Importance of talent management in a company
It is concluded from the viewpoint of Ahammad and et.al, (2018), talent management is the constant
process used by companies for attracting and retaining the employees working in the organisation. The
main aim of talent management is to develop and create a motivated workforce which stays for long term.
The main objective of talent management is to improvise business performance. This is most effective
process which comprises of three components including talent allocation, positive employee experience
and strategic HRM. There are new technologies which are used by companies for managing retention of
employees and making them aware about the company policies.
Strategies of talent management used by Tesco and how they help in success of the organisation
According to the viewpoint of Cappelli and Keller, (2017), There are different strategies used by Tesco
for managing talent within the company. One of its strategy is Yammer chat which is conducted in Tesco
on weekly basis. This is a platform used for sharing views and generating discussions where leaders and
managers engage with their colleagues for a one-hour interaction (How Tesco creates opportunities to
boost employee engagement, 2021). Another strategy is Spark which is a first talk series designed for
colleagues. This helps to share knowledge and increase communication. Third strategy is celebration of

events which drives colleague’s engagement. There are several events celebrated within Tesco and the
main aim of all of these is to enhance employee engagement. This is directly associated with success of
the organisation.
Challenges faced by Tesco while implementing talent management strategies.
As per the views of Gallardo-Gallardo, E., Thunnissen and Scullion (2020), there are lot of challenges
faced by Tesco while implementing talent management strategies. The talented individuals always want to
work for an organisation which is suiting value, attitude and expectation. The main objective is to settle
for a job which is paying a good amount and help to attain job requirements. These are attitude which can
be typical for average employee. There are different working styles and patterns for different
professionals. That is why it is not easy to increase motivation among all employees by providing same
training or workshop.
Research methodology
Research onion is a research methodology given by Saunders in the year 2007. Research onion is known
as the best method which includes different layers. These are helpful for managing the research work
properly and attaining aims and objectives effectively. There are several stages of research onion and these
include Research philosophy, Research approach, Research strategies, Research choice and Research time
horizon.
Research philosophy: - Research philosophy is known as the first layer of research onion. This includes
analysing research philosophy adopted by investigator for completing the research work (Johennesse and
Chou, 2017). basically, there are three types of research philosophy including the following –
Ontology This is associated with research philosophy that consists of various elements including
wellbeing and existence. Different entities are prepared for consulting the research work.
Epistemology This is known as research philosophy refers to those philosophies which is most used by
researcher in their scientific research. It works as the doubt solving factor in any research.
Axiology This is known as the type of research philosophy that is used for managing significance of data
as well as information associated with research work.
In this research, epistemology research philosophy is used for analysing data and interpreting it.
Research approach: - This is known as the research method used for analysing the abilities of
philosophy used above. The different types of research approach used in the research are
mentioned below - defined as research philosophy which provides ability for investigators to

Deductive approach According to this research approach, the positive ways are used for completing the
work.
Inductive approach - In this approach, a new theory is developed by evaluating and analysing different
old theories.
In the present research, deductive approach because aim and objective of this research is analysed through
the primary data collected by people.
Research strategy: - Research strategy is defined as the way that is used by investigators for
managing data and collecting it. Various ways used as research strategy are surveys, experiments
and case studies. In the present research, survey method is used as research strategy.
Research choice: - This is known as the fourth layer of Saunder’s research onion. There are
basically two aspects for research choice including quantitative and qualitative. There are different
methods chosen by the investigator for completing any research which are mentioned below -
Mono method This is known as method that implies a single way to collect information and it is known
as quantitative or qualitative.
Mixed method This is known as a method which enables the investigator for using best method that is
used for evaluating data. This includes mixture of research data collection methods.
Multi method It is known as the research method that includes both quantitative and qualitative data in
the research work.
Research horizon: - This is known as time period for completing research. Basically there are
two types of research horizon - contains the time period for the completion of project. There are
two types of horizon which is given below.
Cross sectional: This is known as the research in which there is need for taking information at a given
time.
Longitudinal: longitudinal is associated with investigator’s method which is used for gathering data and
information over a specific period of time.
Data collection: - This includes process used for collecting information and data for completing
the research work. There are two types of research data collection method including primary and
secondary. Primary data collection method includes collecting data from individuals directly. That
is why it is known as first-hand information. On the other hand, secondary data collection method

Sampling: - Sampling is defined as phenomenon that indicates number of individuals involved in
