INTRODUCTION
Sustainable Tourism is a concept that is related to visiting to any place as a tourist and
making a positive impact on society, economy and environment of that particular place (Enoch,
2016). With the development of tourist destination and tourism industry the impact on resources
of the destination need to be taken into consideration as it may affect them adversely. Due to this
the requirement of sustainable planning must be done which will facilitate effective
management. In this report TUI group is taken which is an Anglo German organisation offering
various services of travel and tourism industry in various countries. This report includes
evaluation of impact of tourism industry and the process that can help in developing an effective
sustainable tourism. Apart from this contribution of the stakeholders or tourism partners is
analysed that contributes to global strategic development.
TASK 1
P1) Adverse impacts of travel and tourism that leads to sustainable tourism development
Tourism industry is important for each and every economy as it provides various job
opportunities to the local people and contributes to the growth of the economy (Edgell 2019).
But the sustainability of the environment must be taken into consideration as it may have adverse
impact on the environment. The adverse impact of travel and tourism is given below:
Scare Resources: The resources are scare in context to the needs and wants of the
individual due to which various problems are faced by the travel and tourism industry. The
visitors faces an issue of lack of electricity, water, connectivity to remote places etc. Due to
excessive use of the resources the level of underground water is reduces, soil erosion occurs as
for providing better services trees are cut down (Lund-Durlacher, and et. al., 2019). For dealing
with problems, the visitors are requested to use these resources effectively so that the problem
can be managed. the increasing pressure on the environment and natural resources various
institution on state and central level take initiatives such as they promote use of public
transportation, limited supply of water and other resources, restrictions on construction on some
places and many more. This enhances the focus upon sustainable tourism competition can
effectively be managed and better services can be provided to the customer.
Environmental consideration: With the increasing footfall on any place the quality of the
life of that particular gets affected adversely. From tourism point it creates pressure on the nature

as the limited resources are excessive utilised and thus it leads to the cost to the nature. For
providing better services to the customers by way of better hotels and roads large areas are
cleared by cutting down thousands of trees. Due to this animal faces loss of their habitat and
ensuring their survival they need to move to some other place (Wood, 2017). The disposal of
waste and water is another issue that is being faced by tourism industry as due to this the
environment gets polluted. For dealing with it effectively it becomes important for travel and
tourism organisation to bring strategies in action so that sustainability can be introduced in the
environment.
P2) Conceptual development of sustainable tourism
Sustainable development is a concept with the help of which the impact on the
environment of various activities cab be reduced. Positive sustainable development facilitate
development of the local people as with this the environment can be managed effectively. With
this various threats can effectively be managed and damage can be minimised. For this various
initiatives are taken by the government and various institution so that the impact on the culture
and local people can be managed.
With the help of sustainable tourism economic incentives can be provided to the local and
habitat of wildlife can be protected. The income so generated by the governmental bodies are
utilised for conserving the resources and environment (De los Rios and Charnley, 2017).
It has evolved from social perspective as well because it offers various opportunities to
the people so that income of the people can be increased. For developing a particular region
sustainable tourism is very important as with this various people can attracted so that culture can
be exchanged and standard of the local people can be uplifted. Further it facilitate the protection
to the environment as with this the waste can be disposed off efficiently and resources can be
utilised.

For maintaining sustainability of the tourism it is important for the authorities to adopt
various principles so that developmental process can be supported (Joyce and Paquin, 2016).

Using resources sustainably: The resources must be utilised by the organisation such as
TUI so that the business can be made sustainable for a longer period of time. As a leader of the
industry TUI has adopted significant campaign “Better holidays, Better world” which is based on
four pillars which facilitate effective utilisation of resources and in improving the customers
experience. Such pillars are value chain, operations, customers and wider industry base (Diaz
and Kien, 2019).
Reducing over consumption and waste: Focusing on sustainability aims to reduce the
wastage of the resources as this will enable the organisation in managing the cost of operations.
Also with this the quality of the services can be improved as it will enable them to fulfil the
requirement related to the protection of the environment. With this principle all the individuals
and organisation can be held accountable for various actions that are taken by them.
Maintaining biodiversity: For achieving the objectives of sustainability in the tourism
activities focus must be on developing a balance on the various natural, cultural and social
aspects so that they impact can be managed. Balance among all these aspects will facilitate TUI
to take competitive edge as with this they can create distinction among their services with that of
the competitors (Kolk, 2016).

Conclusion
It is concluded from the above report that the organisation need to consider the impact of
various activities related to the travel and tourism. With this they can make the industry
sustainable as the impact on environment, culture and society can be managed. The role of
stakeholders must be taken into consideration so that various policies and strategies can be
formulated as with this the organisation can manage resources, infrastructures etc.
