustainable environment which results in reducing the overall
growth. As the UK population is increasing and this makes the cities and towns run out the
construction site as they are having that particular land for constructing the building in a proper
manner. But with the help sustainability within the UK construction industry they can improve
the overall quality of environment and this results in saving the time and cost at the time of

including all the information which is important for preparing the reader and for understanding
the topic in an effective and detailed manner. This part mainly includes sub section that tells
about the functioning and role of topic and the company so that the all the aim and objectives of
the business organisation. This helps in knowing about the execution of the research on the given
topic in order to research aim and objectives in a proper and effective manner.
CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW: The second chapter of the research is literature
review which helps summarising the information on the selected topic in a detailed manner. This
section is that part of the research that helps in discussing about the past published data about the
chosen topic. Literature review collects secondary data which is generally gathered by different
researcher about the topic so that detailed information can be acquired. It is important for the
researcher in gaining the aim and objectives of the research in an effective and significant
manner.
CHAPTER 3: RESEARCH METHODOLOGY: Research methodology can be defined as the
third chapter in the research which tells about the type of data to be gathered for the present
research. It helps in choosing the type of research method so that detailed information about the
research topic which mainly includes research philosophy, strategy, approach, choice, data
collection tool for conducting the research in an effective and efficient manner. This is the most
important part of the choice made for gathering information for the research is collected and

important part of the choice made for gathering information for the research is collected and

interpreted. The researcher has selected quantitative data for carrying out the present
investigation with the help of questionnaire.
CHAPTER 4: DATA ANALYSIS AND FINDINGS: Fourth chapter is data analysis and
finding which helps in finding the quantitative data in a proper and effective manner. In this raw
information which is extracted by the researcher by selecting the proper research tool so that they
carry relevant information about the study. Data analysis is the quantitative approach that helps
in calculating the numerical data and figures in an appropriate manner and this helps in gaining
accurate information from different number of respondents.
CHAPTER 5: CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION: The last chapter is conclusion
and recommendation. Conclusion is the final summary about the research that has been done so
that the research can be completed in an effective and timely manner. Recommendation is all
about giving suggestions to the industry so that they can improve their performance and also
overcome the challenges in the research.
Conclusion
It has been concluded from the introduction part which includes background of the
research topic in a short form and is considered as a short overview about the organisation. This
chapter also helps in determining the aim, objectives and questions related to the particular topic
that has been selected by the researcher in the current research. Rationale research is also defined
in the present research which helps in determining the research objectives in an effective and
significant manner. This also explains about the structure of the dissertation that helps in
defining about the information related to every chapter that helps in completing the whole
dissertation in a proper manner.
