1. Project Overview
1.1 Introduction
The project is focused on opening of retail store of Target in Canada. The retail store
is famous of its red wine as well as white bulls eye logo, therefore Target is a good choice for
the customers Following are the challenges such as:
I. Lack of customer intelligence of Target Canada’s is obvious in price inconsistency
among American as well as Canadian stores. Most of the Canadians thought that
Target Store is not live with its taglines- Expect More and Pay Less. The Target
Stores within Canada is inferior to stores of US when it is focused to offer low prices
(Willian et al. 2018). Target Store would require to make differences into pricing as
well as promotion for Canadian shoppers.
II. People have lack of knowledge related to the culture of Canadian retail store, due to
which they are not able to understand the market segments of Canadian people. The
company has many competitors like Walmart, Sears, Costco and Giant Tiger (Zhu and
Gao 2019).
III. The system was made to cater the US market of Target Store and therefore it was not
accommodated for Canadian dollar inputs. It is required to purchase other supply
chain software for performing operations in Canada. It created issues for stores which
were performing operations and therefore implementation became slow.
IV. There were glitches into the new supply chain software affected distribution channels
as well as shelf replenishment. It lead to stock outs which can lead to customers to
lose their patience with Target Store in Canada (Chiang 2018).

V. Due to glitch of supply chain system, there was assortment of commodities differed
from US stores. It did not suitable for the Canadian familiar with the Target who felt
that they were provided second class treatment.
1.2 Literature Review
Banica et al. (2018) stated that the project initiation phase in project lifecycle defines
boundaries of the project plan and provides with clarity on objectives, cost, timescale as well
as scope of project planning. It is setting the project baseline towards project scope and
schedule. In this phase, there is defining of project deliverables. Meredith, Mantel and Shafer

approaches used in this project:

sequential designing approach where the progress flaws are downwards near one direction.
Javed, Khan and Tubbassum (2019) argued that it is such an approach where the project is to
be completed on stages and moved towards release to the customers.
Six sigma: It aims to progress over excellence by reduction of quantity of errors in

PRINCE2: Vaníckova (2017) stated that it is an approach which focused on
controlling over entire project planning from its starting to ending. As per this approach, the
project is planned before kick-off and each project stages are structured properly.

organization as it allowed the companies to standardize the project management practices. It
helps the project manager to work with the system across business organization.
PRINCE2 methodology is suitable for this project planning as it is divided the project
into various stages which makes it easier to manage project planning. It makes improvement
over communication among the project team as well as external stakeholders. It provides the
project stakeholders with a chance to make decisions regarding the project work. The
waterfall model is not suitable as no working software is being produced through project
lifecycle. In agile approach, there is required to have more time commitment. There is lack of
project documentation. Under lean method, there is lack of IT system and lack of strategic

focus on project work. SCRUM methodology and Kanban require more experienced persons
to meet with project scope (Steinke, Al-Deen and LaBrie 2018). Less experienced scrum is
ruined development process. PMBOK is stated as framework rather than project management
methodology.
2. Project Objectives
The main objectives of this project are:
To establish an efficient supply chain management system for Target Store
To understand the cultural background of Canadian customers in relation to US
consumers to open an outlet in Canada
To provide training to workers for achieving customer trust, loyalty and customer
demands
3. Performance Measurement / Management of Quality
In order to measure performance of supply chain system, it is required to track stock
movement through testing it. There is required to manage sales growth of Target Store and
taken feedback from the customers through social media surveys. Supply chain metrics
should set to monitor the business values, customer services and cost (Lombart et al. 2018).

Nguyen and Mohamed (2018) stated that the stakeholder analysis is a process to
identify people involved in the project, grouping them as per their impact and influence in the

7. Constraints and Risks
The project constraints are:
At the beginning of project planning, the project sponsor can state their
expectations from business. The project has to complete within 6.7 million
dollar. This target cost will be cost constraint and the project has to complete
under this budget.
If the quality requirements of the project are not meet, then it will affect the
project cost (Zhu and Gao 2019).
If Target Store does not satisfy their customers, then it will stand against the
competition at that time. The customer satisfaction is a project constraint.
The project risks are as follows:
There would be cultural bias on the customers as various customers are from different
cultures and customs.
