INTRODUCTION
Team work, it is the method or the procedures where many people in an organisation
carry out their work together. The main objective of this is to attain a specific set standards and
goals. At present time this concept in company has become very important and plays a very vital
role in obtaining firm's aims and objectives (Cheung, 2012). With reference to this many writers
and scholars have drawn various theories which very clearly and specifically defines the needs
and value of introducing the team work process in every organisation. Many models and theories
are there following which can lead to a state where en enterprise can grow and develop itself in
competitive market.
In this present report, the two very important theories will be discussed Tuckman's and
Belbin's team work theory. Along with this the detail information about these theories related
with few tasks will be presented in this assignment.
MAIN BODY
Theories and model Drawn by Tuckman and Belbin.
Tuckman's Theory
This is the theory, where the entire process and method of forming a team and their
development stages are critically defined. Tuckman used this ideas with the help of few stages
which is very much required in an organisation to have a very healthy and effective team. There
are basically four stage according to him through which a firm can be able to develop a team
which is very worthwhile for attaining company's goals and objectives. According to Tuckman
and Harper, (2012) the first step starts with the formation of a group or team, this is said to be as
a forming stage. Here the members of team is seeks new opportunities and threats that they will
face while getting into a team, also they will try to understand the aims and standards of the
formed group.
The second stage is storming, where every individual will present and showcase their
personalities and characters in-front of others also in this step there might be situations where
people may get stuck into conflict as their views and opinions does not meet. Still lots of
experiences can be gained by every single person in this storming phase. The third stage is
norming, here all members of team will resolve their conflicts and they'll try to understand their
roles and responsibility that they need to perform as a team members. Every individual will be

having their obligations that they have to perform as to obtain the competitive advantage as a
team and to attain aims and standards as well. The last stage of Tuckman's theory is performing,
here members will be focusing in their tasks and put their efforts to attain their individual goals.

It is recommended that, in a group an effective and appropriate coordination is very must
and it need to be adapted by each and every individual in an organisation. It is also very essential
for every member of a team to communicate and know the roles and responsibilities that they
need to perform (van Dierendonck and Groen, 2011). As of my experience the theories are very
effective but as to adapt in an organisation, it is very essential for the firm to evaluate the market
condition. Tuckman's theory is not as much appropriate as Belbin as in modern scenario. Belbin's
model helps one to the identify the actual role and work that can be performed rather that those
roles that one prefer to carry out. Hence it is suggested to adapt this theory as this is very
efficient ion building up the team appropriately. ugh to understand and takes the decisions in
most effective and appropriate manner with out supervision and guidance of any superior
authority.
As per Ivanova-Stenzel and Kübler, (2011) Tuckman's theory is very effective approach
of building up an efficient team in an organisation. It has been also said for this model that it is
very similar to the clock's ticking as it shows entire life cycle of a team or a group in an
organisation. As the clock moves same to this a team need to work. If employees morale get
down then, it become very necessary to make them motivated, so that they can perform their
work with effectiveness and efficiency.
Belbin's theory
His team development theory states that there is not a particular team, but there are some
people working together and is having their individual goals which is very well know to every
person who is involved in the work that has been selected. He stated that the role and
responsibilities that are allotted to the members are not fix it can be changes as per the
requirement arise. As asserted by Belbin, Erwee and Wiesner, (2012) the roles are divided and
are described as accordance of behaviour, characteristics and traits of the people within a group.
This will help in interacting with one another and especially with those people who are
contributing the highest in the development of a particular team. According to him the team roles

that is assigned to employees or members in a group shows and reflects the behaviour of an
individual person.
There were many critics who were against the thought of Belbin and stated that the
theory is not realistic and can not be scientifically accepted. As per Kaplan and et. al., (2011)
this model is not suitable at time of recruiting the employees or new people into the team. Many
argued and said that this theory can be very effective in an organisation if it is executed in proper
and appropriate manner. This will lead in attaining group goals and standards. This is very
effective approach as if it is utilised in proper manner, this will assist team members to know all
their duties, role and responsibilities.
Reflection on group
In a team it is very essential to have certain things that is supporting the firm to attain the
group goals. In the group I am indulged, there are various roles, and duties that every team
member ned to perform so that the ultimate objectives can be able to obtain. According to
Belbin, (2012) The methods and steps that are indulged in working in an team in coordinative
and collaborative manner is said to be as team work. As per the definition we have also adapted
this and performed the operations and activities according to the requirements. As when we used
Belbin's theory we found that there is in work efficiency. The members are trying to
communicate through mails and fax rather that performing their tasks individually. With this all
the people were making many such mistakes that are not justified big errors were made. It is
suggested by Meredith Belbin, (2011) that the team members should be interacting with each
and in appropriate manner and will also have to perform their individual tasks so that being one
the personal goals can obtained and within a group the team objectives can be able to achieved.
Tuckman theory is also very effective approach to develop an efficient team in an
organisation but Mueller, (2012) says that, in present time, company is not able to adapt this
theory for long term purpose as because this is not suitable for the modern era. In this theory the
member are well defined with their roles and responsibilities, but in current time it has become a
diverse state where multitasking people are required in every organisation. Beyond defined roles
many more activities also need to be performed by teams members so that more efficiency can
be attained by a team. According to Payne, (2015) this model was introduced at that time when
the team work is limited and work load was not much, a certain amount of tasks has to be

performed, therefore it is only suitable for the groups which is having less people to carry out the
work and all their roles and duties are specified.
Individual role
My role in the group is to planner as because if was having a very good knowledge and
skill to make strategies, but at the same time I found that there is no one who is bothering about
me and my talents, this made me quite neglected and I didn't find myself best suitable for this
particular job. I was then not able to perform well in planning an tried to run away from the work
instead of performing. Then after I planned to switch my work and concentrated to make others
motivated to perform the tasks in appropriate and desirable manner so that a team can
accomplish its objectives.
With the help of this theory I could be able to know about the aspects and areas where I
ca perform in more better manner rather than doing planning work which was not accepted by
others and which many times lead to a conflict states. Earlier I used to leave my work till late to
do other works,, but after this change I can perform more efficient manner.
Recommendation
It is recommended that, in a group an effective and appropriate coordination is very must
and it need to be adapted by each and every individual in an organisation. It is also very essential
for every member of a team to communicate and know the roles and responsibilities that they

helped in knowing how on can get into right path and what all more work can be performed by
