Introduction
Tourism development is defined as the process of enhancement of the tourism
industry of a particular country effectively, the development of the tourism helps in the
overall development of the economy also. It involves creating essential plan and
strategies in order to increase tourism of a particular country, implementing proper
strategies leads to attracting large number of tourism in a country through developing
strong brand image of the country. In order to enhance the tourism development the
destination management plays an essential role, sustainability is described as balanced
environment, effectively satisfying the needs and wants of the present. For this report to
offer suitable recommendation for tourism development the sustainability as issue is
taken into consideration. This report helps in analysing the importance of sustainability
in the tourism development along with major issues of tourism management and
solutions for the issues identified are also highlighted in this report.

Analyse the relevance of destination management to the tourism development in Kavala
Tourism is one of the most growing and developed field around the globe, this
area offers livelihood to a number of individual which leads to overall growth of the
economy, but through this enhancement there is one part that largely suffers that is
environment (Aazami and Shanazi, 2020). There is increasing concern for the
environment, ecological degradation, effective loss of the cultural and traditional
heritage. The sustainable tourism enables in focus on these areas through making the
travel eco-friendly through mentioning it as nature based tourism. The tourism
management plays an essential role in the management all aspects of the destination
are evaluated and managed effectively and efficiently whether it is marketing activities
related to the tourism, availability of local resources, accommodation services,
environmental concern and activities and events related to the tourism. Tourism is one
of the essential area of a country allowing them to enhance their economy through
attracting large number of tourist and money to the local economy effectively (Alarcón
and Cole, 2019). The tourism management is very essential in the overall development

and growth of the tourism through evaluating the essential factors of the tourism, it also
helps in enhancement of the local cities, towns, resorts and so on. It helps in
formulating essential strategies in order to ensure that the tourism adds quality value to
a particular destination. In case of Kavala which is one of the most beautiful seaside city
in the Northern Greece, city is mainly known for serving as the main point of Christianity
in Europe along with city declared as UNESCO world Heritage site. City has vast
number of tourist all around the year, in order to continue to attract large number of
tourist effectively, the tourism development will play an essential role for the country
(Chingarande and Saayman, 2018). The sustainability in the tourism development of the
Kavala is mainly focused on three factors such as economy, socio cultural and
environmental factor of country.
The sustainability in the tourism allow the country to fulfil the demands of the
tourist as well as protecting the nature and tourist destination along with enhancing the
sustainability in the future effectively. Sustainability has become the major factor
because the enhancement of the tourism is largely depended on the management of the
economic, ecological and environmental factors and the social compatibility. In addition
to this handling the biodiversity, cultural integration. The sustainability of the tourism
helps in attracting large number of tourist as there is increasing concern about the
environmental factors among the tourist which make to be more attracted towards
nature and clean environment. The development of the sustainable tourism is a
procedure which allows the country to fulfil the demand of the current tourist as well as
the host country along with enhancing the needs of the future. In addition to this the
sustainability tourism management has enable the local council take certain actions
regarding the enhancement of the tourism of the Kavala such as conservation of the old
town, a new marina and a beach resort. These actions taken by the local council of the
city to enhance the living standards of the local community and will help in attracting
large number of tourist to the city (Hales and Larkin, 2018).
Discuss major issues surrounding the tourism management in Kavala through applying
suitable theoretical model
There are number of issues that can occure during the tourism management,
these issues directly impact the tourism of a particular country which leads to influencing

the economy of the country also. In case of Kavala, there were number of issues faced
by the city which directly impacted their tourism in the city and the economy of the city.
One of the major issue faced by the city was due of the present pandemic COVID 19.
Kavala has been directly affected by the current pandemic Covid 19, there has been
travel restrictions imposed by the government. The occurrence of the current pandemic
has directly in effected the Kavala city of Greece effecting nearly 70% of the local
people that mainly depends on the tourism industry. The kavala has an international
airport which was been closed down due to the current pandemic restricting large
number of tourist to enter into the city in order to maintain social distancing. The covid
19 was the major issues which has created huge impact on the economy of many
countries around the world. The another issue that has influenced the tourism
development of the Kavala, Greece is the economic crises faced by the Kavala, Greece
also the continue political tensions with Turkey. There was economic crises in the
Greece due to the biggest recession has lead to directly influencing the economy of the
Greece. The recession the Greece economy directly impacted the economy of the
Kavala (Holloway, and Humphreys, 2019). If the economy of the greece gets influenced
in any way will directly impact the Kavala, due to this the tourism of the Kavala was also
affected. The sustainability of the country gets directly influenced due to the various
economic issues, the natural environment is one of the most essential resource for the
tourism of the kavala. There are number of sustainability issues faced by the Kavala
such as
 Increasing threat to the Ecosystems and biodiversity due to the increasing focus
on attracting over tourist to the place.
 Continuous changes in the climate from excess consumption of the fossil fuel for
the travel, hotel and accommodation requirement of the tourist.
 The another rising issue is the excess use of unsustainable and inequitable
resources such as over consumption of the water or energy, or excess amount of
the waste.
 There is also increasing concern for the attracting over tourist which makes the
local area over crowded and making the environmental impact along with the air
and noise pollution effectively .

