I gave a group presentation as a part of my classroom assignment, which helped me to
understand the importance of teamwork and assisted me in identifying my strengths and
weaknesses. A good teamwork ensures that the workload is equally distributed among
all members of the group and all the members work in a coordinated manner in order to
complete a common task. A good team spirit and a healthy bond among the team
members is the foundation for a good teamwork.
Our group gave the presentation on Samsung, which deals with electronic gadgets and
performed the SWOT analysis for the organization. We were a team of 5 members and
each member was assigned a different role. Member 1 was assigned the role of
gathering all the information regarding the organization. Member 2 was asked to make
the PowerPoint presentation, while Member 3 was given the responsibility of editing the
same. Member 4 and I were in charge of giving the presentation. In the process of
being part of this group initiative, I learnt a plenty of things. The very first being the
importance of team work. Working in team provides the platform for free sharing of
ideas and information, which in turn results in significant innovations. I understood that
productive teamwork results in appropriate decision-making and development of
effective problem solving strategies (West, 2012). Moreover, since the members of a
team are to work in a coordinated manner, their productivity increases, as the work
done is the result of amalgamation of skills of every member. Communication skills
improve highly on working within a team. While preparing the group presentation the
kind of bonding and understanding we developed would last for a lifetime. The
presentation was appreciated immensely, which can attributed to the combined hard
work of every member of the team.
Secondly working in a group helped me in identifying my strengths and weaknesses. I
along with Member 4 was given the task of giving the presentation. This is because I
possess good communication and public speaking skills. However, I lacked the patience
to gather information from various resources such as by conducting literature review
studies or by conducting interviews and group discussions. It is important to understand

that good quality work requires a lot of time and effort and an individual must be patient
enough to give that amount of time in order to complete the task successfully.
Moreover, I am not very efficient in making PowerPoint presentations therefore, I have
decided to work on it. Learning to make vivid PowerPoint presentations using all the
tools provided is extremely important in recent times to explain an idea or convey a
concept to the target audience. In order to make the presentation visually attractive I
would also have to learn to make proper use of all the available tools in PowerPoint.
Like any other initiative, participating in-group presentation has its own set of
advantages and disadvantages. The major advantages include an increased
productivity and availability of more resources (Shah, 2013). This is because when the
members work in a coordinated manner their skills are added and knowledge is shared
which enhances productivity. Moreover working in a team brings in innovation and
improves communication. Better communication helps in developing a better
understanding where if one member were not keeping well, the others would get the
task done within the stipulated time. For example when Member 3 was ill, Member 2
took the responsibility of formatting the PowerPoint presentation.
However, certain disadvantages of group presentation were there, which I
experienced. For example, sometimes there was a conflict between some members,
which needs to be resolved at the earliest. In addition, individuality is lost in a few cases
since the work is a result of the combined knowledge and effort of all the members
(Paulus et al., 2012). Moreover, the process of decision-making and problem solving is
extremely time-consuming in case of group initiatives such as a group presentation.
Even the slightest decisions of which font size and font colour to use for the
presentation took time. In addition, most of the time the workload shifts to those who are
more efficient with the work.
Overall, working in a team of five for this group presentation was a helpful learning
experience whereby I learnt the importance of team work, its pros and cons and it
helped me identify my strengths and weaknesses, that would be extremely beneficial for

my future endeavours. In order to become the best version of myself I need to polish my
skills, develop on my strengths and improve on my weaknesses.
