INTRODUCTION
Computer system can be considered as important part of human life. It consists of
components some of them are hardware and remaining are software. It can be collaborated with
other devices also for effective results. Such as nuclear station, aerospace and war area. In
current situation, we cannot image something without this. It has covered every field like
hospital, real-time, education, transport and gaming (Aal and et.al., 2014). This report is based
on the IT requirements of SYNERGY. In this, functions of different computers are discussed
along with hardware, software and peripheral devices. Different types of computers are also
compared in the report. On the basis of that, system design specifications are developed in order
to meet client’s requirements. Various maintenance and upgrading of software and hardware are
also highlighted here.
TASK 1
1.1 Role of computer system
Computer system is playing various roles in human life. It has influenced every sector
and made them dependent such as home, business, education, communication and health. Some
of them are stated as below:

Hospital: Computer technology has changed health industry significantly by introducing
effective technologies and implementing the same. Availability of low range of personal
computer management process become easy. Through this, managing patient’s record
along with their medical history has become simple (Brooks, and Taylor, 2016). Along

with this, various patient’s examination and motoring devices are also introduced in order
to evaluate diseases accurately. Due to involvement of IT technology into health and
social care sector, satisfaction level of patients from diagnosis results has increased.
Through this, process has become fast and more number of people are able to get
effective treatment within short period of time. Computer system also helps in hospital
management process by maintaining the updated record of beds, medicines and report.
This is the reason that victims do not face any difficulty. Along with this, it provides
facility of decision-making in order to handle problems in an effective manner.

Real-time system: IT technologies and computer systems are highly essential in real-
time system. Some implementation of techniques are like air traffic control system,
network multimedia and communications. It involves enforcement of both hardware and
software while developing thee system (Cahill and Zuckerberg, 2013). While installing
them into software, it provides deadline of process. Missed deadlines are turned into
disastrous results such as temperature alert at nuclear plant.

Transport: Computer systems are also helpful in transportation system like navigations,
train control system, traffic monitoring, mapping, online booking, whether forecasting
and so on (Cahill and Zuckerberg, 2015). Navigation is considered as the biggest
achievement of IT technology under transportation sector. Navigation systems can be
used in order to identify location of object easily, user move accordingly in order to reach
at the final destination. Traffic monitoring is also an effective approach. While travelling,
users can choose less traffic area through this system. Various online booking websites
are also available in order to book bus, train and aeroplane tickets. User will get
information about the booking status in few seconds without going anywhere (Calik and
et. al., 2014). This is also helpful for weather forecasting as due to which, user can
choose their path accordingly. Navigation and car monitoring is also very effective
invention of computer system through this user is able to track location of vehicles in
order to identify location of courier services.

Gaming: Computer gaming is considered to be effective in order to learn and understand
new concepts and technologies. Through implementing these concepts into games, user is
able to understand them in an easy manner (Chu, ed., 2014). Due to the same, various
puzzles and algorithms are developed into gaming form so that it can be easily
understood by the user. It also increases critical thinking because various graphics make
the understanding clear.

1.2 Hardware, software and peripheral components of computer
Hardware: It is considered as the collection of various internal and external physical
components like monitor, graphics, motherboard, etc. They are used to store software instruction
and run process. They are present in various architectures such as Von Neuman and Harvard.

RAM: Random access memory (RAM) provides access of memory with following any
fixed sequence. In this CPU is able to store information at random location. It provides
facility of accessing many bytes of memory without accessing the previous one. It is
generally used in the printer. It provides faster data access but data get volatile when
system turned off (Cooper, and et. al., 2017). They are broadly divided into two
categories such as DRAM (Dynamic random access memory) and SRAM (Static random
access memory).

Motherboard: It is considered as a sheet that contains various essential elements of
computer system such as CPU, memory as well as various input and output components.
It generally contains non-conductive material sheet (Courtois, 2014). All elements are
placed on the top of sheet. It is available in a printed format and able to manage
communication and power controlling process effectively.

CPU: Central processing units are used to control instructions in computer system. It
performs arithmetic, logical and input/output operations of computer system (Freiberger,
ed., 2014). It consists of various elements such as Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU) which is
used to handle the logical operations. Control Unit (CU) is used to handle input/output
process of computer. It is located on the motherboard.

Graphic card: It is used to produce images that can be visible on monitor. They usually
consider images into dotted format known as pixels. In this, input is provided into binary
number system and again results are provided into zero one format (Gou and Wu, 2014).

Hard drive: It is another form of memory storage in computer system. In this,
information is stored into magnetic form and retrieve into the digital format. It provides

Operating system: They are used to provide interface between hardware and kernel.
Usually, users interact with operating system using commands such as DOS. Windows
operating system is considered to be efficient for personal and business computers. This
is because; it provides features like graphical user interface, virtual memory and
multitasking facilities by using some devices.
Applications: Applications are available for both computers and laptops as well as allow
users to perform particular tasks. They are divided into two categories such as system and
applications software. System software is used to run particular hardware of computer

order to complete the specific task.
Paint: In computer system, paints are considered as the basic elements of graphic
application. In windows, it is available in bitmaps such as 24 bit and 256 colours with
supporting extensions like jpeg, PNG, GIF, etc. MS office: There are various products developed by Microsoft such as word, excel,
access, publisher and power point. Each of them are used to serve different purposes. On
the basis of that, various packages are provided in order to perform tasks. They are
available for windows pc.
Peripheral: They are considered as an auxiliary device that are connected with computers
such as scanner, mouse, keyboard, printer and pen-drive. They are mainly divided into three
categories such as input, output and storage device (Kelly and et. al., 2016). Through this,
devices are able to connect with the core of system. Some of them are like:
Mouse: It is an input device which is connected with personal devices in order to revive
input from user and send it to CPU. It is handled by pointer as well as allow user to select
the item and perform actions through that.
Keyboard: It is another form of input device in which information is provided in the
form of code and commands. Device is arranged with keys containing electrical and
mechanical switching.
Printer: It is a device which is used to provide output to the user. In this, information is
transferred into pages. In order to complete this action, standard size and quality of pages
are required. Generally, this process is considered to be very expensive.
