TASK 2
P3 Exploration of purpose and principles of tourism development and planning to minimise the
adverse effects of tourism
Tourism development can be defined the process of keeping all the elements balanced
which are focused for attracting large number of tourists. It is very important for the tourism
sector enterprises to make sure that all the steps which are taken for this purpose are analysed
twice so that possibility of mistakes could be ignored (Carasuk, Becken and Hughey, 2016). It is
very important for reducing adverse impact of tourism. For this purpose, different principles of
tourism development and planning are also required to be focused. Purpose and principles of it
are as follows:
There are different purposes of tourism such as healthcare, leisure, relaxation, cultural,
ethnicity, participation in events and spiritual. These purposes serve the needs and requirements
of various tourists who can have a separate purpose to visit the country. It is also helpful in
enhancing the image of a nation. Another purpose of tourism is to provide work to people of a
nation. They are required to provide tourists lodging, food, transportation and other facilities
which are needed for travelling in a country. It also advertises the name of a nation all over the
world.
Principles of tourism development-
The initiation of tourism should be with the help of community-based inputs and its
control should lie with that particular community.
Tourism must provide employment in the country and there should be a link established
between it and local businesses which is essential for generation of income. It will also
solve the issue of unemployment in many countries (Jamal and Camargo, 2018).
A code according to international standards must be established for tourism at different
levels- national, regional and local. It must be ensured that the code is being followed.
Proper education and training programmes must be started to raise the awareness about
tourist points and heritage spots of the country. It is necessary so that people get to know
about them by getting more information about them.
By paying attention towards all the above described principles and purposes all the
adverse effects of tourism could be reduced. If all the principles are focused then it will be

beneficial for all the tourism sector entities to carry out all the operations properly and deal with
negative situations in systematic manner.
P4 Evaluation of the process of tourism development and planning and challenges along with
problems associated with it
While planning to attract large number of visitors it is very important for all the tourism
sector entities to follow all the steps of tourism development and planning. Procedure of it is
described below:
Reconsigning market trends: It is the first step in which tourism sector entities are
required to analyse the market trends so that appropriate changes in the way of attracting
visitors could be made. It is the first stage where all the alterations in the market trends
are analysed and then changes in policies are made (Lee and et.al., 2017).
Setting objectives accordingly: At this stage, tourist attractions try to set new objectives
for themselves after making the changes. All the goals are set according to situation of
business and its current state in the market. Here, objectives are formed on the basis of
changing market trends.
Implementing strategies to achieve objectives: It is the third stage of planning
procedure of tourism development in which board of tourism destinations try to formulate
new strategies so that large number of tourists could be attracted. For example, if an
objective of increasing number of visitors by 5% is formed then it is essential to form
strategies accordingly so that all the desired goals could be accomplished successfully
(Mathew and Sreejesh, 2017).
Making timely changes in method of promotions: It is the last stage of tourism
development and planning in which tourism destinations try to make changes in the
method or manner of promotion which is used by them currently. With the help of it, all
the desired goals such as making increment in number of tourists could be attained.
While planning for tourism development all the above described steps are followed by
tourism sector entities. With the help of this procedure all the long term goals which were
formed by them previously are achieved successfully (López-Sánchez and Pulido-Fernández,
2016).
