3.1 Environmentally Sustainable Work Practices
a. The environmental sustainable work practices that can be implemented at Wantirna
School is students must be allowed to submit only soft copies in order to save the
environment and lower the usage of paper and ink of printers. However, if students
find it very necessary to submit the soft copy, they must be allowed to print only the
final copy after approval from the professor and by proofreading the content
(Murugesan, 2008)
b. The submission of the soft copies will save the paper and thus it will not create
pollution in the environment (Shen et al., 2011). On the other hand, if the university
makes it mandatory to submit the hard copy, the students must be allowed to print
only the final copy else repeated printing will deduct 1% of the mark each time. This
will save electricity usage and thus the electricity bill will also be lowered.
3.2 Current Practices
a. The usage level of the paper, printer ink and electricity are discussed below:
Paper: 120 pages for each student
Electricity Bill- $2000 for Wantirna building
b. Each student is asked to print a hard copy of the participant manual and the
assessment booklet. The participant manual is 90 pages long and the assessment
booklet is 30 pages long. It has been found that as most of them carry out repeated
printing, 5 papers are considered to be wasted and thus it will create pollution.
Therefore, the issue of waste disposal will arise in such a case (Schwartz et al., 2008).
On the other hand, as the heater, cooler and the computers are turned on during the
school hours, the energy charges of the Wantirna building are found to be $2000.

The papers used in printing are taken from school office work paper which costs $17.45 per 5
reams. This paper is FSC certified paper. The electricity bill is generally found to be $2000.
3.3 Setting Targets

b. In order to arrive at the above-mentioned target, the specific focus must be provided
to each task. It should be checked that there is a penalty imposed on the students if

they take out the hard copies more than once from the printer. This will lower the cost
of the school authority as the papers used for printing are also costly (Fadeeva et al.,
2010). Further, it should be checked that the litters are thrown in the correct dustbin
and there should be a separate provision to dump the cardboards and the papers. On
the other hand, halogens must be replaced immediately and this will lower the cost of
electricity charges.
c. In order to make the above changes, I will consult with the academic coordinator and
the principal of the school. I will carry out demonstrations for 1 week in order to
check the above-mentioned targets will be successful or unsuccessful. In doing so, I
will require the help of the faculty members and the students who must abide by the
laws and rules framed (Johnson et al., 2004). Although it might be seen that many
students or parents might complain about the new system, it is important to adopt the
environmental-friendly system in the institution.

f. The original targeted plan will be preferred as the targets are considered to be relevant
and result oriented. Further, it will yield valid results if adequate monitoring is carried
out and thus the entire school will be an environment-friendly area (Green Jr et al.,
2012).
3.4 Implementation
a. The following steps are to be taken in order to achieve the target:
 First, it is necessary to check the different tasks carried out on the school premise.
 The activities that affect the environment are to be categorized.
 The source of those activities and the alternative targets and ideas must be framed.
 Meeting should be carried out among the school authority and the exact idea for
framing the plan will be set.

d. I will check how these tasks will be carried out by the allocated people and thus
provide them with ideas on handling the task. Moreover, if they want more
environment-friendly ways, I will assist them accordingly (Yusup et al., 2015).
3.5 Monitoring
a. The progress of the project can be monitored by checking the trial of each task. If the
trial is successful, specific individual’s in-charge of the task will be allotted to handle
the task (O'Rourke, 2003).
b. The results of the project will be communicated to the school principal as well as the
academic coordinator. This will be co-ordinated only when there will a reduction in
the wastage of paper, less consumption of energy and disposal of the correct wastes in
the correct place (Epstein & Roy, 2001). Moreover, this will be carried out only when
the above-mentioned actions will be under control within a time frame of maximum
of 1 month.
c. In order to seek feedback or suggestion on the project, it is my responsibility to carry
out a timely meeting with the faculty, academic co-ordinators as well as the class
monitor. The suggestions are to be collected and then consulted with the principal of
the school accordingly for the implementation of the feasible ideas (Marshall et al.,
2015).
d. The evaluation of the effectiveness and the suggestions provided by the co-
coordinators, faculty, class-monitor and the principal must be matched and thus
checked that whether it would be feasible to apply those ideas. On the other hand, it
should also be kept in mind that in reducing the expenses, the students should not be
the victims. Further, the opinions that are provided must be environment-friendly
ideas only (Klettner, Clarke & Boersma, 2014).

e. The new targets or the strategies adopted will save the expense of the school. Further,
it should be checked that the new targets are not so costly on the part of the students
and they should not be affected in the course of reducing expenditure. The reduction
in printing will save the environment as well as lower the expense of the school
authority. On the other hand, if the cardboards are dumped separately, it can be
recycled or reused for other activities (Waligo, Clarke & Hawkins, 2013). Further, the
use of LEDs must be checked that it does not affect the eyesight of the student.
f. The contribution of other individuals can be recognized and rewarded by providing
them with awards and recognition after the successful implementation of eco-friendly
ideas.
g. I have learned that there should be specific trails of the task before implementing it in
a full-fledged aspect. This will help to get an idea of the effects of the environmental
friendly task.
