INTRODUCTION
Tourism and hospitality industry plays an important role in GDP of an economy. The GDP
of an economy can be increased or decreased with management of tourism and hospitality
industry(Higgins-Desbiolles, 2020). Tourism and hospitality industry maintains and preserves
one country’s traditional and cultural heritage and traditions and values and beliefs with them.
London Eye is one of the most famous tourist destination in London. It is also called
Millennium Eye. It is located at the south of river Thames in London. It is a two minute walking
distance from London Dungeon. It was opened in 1999.

It is important for the tourism industry to adopt sustainable and responsible policies and
practices that support community conservation projects, recycling and treating waste, conserving
water and energy, provide training and fair compensation to employees and hire staff members
from local community. All these sustainable and responsible policies facilitate London Eye
destination to attract higher number of visitors and maintaining differentiated positioning among
all competitors (Jamal and Camargo, 2018). It is important for the destination to incorporate
sustainability into decision-making process that provides various financial advantages as well as
attract the attention of number of investors and visitors that leads towards gaining sustainable
competitive advantages. Some sustainable and responsible policies and practices in the context
of London Eye destination are explained below: Environmental sustainability: Waste management is considered as the most important
sustainable approach that help business to ensure optimum utilisation of resources.
London Eye destination implement the sustainable practice of recycling and reusing
natural resources in order to reduce the impact on environment conditions. Respective
destination also takes actions regarding reducing the carbon footprint and wasteful
practices that attracts number of visitors towards destination. Social responsibility: It is considered as the most important responsibility of organisation
to become socially responsible for employees, customers and community(Sharpley,
2020). London Eye destination’s organisation need to provide suitable compensation and

others benefits to employees that retain then with organisation for longer period of time.
Quality services and experiences is to provided to visitors that attract them towards the
destination. It is important for the London Eye destination to pay attention towards
community responsibilities through providing employment to local employees. Economic responsibilities: It is important for the organisations of London Eye
destination to maintain honest as well as transparent accounting practices as well as
regulatory compliances that improves economic conditions and attract number of visitors
towards destination.
Issues and challenges faced
Sustainable policies and practices are important to be followed for the betterment of
tourist industry especially here London Eye. There are many issues and challenges faced by
London Eye with implanting these policies and practices for its tourists(Milićević, Bošković and
Lakićević, 2021). These issues and challenges needs to be addressed soon for the betterment of
tourism industry in and around London. This will help in London in having more tourists and
people, thereby increasing the revenue and profits of hospitality industry and all other industries
running in London. These issues and challenges are described below in the following points: Management of London Eye: The management of London Eye is yet another issue as
there is no proper management of operations and functions. If there were proper
management then there would be better growth and many more tourists present at
London Eye. For proper management of London Eye, the government should implement
various policies and practices that will help in more profits and revenues. Poor governance: There has been an improper governance while implementation of
policies that are adopted for tourist places. The government is irresponsible with their
functioning of London Eye. Because of the result of poor governance, there are these
many issues and challenges that are faced with the operational activities that are being
run in and around London Eye.
 Weather conditions: Weather conditions do not support implementation as weather
conditions are always unpredictable. The weather can ruin operating and working of
London Eye as rains and stormy seasons are not good for working. If the weather

conditions were damn supportive there were many revenues and numerous tourists in
London all because of London Eye.
Sustainable and responsible theories and models
Sustainability become is the most important approach in current business environment
because customers are aware regarding the eco-friendly aspects (Seraphin, Yallop, Seyfi and
Hall, 2022). Significance of sustainable development is enhanced that enhances the requirement
of implementing sustainable and responsible theories that lead London Eye destination towards
growth and provides it sustainable competitive advantages. Some sustainable theories in the
context of London Eye destination are explained below: Corporate social responsibility: Corporate social responsibility is defined as the approach
that need to be implemented by the London Eye destination to fulfil its responsibility
towards the social, environmental and economic aspects. Through fulfilling these
responsibilities organisational of destination maintains differentiated image in the minds
of visitors and attract them towards its services. Implementation of the concept of
corporate social responsibility lead the destination over other destination and enhances its
popularity and profitability. Stakeholder theory: There are various stakeholders that are related to the London Eye
destination such as employees, government, visitors, community and other that are

Thanh, 2020). It is important for the destination to provide quality experience to its
visitors, follow all rules as well as contribute in the growth and development of economy.
Destination need to analyse needs and demands of visitors then provide services
accordingly the attract them and others as well.
 Greener economics: It is the another sustainable theory that need to be implemented by
the London Eye destination to maintain the beauty and greenery of destination that attract
higher number of visitors to spend their vacations in healthy environment.

CONCLUSION
From the above presentation it can be stated that London Eye attracts many customers
and is a great tourist destination spot in London. This presentation involves discussion about
various policies, practices and issues and challenges that London Eye has to face while
implementing these policies and practices. Even theories and models are also discussed in above
presentation.
