INTRODUCTION
Teacher plays a significant role in life of people and society. the profession is directly
related to education. It is also known as mother of all profession. the main role of teacher is to
educate young people to achieve success in their life (Bartholomae, 2017). Moreover, in each
profession there are some laws and policies followed. this provide a framework on what
practices is to be followed. besides, it enables in working in ethical way and in professionalism.
The essay will discuss about roles and responsibilities of teacher in teaching profession.
Also, it will be described about types of services provided by them. Moreover, historical
emergence of teacher will be explained. At last policy and laws in teaching will be described and
changes occurring in society.
MAIN BODY
Teacher is responsible for different types of roles. they have to follow various duties in their
profession. however, there are different roles performed by them which is described as: (Duties

Historical emergence of teaching
According to Clarke and Visser, 2019, the teaching profession emerged in US as in early
years it was assumed that those who have completed a certain level of education can become a
teacher. they did not need any preparation for it. However, before 20th century teaching
profession did not enrol in any program. so, also, there was no rule and regulations in it. in 19th
century in there was many transformations that occurred in education. they only learned
numeracy skills. the schools were known as Sunday schools. Moreover, there are some general
education taught as well such as trade, elementary skills, etc. in England free schools were
started by local authority. the setting determined identify of teacher who can be a any person like
a parent, master, leader, etc. In 1830’s the teaching profession was simplified. a new model was
developed was elementary school controlled by local authority and after some time turned into
high school. then teachers were hired on basis of certain criteria that varied in it. For this basis
standard set was completing a particular level of educational qualification for it.
However, with time during middle of century was of summer teacher institute. in this
teacher were provided on the job training and professional development opportunities. Now, a
normal school movement was started to increase demand of teachers.
But on contrary Earp, Lewis and Hainsworth, 2018, stated that teaching colonial times
school was in 1635 and was followed by dame schools but it was only for women. after that
Latin grammar schools were developed for secondary education. in that only boys were taught.

the first private teacher was Confucius in 561 B. C. There was many Greeks who taught children.
However, in 1800’s Horace and Henry developed a school system and increased teacher pay. in
1875 national teacher association was formed in US. the main purpose was to include right for
teachers and make further changes in teaching profession. Thus, Cambridge university was
founded and training in teaching was required in it. In 1900 more men started engaging into
teaching profession. moreover, in 1954 in US integration of public school was done in it. in
today time teaching has become highly advance. Now, many laws and regulations are formed
and it require various degree and education to be qualify for role of teacher.
As elucidated by La Porte, 2020 there are several policy and laws applied in teaching
profession. the first one is right to education which state that education is compulsory and free to
all students. Also, it their fundamental right to get educational services. the academies act 2010
state all primary and special schools to become academy. Besides that, laws such as health and
safety is also followed in this profession. the teacher has to work in ethical way by following
ethics. he or she has to respect ethics and values of students. Moreover, teacher should work in
ethical way as well.
In study done by Murray, 2019, certain changes has occurred in society that related to
teaching. Now, trends emerging in it are use of technology in teaching. the purpose is to teach
youngsters about their talent. teacher motivate them to use talent in getting successful in life.
besides that, society is also impacting on teaching. there are certain principles followed in it. The
main focus in on behaviour of children. they are taught about discipline, ethics, values, etc. and
how they can become a good human being or person. Moreover, with rise in awareness about
education in society, demand of teaching is increasing. Along with it, several changes are
occurring as well in teaching with time. Now, profession requires more discipline and
professionalism as compared to previous times. it has forced people who want to become teacher
to possess high skills and abilities. Furthermore, now there is particular level of qualification
which is needed in teaching. the requirement is high as compared to old times. Now, diploma
and PH. D has become a basic requirement. Alongside, experience is needed by teacher to grow
and develop in this profession. the society is changing continuously as people are preferring this
profession as priority.
In view of Richards and Gaudreault, 2016, there are many successes and downfall of
teaching. the success is it provide an opportunity to create a difference in society. they educate

them and help in developing their career. besides, teacher interact with student continuously so it
helps in improving their learning and reaching to maximum potential. In addition, relation
between student, staff and teacher remain for long time. they also become a role model for
students. teacher motivate student to learn and achieve success in life. Furthermore, there is high
demand for teaching in society. this is because in other profession such as doctor, nursing, etc.
there is high competition but in teaching the competition is less and there is no difficult in getting
a job.
On other hand, Tatum, 2018 said that downfall are pay in teaching profession in low. they
put a lot of efforts in teaching but are not paid for over time, benefits, etc. In addition, teachers
are not appreciated sometimes for their work. Alongside, there is lack of support in this
profession in child education. Also, it is time consuming work as teacher have to spend most
hours in schools. they prepare notes, schedule, etc. that makes it work hectic each day.
Furthermore, it is highly stressful job as they deal with a lot of issues each day. Other than this,
there are not set goals in this. it also requires a lot of paper work as overall notes, plan, schedule,
etc. are written on paper.
CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
In order to solve the issue of lack of team work in teaching profession, there are certain
recommendations that can be followed. they are as follows :
Engaging students- there, the teacher can engage students in decision making. Also, the teacher
can work on many projects with students and others staff as well. thus, it will enable in effective
communication between them. Moreover, ideas of students can be applied in team work.
Team based learning – this approach can be followed by teacher in their profession. it will
allow them to work in team and solving problem. besides that, knowledge and experience of staff
and students can be shared. it will lead to clear understanding of goals and objectives. Alongside,
roles of each staff will be clarified. this will result in well maintaining of skills and profession.
However, it can be summarised that duties and roles of teacher include gain knowledge
about various subject or areas, build student capability to work in team, record and track student
performance, etc. teaching emerged from US in 19th century. besides, there are different laws in
this profession like right to education, etc. success in teaching are create a difference, role model,
high demand, etc. and downfall are is lack of support, time consuming, etc.
