Introduction
Aiming to understand the various and subtle nuances related to the two major forms of
cricket, this essay will endeavor to shed light on the intrinsic aspects. The essay is based on the
argument that the longer form of cricket or 50 overs cricket from should be replaced by the
shorter from of cricket or 20 overs cricket in ICC Cricket World Cup and in all formats of
International Cricket. The essay will also endeavor to argue that the shorter from of cricket
serves to arrest the attention of the audience and reduces the over-all expenditures on the part of
the organizers.
Discussion
It has to be accepted that the form of T20 cricket assists in capturing the attention of the
audience (Sturm). It is one of the most successful enterprises that has struck the right cords.
Regardless of the presence of the audience at the stadium or before the TV sets, the shorter form
of cricket, that is T20, serves to grasp the attention of the audience in a manner that does not
permit the spectators and the cricket fans to estrange attention to any other aspect. Recent studies
are emblematic of the fact that the need of the hour is to replace T20 cricket with the longer or 50
over cricket. In addition to this, it has to be accepted that even the T20 cricket form serves the
purpose of the 50 over cricket in One Day International Cricket from.
Further, it is seen that the shorter form of cricket or T20 has been able to successfully
generate the required support from the viewers. Data from news article reveals that the T20
cricket form has also been adopted in the County Cricket in United Kingdom (Hoult). It can be
said that the shorter form of Twenty20 cricket caters to the needs of the cricket lovers in a speedy
and effective manner. Data gathered from news articles project that after the inception of the idea

of T20 cricket, the viewer ratings and participation of the spectators have increased in a
substantial manner (Gilhooly). A closer look at the international scenario will reveal that the T20
form of IPL in India has been capturing the attention of the spectators and has also been able to
garner popularity (Kedar and Shankar). T20 cricket needs to replace the longer form of 50 overs
cricket because this form of cricket serves to please the players of cricket because it reduces the
pressure and caters to enhance the performance of the players in all formats (Bracey).
The garnered popularity of Twenty20 cricket rests in the fact that unlike the fifty over
cricket matches, it does not take much time for the match to wrap up with a concrete result.
Further, it can be mentioned that the fifty over cricket should be replaced by the shorter of
cricket because it ushers the idea of less expenditures that is incurred by the organizers as well as
the spectators who view the concrete matches. It has to be accepted that any form of cricket
includes the idea of huge expenditures in order to conduct the games in a proper manner. In the
context of ICC Cricket World Cup, it needs to be accepted that the international tournament
inculcates the aspect of expenditures. The various international tournaments and formats are
chiefly based on the longer form of cricket, that is, fifty over matches. Needless to say, the
longer form of cricket entails the concept of unavoidable expenditures (Pielke). Although T20
World Cup is chiefly based on the shorter from of cricket, it needs to be accepted that the ICC
Cricket World Cup needs to adopt and replace the fifty over cricket with the T20 cricket to
ensure the various advantages. In order to conduct the tournament, ICC is entrusted with the
responsibility of disbursing proper funds for the tournaments. If the longer from of fifty overs is
replaced by the T20 format, the average expenditure incurred can be reduced to a great extent.
ICC also dictates the various forms of international cricket. Accordingly, ICC should
endeavor to replace the longer form of cricket with T20 to usher the greater viewer ratings as

well as the greater participation of spectators at the stadium. In many cases, it is seen that despite
the grandeur of the matches, spectators fail to turn up due to the longer format of the cricket
matches. As against this it is also seen that spectators turn up in the cases of international
matches. In the case of ICC Cricket World Cup, it is crucial to adopt the T20 cricket. It can be
traced that even in international matches of such stature, the spectators tend to lose interest after
the passage of a few hours. However, this is not the case for T20. This form of cricket does not
allow the audience to lose interest at any point of time. Due to the shorter time span of T20, ICC
Cricket World Cup can adopt and replace the longer form of cricket by the shorter form to ensure
the proper participation and performance of the players.
In addition to this, it is also seen that ICC Cricket World should replace the fifty over
cricket with the T20 cricket because the shorter form of cricket assists the players in
concentrating on the game in a better as well as efficient manner.
However, it has to be taken into consideration that the fifty over cricket is a
representative of the original and sanctified version of the original form of cricket. The idea of
replacing the traditional form with the shorter form can disrupt the functioning and hamper the
originality of the cricket.
Conclusion
After analyzing the above-discussed ideas, it can be concluded that the fifty over cricket
should be replaced by the Twenty20 to enable the greater viewership and participation in ICC
Cricket World Cup. It can also be concluded that the shorter form is more popular and effective.
In conclusion, it is said that T20 possesses the capability to replace the longer version.
