Introduction
In this report, the focus is on one of the business process “New donor process” of a not-
for profit organization “Swinburne Cares Foundation”. The organization is associated with
providing support services for individuals having disabilities. It has been identified that there are
various issues and problems existing in their current business process and implementation of
automation will help them to achieve desired goals.
Benefits, drawbacks, risks and opportunities of automation
Benefits
More focus could be given by the employees on customer service rather than
small tasks.
Multiple systems could be integrated together (Kiedrowicz & Waszkowski 2015).
Tasks could be assigned dynamically.
Drawbacks
Employees may fear losing their jobs thus oppose the implementation of
automation.
The costs associated with investment is high and desired benefit may not be
achieved.
Loss of flexibility as workflows, tasks as well as processes may require
modification.
Risks
Difficulty while integrating various systems as well as tools.
Fear of job loss and cutting out human resources from an organization (Makarova
& Shchenyatsky 2017).
Constant monitoring is required for business process automation.
Opportunities
Improved allocation of workforces.
Reduction in costs and human errors.

Automation as a process improvement option for the case
In the particular case provided on SCF (Swinburne Cares Foundation) it has been found
that automation is an option for process improvement within the organization. The organization
operates with the help of funding from government, donations from individuals as well as
various organizations. The automation will help to achieve the organizational excellence and
improvements in business process.
Scope of automation for solving the case current process issues and problems
Automation could be employed in the organization to resolve the issues and problems
within the existing business process. The improvements could be easily gained through
automating the new donor process. A new donor could be automatically enrolled with
organization without the need to get approval for accessing the services.
Automation plan
The automation will be implemented in organization in various phases through proper
planning and determining the requirements. The requirements will be gathered from stakeholders
and plan for introducing automation will be approved from them to ensure success of the plan.
The deployment of automation will be carried only after approval and a feasibility study will be
carried out in terms of cost and resources.
Assumptions and limitations

new business process model attached in the appendix illustrates the modifications that will be
done in the existing new donor process within the organization. In this report, the illustrations
has also been provided on the benefits, drawbacks along with risks and opportunities of
automation in business process.
