INTRODUCTION
Teaching and Learning are quite effective elements of education and there are various
methods which could be used by individuals to teach, as well as learn (Thadani, Breland and
Dewar, 2015). Therefore in regards to this, the report would be associated with several theories
of teaching and learning which governs ways in which these elements could be implemented
effectively.
THEORIES OF TEACHING AND LEARNING
Theories of Teaching Operant Conditioning:
According to this theory, positive responses from teaching could effectively be gathered by
educators through reinforcements, which are either positive or negative. In context of the former,
some reward could be used for students to ensure that they acquire knowledge in an effective
manner. Moreover, if a negative behaviour is showcased by a student towards acquiring the
knowledge, then the same could be reduced or weakened through negative reinforcements such
as punishments. However, in order to instil positive behaviours within the students, teachers
must focus on positive reinforcements such as praises which would bring positive results within
their teaching (Psaltis, Carretero and Čehajić-Clancy, 2017). Facilitative Theory:
As per this theory, the teacher acts like a facilitator and their role is not just limited towards
conveying knowledge. Moreover, according to this, individuals must maintain healthy
relationships with students for better teaching. Hence, there are various attributes through which
teaching could be provided to students, for instance, realness and transparency, along with
prizing individuals, development of trust, as well as showcasing of empathy towards students
which would mould the teaching practices of individuals in a positive manner and would allow
them towards educating diverse children in a very appropriate way.
Theories of Learning Cognitivism:
This theory was presented by Jean Piaget and according to this the learning within a person is
facilitated through their understanding, as well as physical responses to their own experiences
(Slavin, 2019). Therefore, in order to become an effective learner, individuals must work

towards analysing their experiences in a manner which ensures effective learning. Therefore, the
methods according to this theory could be to learn through lectures, as well as through reading of
text loudly in class, which would allow them to recapitulate the experience and learn more
effectively.
Constructivism:
As per this learning theory, individuals are solely responsible towards creation of their own
learning through development of their own understanding of their surroundings, as well as
outside world (Pritchard, 2017). Moreover, they utilise their knowledge which is usually based
on past experiences as well as link the new information to these elements to form better
conceptual and analytical work frame which later on ensures effective learning through better
construction of the meaning. Moreover, this theory is also contributing towards utilising the time
in an effective manner and pace that would help individuals towards becoming better learners.
CONCLUSION
Thus, theories of teaching and learning are very important to the analysed in order to
determine the best method in which education could be provided, as well as acquired by
individuals.
