INTRODUCTION
Sustainable and responsible tourism is the kind of tourism which contains complete
account of its current and future social, economic and environmental impacts which addresses
the needs and wants of tourists or visitors, the industry, host communities as well as the
environment. Responsible tourism is about making better places for people to live in and better
places for people to visit. This concept is about identifying the local significant or important
issues and act towards dealing with them. Basically, sustainability is a goal which can only be
achieved by persons who are taking responsibility to achieve it. While responsible tourism is
about taking responsibility for making tourism sustainable (Mathew, Sreejesh, 2017).
Disneyland Paris is an entertainment place in Chessy, France. Disneyland Paris has long-
standing commitment to environmental stewardship. Throughout the year, company leads an
action plan which is based on different focused areas which includes activities contributes
towards sustainability and responsible tourism (O’Rourke, 2019).
In this report the concept of sustainable and responsible tourism has been explained along
with its role, functions and mission. The purpose and principles of tourism development,
challenges and problems faced, the impacts of tourism activities will be explained to give
complete knowledge. In addition to the above information, this study will also highlight the
concept of the sustainability implementation and various ways to develop sustainability of tourist
destination.

LO1.1 Concept of sustainability and responsible tourism development
The main aim of sustainable tourism to retain the economic and social benefits of tourism
development. The sustainability refers to meet the individual or personal requirements without
compromising the future generation people ability to get their need. Sustainability is also concern
with economic development and equity of social (Mathew and Sreejesh, 2017). As all the
activities performed in economy involve the uses of resources and out of those many can not be
renewed in nature. The tourism should consume the resource in a way that it will not harm the
environment. These activities of responsible tourism leads to profitability and help to work
successful. As in the 1980s the sustainable development has become very essential in every
economic as it help in growth and profitability of nation (Burrai, Buda and Stanford, 2019). The

concept of sustainable has been important from 1970s onwards, the idea is firstly highlighted by
international union for the conservation of nature and its resources. The World tourism
organization explained sustainability development is the need of current tourist places while
enhancing opportunities for the future generation. The enhancement of sustainability is uses to
manage all the resources to fulfil the needs of all the environment.
LO1.2 Sustainable development in Disneyland Paris
More the 60 year the Disney is using the environment sustainability throughout the
world. As in 1995 the Disney had contributed around $70 million to reserve the wildlife and to
save them around the world (Scott, Hall and Gössling, 2019). The another step is made by its
Walt Disney corp., they have reduced the uses of greenhouse gas by 41 percentage and also
focus in using the resources in optimized way. The Disneyland is making lots of affords to
develop its efficient sustainability to retain for long-term. They have skipped the use and throw
plastic straws and stirrers in all the locations of Disneyland. The annual count of straw and
plastic stirrers are 175 million and 13 million. Elimination of plastic uses help Disney to stand

related to tourism. The organization help all the companies to sustain in the international market.
The world tourism organization is an international agency entrusted by the activities of
promotive sustainability, responsible tourism.
The mission of the company is to enhance the sustainability of tourism development
which help to preserve the natural resource globally. In today world the wildlife and natural
resource are mostly exploited by companies so with the UNWTO assist to make affords to

to develop the sustainability (Rahmafitria and et. al., 2020). Tourism development refers to
further growth as well as maintenance of its industry in the particular. It can also understand as
the enhancement of strategies and the plan to expansion, development and encourage the tourism
in selective area. There are lots of elements which are being included in the development of
tourism. The Disneyland Paris is making the planning before doing any activities. The planning
is a hard task as the organization and the destination have to follow the roles and regulation
related to planning.
There are different principles of sustainable tourism use while planning for tourism are:
Using resources in sustainable manner: As the people who are doing tourism need to use the
destination resources very efficient. There should be not wastage and not to harm the non-
