Teaching and Learning theories and Child Development
Teaching practice is based on facilitation of knowledge to the students that can help them
to attain continuous knowledge and experience and also explore the psychological knowledge
and skills in the practice (Gay, 2018). Moreover, teaching practice is not only about the materials
but it is also about overall development of the child through the continuous learning. Here, the
essay is based on the analysis of the pedagogy and classroom practice in which my personal
beliefs are discussed which relate to the various learning theories. The essay also discusses the
influence of child development which is ensured through the continuous learning and overall
development of the child.
Education is the key to give knowledge and learning (Ford, Mongon, & Whelam, 2018).
This can be possible through the effective pedagogy and classroom practice whose major focus is
on the learning of the students through the effective classroom strategies which are highly
dependent on the particular subject to be taught in the classroom. Similarly, my beliefs on the
classroom practice is to create an environment that fosters the overall development of learners. I
understand that learning can be possible only through the use of pedagogical approaches that can
be undertaken through the learner-centred pedagogy approach. Moreover, leaner-centred
pedagogy is supported by the learning theories and assumes that learner should play an active
role in the learning process (Fleming, Gibson, & Anderson, 2015). My views on this learning
process is precisely based on the idea that teachers must use the teaching practice in such a way
that students get an effective support from the teachers and also fulfill their educational goals.
Further, effective pedagogy is precisely based on the learning practice which is to be
adopted in such a way that there is social, economic and social development of the child which
contributes to the society. This requires the measurement of learning outcome which can be
possible through the academic achievement of the learners (Fielding, 2016). My personal beliefs
in terms of effective pedagogy is based on the idea that teaching practice is collaborated with the
effective classroom practice and the approaches that can lead to the development of the child.
Also, I think that empowerment and motivation in some way can add to the learning practice and
can be an effective way to make the students focused and achieve the prescribed career goal. I
believe in learning-centred pedagogy in which I am highly supportive for the learning

environment created by this kind of pedagogy. Specifically, classroom practice which is based
on the learning-centred pedagogy on which the teacher focus on the physical environment and
suggest that teachers must be highly adaptive to the school environment (O’Brien & Blue, 2018).
Learning theories elaborate the ways by which the students absorb and take the
knowledge and continue the learning process for the continuous development. Behaviorism is the
learning theory which is based on the idea that the learner responds to the external stimuli which
change the behavior of the learner (Stanford Brown, 2015). It is merely based on the teaching
practice in which the positive reinforcement and repetitive environment. My beliefs regarding
the learning is related with this theory as I think that teaching practice is based on the leaner’s
behavior and should be changed as per the reactions and behavior of the students. Also, I think
the behavior of this teachers is also necessary in which I believe that teachers must possess the
appropriate behavior in order to get the appropriate response from learners.
Further, replacing the dominant learning theory, there is one more theory called
cognitivism theory which focuses on the learning process to be explored as into the mental
process such as thinking, memory and problem solving (Lavoie, et al., 2018). All these practices
are essential for the cognitive development of the child. Hence, learning in this case is aligned
with the previous knowledge and also find consistency for the new knowledge. Similarly, my
views on the teaching practice is that learning is based on the cognitive development which can
be gained through the critical thinking skills and problem-solving techniques which are regarded
as the base for the development of the learner.
Learning theory can also be constructivism which is considered to be social and
situational learning theory. The learners under this theory make the subjective representations of
the learning that they receive and also make interpretation of the objective reality (Pritchard,
2017). This information is subjective in nature as the new information is always linked with the
previous information or knowledge. Moreover, my beliefs relating to this theory is that social
development is crucial for the learner and it can be undertaken through the creation of
understanding that adds to the social experience of the learner. Also, I believe that teaching
practice must add social element in the classroom learning in which the major focus should be on
the collaborations through the chat rooms and various ways to facilitate the communication.

Lastly, there is one more theory called humanistic learning theory that precisely
contributes to the fulfilment of the person’s potential as it has major emphasis on the human
dignity, freedom and potential. This theory is effective for the enhancement of the learning in the
students in order to achieve the overall personal development and the continuous learning of the
students under the classroom practice (Merriam, 2018). My views on the teaching and learning
practice is based on the fact that teachers must effectively work together for the overall
development of the child in which they are given the freedom to undertake the decision and
explore their potential. This can help the students to achieve academic excellence.
Child development refers to the process in which the changes take place from birth to the
adolescence (Moore, 2017). This has a due influence on learning as it facilitates the student to
make overall development and also make the child ready for the future challenges. Specifically,
the teaching practice and learning of the students affect the development of the child in which the
teachers must add certain knowledge and skills that can facilitate in the overall development of
the child and also in the improved wellbeing of the child. It can be noted that genetic background
of the child affects the learning experiences of the students. Good educational experience can
make the students persuade to enhance their abilities. Thus, background of the child can help in
their continuous learning and also helps in improving the teaching practice. At the same time due
to genetic influences affect their ability to grab the things which requires quality interventions
helping kids to understand and do well in the future (Cherry, 2019).
Child development influences the ability of the students and the child to make the better
educational experiences. Moreover, the childhood experiences of the students can affect the
teaching practice as it affects the overall child development and also makes their learning
effective. Further, the enrichment in the childhood experience can make the child responsive and
more attentive which contributes in the learning of the child (Jeong, McCoy, & Fink, 2017).
During the process of child development, the relationship with the peers and the education can
affect the teaching practice and also can affect learning of the child. The ability of the children to
grab the things can affect the teaching practice and can also make effective contribution in the
teaching practice and the learning. Apart from this, culture of the child which is being followed
since the childhood can affect the learning such as social status and the educational background
which has affected the learning practices and the theories.
