INTRODUCTION
In every single organisation administration to run business in a successful manner is
essential (Malfertheiner and et.al., 2012). I have located that a company can face many
sort of issues that are related to management which can hamper situations by which firm faces
losses. In this context, a multinational company which has been taken under this assignment is
BBC. Being a manager, I found that while managing staff members, recruiting candidates,
evaluating performances of employees and resolving issues are some type of issues that can
be faced by a company. First theme or situation which is being taken under this report is team
management. I realised that, managing team plays a vital role in hitting desired targets of firm
with respect to make profit at its maximum level. Here, assessment will also put light on some
sub themes of team management like types of team working which helps in different situations,
Tuckman’s Teamwork Theory and issues which can be faced by a squad in decision making
process. I have analysed that if a team is effective in nature, it may be possible that it may
create favourable conditions at marketplace for BBC.
In the second phase, recruitment and selection process has been chosen by me as
theme and its issues. It is better for me to understand this department in a better way so that
problems can be solved in a proper manner. I found that human resource department of BBC
has faced many difficulties that are related at the time of enlisting new candidates. It is important
because if BBC will recruit talented candidates, it will help firm to grab desired outcomes in an
effective manner. I also examined that suggestions given by men in company can help in many
ways like favourable policies can be formed by me for them and for other staff members etc.
Three sub themes that I have selected under this phase are types of recruitment, Multi-Tier
Recruitment Model and HR Recruitment Issues. In modern era, I found that market is dynamic
in nature so to sustain, it becomes important for every company to make alterations according
to needs so that productivity and profitability can get enhanced in a proper manner.
MANAGEMENT THEME 1
According to Calkins and et. al., (2012), team management is mandatory for every
single firm in order to achieve goals and objectives. Working as a manager in BBC, I realised
that every single team member should have proper knowledge of operations and aims of
company. By this only, issues can be resolved in better ways. Away from this, I saw that if
squad members are not qualified enough, then it may be possible that they may not able to
complete given task in limited time frame. Moreover, proper communication in between team
members should be there as it may give many advantages at workstation. Along with this, I
1

have made some points by myself which may help in better understanding issues that can be
faced by team while working at workplace and these are as follows:
Lack of team individuality: In BBC, while working for a given task as a team member, I
realised that it is essential to give responsibility to every individual of squad while looking at their
skills and capabilities.
Difficulty making decisions: While working in a team, my suggestions and others may
create issues while making determinations. Apart from this, increase in conflicts in between
squad members can also be seen under this phase.
Poor communication: I also located that some team mates stay quite in meetings and
in seminars when executives want suggestions from them. Thus, it is important for every single
team member to take part in activities.
Sub Theme 1
Different types of teams at workstation and their issues:
According to Camm and et.al., (2012), management of a firm keeps on forming
different sorts of teams according to the situation. Squads in BBC have set some standards that
help in resolving issues in an appropriate manner. I located that there are ample number of
squads that can consist with in a workplace which managers makes as per requirements. In
modern era, a company faces problems while running business at workplace. But sometimes, at
working areas I evaluated that the team which has been made in order to resolve the issue may
hamper situations. Many suggestions can come in front of team people which may put in
confusion in decision making process. A team should become more effective when its members
will share a good bond with each other (Vestbo and et. al., 2013). It becomes vital in modern
era for every single organisation to have effective team members. Proper environment given to
individuals of team member as per his/her needs can help them in achieving their own goals
and objectives. With the help of this, a firm can easily make profit at its maximum level and
along with this, competition can also be given to competitors if a company is achieving its aims
in specific time frame. In BBC, it has been found that working in a team has many advantages
but there is ample number of disadvantages as well.
I learnt from this scenario that in organisational life, it is normal that teams can face
difficulties while going through a plan to achieve desired goal. Developing an effective squad
requires removal of different and ample number of barriers that can come across. Conflicts in
between squad can delay the process. Companies should create favourable conditions for their
team members who are rapidly achieving aims. Managers should know about their team mates.

