A Systematic Framework for Stakeholder Management in Australian PPPs

This PhD thesis by Sajani Jayasuriya presents a systematic stakeholder management framework for managing Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects in Australia. The research, conducted at RMIT University, explores critical stakeholder management issues and best practices through literature reviews, semi-structured interviews, and surveys. The study identifies key issues, develops a comprehensive framework, and validates it with industry experts. The findings highlight the importance of effective communication and stakeholder engagement, particularly stakeholder analysis, in achieving successful PPP projects. The thesis contributes to the PPP knowledge base theoretically and practically by providing a list of best practices to solve current and emerging issues and a framework for project managers to implement stakeholder management in PPP projects, ultimately acting as an evaluation platform to measure the performance of stakeholder management in PPP projects in Australia. The research confirms the four essential stages of stakeholder management and the eleven components of stakeholder management, which contributes to the existing body of knowledge by creating a full list of components related to stakeholder management specific to PPP projects.
