AI Summary
This report outlines the advantages of using synthetic oil over motor oil in automobiles. Synthetic oil, being distilled and purified, offers better engine protection and longevity compared to conventional motor oil. It withstands higher temperatures, provides better viscosity, and reduces evaporation loss, making it oxidation-resistant and suitable for older engines. The report includes a customer experience illustrating the benefits of switching to synthetic oil for resolving engine heating and breakdown issues. In conclusion, synthetic oil prolongs engine life, improves performance, and is environmentally friendly compared to motor oil. 1ADVANTAGES OF SYNTHETIC OIL OVER MOTOR OIL
Hi, Michael,
ENGL 1301
1/31/2018
Advantage of switching from motor oil to synthetic oil
Motor oil is the refined form of oil that is generally used for lubricating vehicles.
Motorists nowadays prefer synthetic oil over Motor oil as Synthetic oil is not only refined but
also distilled and purified (Anis, et al. 2017). Synthetic oil refers to the lubricant that consists of
artificially made chemical compounds. Motor oil on the other hand refers to mixture of additives
and base oil used for lubricating parts of the engine for reducing friction. The thesis statement of
this report states the Advantages of switching from motor oil to synthetic oil.
Automobile manufacturing organizations insists consumers to use synthetic oil over
motor oil in order to maintain the life span of the product. Synthetic oil has some advantages
over motor oil and is designed to be more effective. Synthetic oil protects the engine from
getting clapped out. Synthetic oil can withstand higher temperatures. Synthetic oil is also useful
in decreasing the temperature of the engine as the synthetic oil provides better viscosity index,
better chemical and shear stability and decrease in evaporation loss and lastly synthetic oil is
resistant to oxidation (Bagheri, et al. 2015). Therefore, synthetic oil helps in prolonging the life
of the car engine.
Motor oil takes a long time to warm up and function in the desired manner whereas
synthetic oil takes comparatively less time to warm up and produce desired work load. This
could lead to the breakdown of the motor oil. However, synthetic oil would not break down
quickly. Moreover, the global acceptance of synthetic oil has increased considerably due to its

ability to withstand extreme weather conditions, serve longer miles and has a greater life span as
there is no recommendation of changing synthetic oil in every 6 months or an year unlike motor
oil. Due to the fact that it is oxidation resistant it acts as a savior for old engine as temperature is
stays under control and does not rise up to a threshold point. The formation of the sludge takes
place due to the breakage of the oil.
Customer experience: A Chervolet Cruze aging 18 years was facing problems like heating of the
engine and breaking down of the engine has been a regular occurrence. Mechanics tried to fix the
problems in many different ways until they found the real problem and suggested Mr. Jones, the
owner of the car to change the oil input and swap synthetic oil with motor oil. Synthetic oil
proved to be the ultimate solution the problem of engine heating and break down.
In conclusion, one can say that using synthetic oil prolongs the engine life of the car and
keeps it in better condition. This oil also benefits the environment, its man-made and
environmental friendly compared to the toxic motor oil.
