Norms of Culture
Tamils are considered to be one of the most hospitable communities and societies in the Indian
Region. The culture of Tamil has a practice of generally being hospitable and accepting guests
into their homes in a friendly manner. The norms of Tamil culture also includes for respecting
the younger and elder sections of the society in an equitable manner (Holidify, 2017). The Tamil
people are brave and have engrossed different practices and norms of bravery into societal
practices. The Chola Dynasty is considered one of the most daring and outrageous Indian
communities.
Customs
The customs of Tamil society denote for wearing a Lungi with a shirt known as Angavastra. The
customs of Tamil society include for wearing saree as a traditional outfit for the women. As a
customary practice, the societies and communities in the Tamil worship Kartikeya as a primary
deity. It is a customary practice in Tamil society to remove their footwear before entering the
temples and devotional areas (Holidify, 2017).
Values
The Tamil culture has different values and religious beliefs that have shaped and supported the
Tamil culture. In the Tamil culture for some of the castes such as Hindus in Tamil marriage
amongst the families and third cousins is practised. This is done so to support for the balance
between the communities and families. A practice of marrying daughters in same families is also
exercised. This practice is considered to be fair and just as it provides for both the families to
treat their daughter in laws equally and this regards for less discrimination (Holidify, 2017).

Beliefs
The Tamil culture includes for various beliefs and superstitions that have developed for the
society and its religious practices. In the Tamil culture birth of a child is considered to be a very
auspicious and religious event. Children are considered as a gift of the god, and thus the practices
of abortion are religiously prohibited in the Tamil Culture. The Tamil culture also believes if a
cow passes the path of a traveller it is the good wishes of the god bestowed on the traveller
which leads to successful travelling and accomplishment of the travel objectives. It is also
believed in the Tamil culture that large payments and sums of amounts are not paid on Fridays
and in the evenings to avoid the loss of profession and business (Holidify, 2017).
How to build awareness
To build increased awareness and knowledge of the Tamil culture one can take the help of the
Tamil movies, music, and different festivals. The Tamil movies are based on various social
causes and practices which depict the Tamil religion and beliefs. The Tamil movies are highly
engrossed with the element of social drama and ancient traditions which educates about the
Tamil culture (Holidify, 2017). The awareness and understating of this culture can also be
developed by learning and deforming the Carnatic music. This form of music is only considered
for the elite classes and is based over the ancient practices, stories, and rural warrior events.
