PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Answer
Team development is one of the most essential needs for initiation of a project.
Development of an effective project management team ensures that a particular project is
allocated with the efficient human resources. Team development generally follows a planned
strategy which include understanding the competencies of each of the members in a project team,
understanding the capability of each team members, allocation of job to each members according
their knowledge and competencies and outlining the team rules and competencies (Kerzner &
Kerzner, 2017). Although the team structure can change during the implementation of the
project, the initial team formation is mainly based on the competencies of the members.
Furthermore, it becomes essential for the team members to establish a rapport with each other to
ensure project success.
During the team forming, the members may not have a good understanding of the core
competencies of the other members. The project manager has a huge responsibility in the team
formation stage as the project manager needs to promote the competencies of the team members
so that every member gets to familiarize with each other. The promotion of each team member
can be done by discussing the team needs, the role that can be assigned to the team members and
by involving the team members in decision making (Mir & Pinnington, 2014). On basis of the
core competencies and the skills of the team members, the project manager needs to develop a
business case outlining the team roles and responsibilities and operating methods to promote the
team members need.
