SWOT ANALYSIS AND BILL’S COMPETENCIES 2
ABSTRACT
Loblaw company deals in food selling of food. It has been undertaking a series of growth and
some of the internal and external factors working to their advantage while some are inhibiting
their growth. Billy Beane’s also applied his own self-assessment when selecting the squad for
the baseball game (Peet & Mindell, 2014).
SWOT ANALYSIS OF LOBLAW COMPANY
Loblaws company in its operations has many strengths, opportunities, opportunities and
threats analyzed as follows;
Their source of strength according to Booth.S and Coveney. J (2015) is their large
number of sales amounting to more than $32 billion and this makes them the largest food
distributor in Canada. Their name is highly recognized by the natives all over the country’s
provinces and this gives them a fairly large share of the market in the nation.
Koiwanit.J(2018) observes that their area of weakness is their large stores and a large
number of workers operating under the name of the company reported to be about 136,000. This
makes it very difficult to manage them. A large amount of food produced by the company also
makes it hard to provide fresher foodstuffs to the customers.
Palmer. A (2016) states that their opportunity is to differentiate its products from various
brands. This may help them to serve all segments of customers in the target market effectively.
The stores can also be specialized such that each serves its specialized purpose to the customers.
The threats to the Loblaws company are the competitors. A good example is Walmart
which is rapidly growing in size, opening hundreds of stores every year. It has also mastered the
use of technology to drive costs down. This has reduced the number of customers to Loblaws
company.

SWOT ANALYSIS AND BILL’S COMPETENCIES 3
Billy Beane’s developed the sabermetrics mode of performance analysis which
was mainly based on the following characteristics.
He used the on-base percentage method.. This method according to Brown. D and all
(2017) will help one to estimate the effectivity of a player even before he takes part in a game. In
the long run, it worked as only consistent players would be selected.
Bill Beane also based his focus on the high school young students in his selection (Blay-
Palmer, 2016). Most people underestimated these young upcoming talents but Bill recognized
the potential they had. This worked very well in the competitive strategy as he had built a good
store of the upcoming talent in his squad.
He also focused on the diversity of skills. In baseball, one needs amazing fielders, relief
pitchers and people good at stealing bases. Each player is specialized in his or her area of play
and this made him achieve great results after a combination of all these features working together
as different units of the same team.
Focus on the historical performance of the player.. Some players would be
selected according to their performance in the pre-season games. only those players with good
performance curves form a part of the team.
