Integration of theory and practice 1
System theory is the cohesive conglomeration of the interdependent and inter-related
parts of nature or that of man-made. It has to be understood that this system is delineated by the
spatial boundaries, be it permanent or temporary. This surrounding is influenced by the
environment, structure and the other components. This creates a situation where change in one
component of the system results in the changes of other components as well. The aim of the
system theory is to keep discovering the dynamics of a system. The components in the system
have to adjust with the surrounding and have to come up with certain adaptation.
If the system theory is considered from the sociological perspective, it has to be said that
people resides in particular region of the world and they have to adhere to the rules and
regulations of that particular region. For example, the traffic rules and guidelines of the traffic
signals are not same all over the globe and it depends on the various factors like the topography
of the place or the population of the region. In such cases, the driving licenses are allotted to the
individual only when one passes the driving test. This makes the person eligible to drive in a
particular location but it does not mean that the person will be eligible to drive anywhere in the
world. This in turn, the person has to learn the rules and systems of traffic signal in order to fit
into the rules and system of the place.
The above example was a case of the man-made situation but there can be natural
situations as well that would require an individual to understand the change and act according to
the dynamic nature of the place. Another important and common factor that always causes a
change in the system is the use of language. The human language differs from one region to
another. Even if a person has the ability to express his emotion or query but an usual verbal-
communication is not possible if the people residing in a place is not well aware of the common
language spoken in the region.

The struggle that one has to face when there is change in the particular region is quite
evident and at times people have to face severe consequences if the rules and regulations are not
abided by them properly. The refuges that migrate from one place to another would require the
driving licence of their currently residing region because of the above mentioned reasons. As a
social worker, I would like to get involved in helping these refugees who had migrated from
different part of the world. It is important and humane from the perspective of a social worker to
work for the refugees and help them in every possible way. In fact, getting a driving licence shall
be made easier in case the person already has a license in his home country. As a social worker,
we should make initiative to help such migrants.