of the Kavala, Greece region on implementation of the principles of the sustainable
tourism development of the city. This model enables in the effective use of the various
environmental resources which plays an essential role in the development of the tourism
along with effectively handling the important ecological process, it also helps in the
analysing and protecting the socio cultural diversity of the host country effectively
(Mandal, 2018). In addition to this the long term economic functions are evaluated
effectively along with offering socio economic benefits to all the major stakeholders that
are fairly divided. The sustainability development is part of the tourism development,
mainly considered to be the conditions of the tourism industry as a whole. The various
issue of the sustainability tourism such as climate changes, environment factors, threat
to the ecosystems also increasing water and air pollutions are effectively considered in
order to attract large number of tourist in the country.

producer of the product which is considered to be the destination. This helps in
analysing mainly three aspects of relationship between the tourism and sustainable
development as highlighted below:
Interaction: The tourism involves offering unique experience of new place, which
leads to including essential amount of interaction among the host society, tourist and the
local environment host country.
Awareness: The tourism plays an essential role in making the individual more
aware of the various environmental issues and also the cultural differences among the

environment. Even countries are taking positive actions towards the sustainability of the

city like Kavala which is surrounded by nature.

There are number of solution that can be taken into consideration in order to
promote sustainability tourism in country. In case of Kavala, which has been largely
impacted due to the economic crisis and present pandemic COVID 19, it is very
essential for them to maintain for enhance their sustainability to continue to attract large
number of tourist effectively. The Covid 19 has largely influence their environment and
also the economy (Phuc and Nguyen, 2020). The various solution that can be
considered in order to create sustainable tourism for the Kavala are highlighted below:
 The fist one is the effective utilisation of the natural resources, the city needs to
ensure that they are effectively utilising the natural resources available in order
to create sustainable environment in the country.

 Also the another solution that can be considered in order to create sustainability
can be use of eco friendly tour operators, which will allow the company top
reduce the use of any kind of non eco friendly operators which directly harm the
environment.
 The country should focus on creating awareness about buying more the local
communities which will lead to the enhancement of the local communities
automatically leading towards the enhancement of overall economy of the
country.
 Country should continuously promote their culture also the respect for their
tradition and culture should be promoted by the government officials of the
country. This will help the country to attract large number of tourist.
 More number of hotel are moving towards offering sustainable and ethical
products and services to their tourist in order to be sustainable (Pickel-
Chevalier, 2018). The hotel in the kavala needs to ensure that there are using
eco friendly product and service in order to promote sustainability even the
tourist needs to ensure that they are choosing the places which is eco-
conscious.
 The another solution that can be taken into consideration by the country in
create sustainable tourism in the country can be effectively focusing towards the
reduce of wastage in the country also working towards reducing air and noise
pollution.
The proper evaluation of above discussed solution will allow the country to create
effective sustainability in the country and attract large number of tourist. The loss faced
by the city due to the current pandemic has directly effected the economy of the country.
Creating sustainability tourism will help country to attract large number of tourism and
enhance growth and performance of the economy (Scheyvens and Hughes, 2019).

properly analyse and execute the above mention solution. In order to properly execute
the solution the various factors can be taken in to consideration by the Kavala, such

the sustainability of the tourism, the tourism management will allow city to evaluate and
mange all the essential factor related to the enhancement of the tourism industry
whether it is related to sustainability or not. It formulate essential policy related to the
welfare of the environment. Effective research and necessary technology will help in the
execution of the essential resources effectively (Scheyvens and Hughes, 2019). There
are number of technology available that can be used in order to make everyone aware
of the sustainability and its importance, making everyone aware of various solution will
make it easy for the country to execute them. In addition to this, various ecofriendly
product and services can be used by the hotels, accommodation facilities in order to
promote the sustainability. Also the clean environment should be promoted with the help
of various eco friendly communities present. Also there should be proper policies and
guidelines on wastage of water and other essential resources by the government.
Proper execution of various solution will help in the effective development of the
sustainability tourism in the Kavala leading towards attracting large number of tourist
(Tu and Zhang, 2020).

From the above report it has been analysed that sustainability plays an essential
role in the growth and enhancement of the tourism development of a particular country,
it enables country to focus on using eco friendly and sustainable product and services
and also helps in imposing positive impact of particular country which leads to attracting
large number of tourist in the country effectively. This report helps in analysing that
sustainability is the essential factor behind the growth of the tourism of the Kavala.
Certain issues of tourism management of the kevela such as increasing threat to the
ecosystem, environmental factors, continuous climate changes and so on are also
analysed in this report. Also essential solutions such as effective utilisation of the
natural resources, use of various eco friendly tour operators, offering sustainable and
ethical product and so on in order to overcome those issues are also analysed along
with their execution effectively.
