INTRODUCTION
The aim of the study is to analyse the concept of sustainable
tourism development in the context of Qatar. Qatar is a land
of opportunities and tourism has great scope in that area.
The factors or hindrances in the sustainable tourism
development is also studied in the study. The different
stages for the planning of sustainable tourism are also
covered for a detailed study (Sharpley and Telfer, 2015).

Sustainable tourism can be defined as the tourism that
creates a balance between the environment, economy and
socio-cultural aspect of the host nation. It plays a major role
in preventing the biodiversity and attempts to reduce the
burden on the environment. The local culture and traditions
are retained so as to have authenticity in tourism.
Sustainable tourism generates income, employment and
conserves the natural habitat and ecosystem (Stephenson
and Ali-Knight, 2010).

and redeveloped buildings to ensure sustainability and security. The
World Tourism Day was observed in Qatar recently. The ‘Green
Architecture’ in Qatar is working on sustainable architecture which
includes traditional Qatari architecture with latest eco-friendly
methods incorporated (Sharpley and Telfer, 2015.
Doha is one such city where sustainable tourism is flourishing. The
downtown regeneration program focuses on preserving the historical
architecture and is accepting worldwide acclaim.
