SELF-REFLECTION
The assignment is related to how I was able to work as a team member while preparing a
presentation in a group. We were asked to prepare a presentation on a topic of key management
functions. In order to do this, we chose three key areas of management which are, Human
resource,Marketing Finance
The part I chose in presentation for myself is marketing. In order to perform my task in
an effective manner, I got involved in research of a company so that I can collect adequate data
about it. I order to put together all the relevant information, I made sure that the research or data
collected by me is accurate. To ensure its accuracy, I cross checked the data which gave
authenticity to the final report prepared by us. Other strategy that was used by us to ensure the
reliability is conducting interviews of the staff member who are indulged in marketing so that
their strategy for advertising and marketing can be analysed. It helped me to develop my
communication skills as I had to talk with top level management of the company. Since, it was a
team task, we used to organise our team meeting every 3rd day of the week in order to make sure
that the process followed by other team members is correct which can help in reaching to the
desired conclusion. A set task was given to each team member that was required to be achieved
by the individual in a week time. I missed few initial meetings of the team which negatively
impacted the process of presentation for me. However, I tried to cope up with it by spending
extra time on the given topic. I was able to bring myself on the role which I missed earlier in
around a week. Main issue that was related to the work distribution was that there are people
who may not be good at finance or may require extra time to complete the activity in an effective
manner (De Grez, Valcke and Roozen, 2012). Hence, comparing the output of finance with that
of marketing is not appropriate.
Some of the important facts were missed by us which were then advised by our tutor.
Examining those facts and taking them into consideration while preparing the project helped us
to give an effective output (Van Emden and Becker, 2016). There were few times when the team
was not able to reach to a specific conclusion which instigated a small fight between the team
members as well. However, by communicating with each other and reaching to a unison
decisions, helped the teammates to resolve the matter (Li and Lam, 2013). Further, the visuals
that were used by us in the whole presentation were less and not much attractive. There were
certain spelling mistakes present in slides because the content was not proof read in the end.

In the beginning of presentation, the energy was lacking in team members. However, a
motivational lecture from our professor helped us to rejuvenate ourselves and work towards the
goal. While giving our presentation, we ran over time which led us to get negative points. Hence,
this was the negative point for presentation work. We should have divided the time for each slide
that could helped us to complete the presentation within given time frame. Further, issues were
faced by the team related to communication skills. Some of the members were not having
adequate communication skills which reduced effectiveness of the presentation. Moreover, out of
nervousness, few of the important points were not explained properly further some were also
missed. It led to negative points and we were able to secure average marks in our team
presentation. Hence, some of the important points that could have been included by our team for
effective presentation are Division of time in appropriate manner for which time division based
on slides can be made. It will help in not running out of time during the next presentation.
Distribution of work based upon the complexity so that project can be completed in effective
manner (Smirnova and Nuzha, 2013). Further, Planning the content and visuals in such a manner
that it becomes eye catchy to the listeners. Planning the points to be discussed during the
presentation in advance so that team mates do not fumble while presenting their slides. After
preparing the presentation, it is important to proof read the content in order to avoid any writing
errors, grammatical and spelling mistakes (Medio, 2012).
The above mentioned strategy will help the team mates to deliver better presentation next
time. Coping up with the issues in team helps in delivering the best to audience. Overall, it was a
positive experience for the team.
