Introduction
Tea is an aromatic beverage which originated in Southwest, China where it was used in the form
of a medicinal drink (Phipps, 1981). After water, tea is the widely consumed drink across the
world. Moreover, it is used in a number of ways such as in the medicinal field as it is believed to
enhance longevity, vitality and the general well- being of a person. The results of several studies
provide that tea is very useful in helping with heart diseases, cancer and diabetes and also
performs the function of lowering cholesterol, weight loss and brings mental alertness.
Furthermore, it is considered as a better alternative to tea due to certain reasons. Firstly, tea
possesses less caffeine and secondly the compounds in tea i.e. their flavonoids are good for
reducing the risk of cancer and for the effective functioning of heart. However, the younger
people have stopped drinking tea as it contains too much caffeine and stains their teeth as well
(Khaleeli, 2016). This essay focuses on the fact that tea is beneficial to the health of the human
beings and therefore, relevant knowledge and education should be provided to the users such that
they can be made aware of its uses and impacts.
Tea for Medicinal Purposes
Tea is very useful for medicinal purposes as it plays an effective role in the prevention and
treatment of various chronic diseases. Tea is regarded as an effective way of fighting cancer. It
has powerful antioxidants in it which have the capability of protecting the body of an individual
from cancer. However, it does not mean that tea is the cure of cancer but is simply a beverage
that reduce the risk of its occurrence (Chacko, Thambi, Kuttan & Nishigaki, 2010). The results
of the epidemiologic studies provide that the antioxidants contained in the green tea have proved
to be toxic to the cancer cells and therefore health experts are optimistic regarding their use in
the cancer therapies in the near future. This is done by way of increasing the levels of essential
cellular proteins which creates difficulties in the growth of the cancer cells. Furthermore, tea
performs the task of protecting the body against ultraviolet damage along with boosting the
immune system. Also, tea triggers the natural detox enzymes present in the human body which
assist in the protecting against the formation of cancer. Along with this, tea plays an important
role in boosting the immunity of an individual by supporting the immune system. Through this,
the body gets the power to defend against infections as it contains substances that turns into a
drug for protecting against diseases. A component in tea is found to assist the immune system in

attacking viruses, bacteria, fungi and viruses. The experiments conducted in the laboratories
provide that the blood cells of the immune system of the tea drinkers respond 5 times faster to
germs as compared to the blood cells of the people who drink coffee. In this way, tea boosts the
immunity of humans along with ensuring the prevention of chronic illness.
Tea for Treating Major Health Problems
There are a number of minor individual issues which have the capability of resulting in major
health problems. Tea plays an important role in effectively resolving such problems. Firstly, tea
reduces stress which is one of the major problem being faced by the people across the world on a
large scale. This is due to the fact that drinking tea leads to feelings of relaxation and positive
mood which, in turn, provides that the brain is made more alert and recovers from stress. It is
theanine in green tea which performs the function of reducing the stress in the body (Cooper,
Morré & Morré, 2005). In this way, it has a beneficial effect on the cardiovascular system of an
individual. The anxiety levels of the tea drinking people reduces after having a cup of tea and
makes them feel more relaxed after it. In other words, tea acts as a stress coping mechanism
along with performing the task of affecting the physiology. Tea relieves such stress issues which
are commonly found in the individuals which have the capability of resulting in other mental
health issues and major depression. Moreover, another health benefit offered by tea is its
association with significant weight loss. Tea such as green tea performs the function of
increasing metabolism in the human bodies. Drinking unsweetened tea assists in keeping an
individual hydrated which, in turn, leads to weight loss by way of preventing overeating which is
usually caused by mistaking thirst for hunger. Black and green tea are also helpful in decreasing
the risk of stroke along with coronary heart disease. The people who drink tea are supposed to
have reduced levels of heart disease related death as compared with the people who do not drink
tea. Moreover, tea is regarded as a beverage which also have a positive impact on the human
brain. The cognitive functions are enhanced by the extracts of the tea which particularly impacts
the working memory. This is due to the fact that tea leads to increased connectivity between the
frontal cortex of brain and right superior parietal lobule. This results in the improved
performance of the brain on working memory tasks. Also, the brain is protected from the
vascular damage with the help of the antioxidant and anti- inflammatory potentials contained by
tea leaves. In other words, improvement in the performance of brain can be witnessed as a result
of the amino- acid L- theanine contained in tea. This component follows the process of travelling

purpose of enhancing the focus and concentration power of the individuals. Furthermore, tea acts
as a stimulant having the capability of keeping a person awake without over stimulating them.
Therefore, tea is used in the day to day life of an individual for various purposes. It has the
capability of solving minor problems which can result into bigger problems if not dealt with on
time.

Therefore, it can be concluded that majority of the young population are not fully aware of the
health benefits offered by the consumption of tea. This requires the enhancement of their
knowledge and understanding regarding these benefits offered by tea. Tea plays a beneficial role
in the prevention and treatment of various chronic diseases. It is also an effective way of fighting
cancer. Along with this, tea boosts the immunity of an individual by supporting the immune
system. This is due to the fact that special antioxidant properties are contained in tea which
reduced the risk of major diseases. Also, tea is capable of treating major health related problems.
Firstly, tea reduces stress by providing a feeling of relaxation and positive mood. Secondly, it
assists am individual in losing weight by increasing the metabolism levels. Lastly, improvement
in the performance of brain can be witnessed through the consumption of tea. In other words, tea
is beneficial for the health of an individual. Therefore, it is recommended that tea should be
included as a daily food ingredient for the purpose of improving the health and well- being of the
individuals.