Their weaknesses and strong points help team leaders to make training and development
programmes.
Along with this, I realised that learning on a continuous way may aid me in
understanding about teams. By this, I can make a team better that can hit targets in a shorter
period of time.
Some types of teams in an organisation are mentioned beneath:
Project teams: This type of squad can be made by me or by other managers of BBC in
order to achieve a specific goal. This team works together and have different responsibilities but
work for same task so that issues can get resolved in effective and efficient manner. I can
assign duties to individuals of a team. But, I saw that information which has been gathered by
mates may raise conflicts in making a proper plan by which project completion may take more
time than expected.
Functional teams: A team which is permanent at workplace of BBC can be known as
functional team. I located that, problems can be faced by a team when they keep on working
with same set of mind. Alterations are necessary while implementing, evaluating and achieving
set goals. Thus, this can be a major issue which I have seen than can put permanent team in
trouble. Away from this, as a manager, I found that in team members as well changes are
necessary. Here, I have to remove less productive individual then with talented ones. Along with
this, a team mate cannot make changes by his own if it is needed, first he/she have to take
permission from the manager than only any sort alterations can be made.
Contract teams: It has been examined by me that, this type of team is said to be
specialised in their work which can be utilised by a company from outside world. As a manager,
I can say that BBC takes help from this squad in order to hit targets in various effective ways.
Squad achieve objective of organisation and can take monitory from them in exchange. I faced
some issue while taking this team under is, team members who are working in BBC can get
demotivated.
Self-managed teams: This type of squad is not much effective when it comes to resolve
issues in a limited frame. Under this, there is no boss who leads other team members and set
their responsibilities of their own. I found that this type of squad put less efforts in achieving a
set goal and because of this reason only it can take much time than any other sort of team.
Virtual teams: BBC has many offices at different areas thus, it has been examined that
situations comes up where executives build this type team so that problem can be resolved in
short period of time. Away from this, squad members work with other individuals of team by
various collaborating tools and techniques as they are from different locations. I studied that
3

these individuals may have different cultures and their thinking do not match which may create
problems while formulating a plan in order to achieve a specific goal.
Sub Theme 2
Issues in team and application of Tuckman’s Teamwork Theory to resolve them:
In 1965, Bruce Tuckman proposed a theory in order to better understand and develop a
team in order to make more effective at workplace. It has been examined by me that there are
ample number of problems which can be faced by a team member while working at workstation.
Some of issues are: Difficulty making decisions, Poor communication, Inability to resolve
conflicts, Lack of participation, Lack of creativity, Group-think, Ineffective leadership and etc.,
should be resolved in appropriate manner of squad. Thus, it is important for me to understand it
in an appropriate manner so that issues can be resolved in a limited time span by which squad
become more effective and motivated at workplace. I examined that, firms may lose its position
at marketplace if a team would not help them in hitting company’s targets in a regular manner.
Here, in developing a team can remove or reduce difficulties in many ways. Tuckman's theories
have different stages which are: forming, storming, norming and performing are parts of model
that help a group in growing or developing. An ineffective squad can become much effective
and efficient by using this approach.Forming: This is the first phase where, individuals meet
with other members and does interactions which help them in becoming more familiar (Yancy
and et.al., 2013). I clearly understood under this phase where managers and team leaders to
give information about aims which they are going to attain in upcoming future. Away from this,
meetings, seminars are the places where details of set objective can be discussed. I also found
that, management can take suggestions from them which may help in attaining objective in
short period of time than expected.Storming: This stage is much effective which can resolve
issues that team members have with each other. I evaluated that, while making a proper plan of
objective may raise conflicts but it also brings up suggestions, their thoughts and ideas. Away
from this, working styles a team member can influence others by which they become more
productive at workplace. If I take myself as a leader of a team in this, then it is necessary for me
to know about every single person’s weaknesses and their capabilities. By this only, I can give
them responsibilities or duties. As failure into this may put me in trouble because I have to give
justifications to my supervisors then.Norming: Competition in between two individual brings
motivation among others team mates. Under this phase, I saw that issues can be raised in
different areas at this stage. Squad members neglect complexities when they have to talk to
other people just because they can disturb them. I also found that, team under this phase stays
aware about competitive level and at the same time they have to follow same structure in order
4
Document Page
to achieve a common goal.Performing: This stage can be stated as the last one where team
members do not require any sort of suggestions from others like supervisors and team mates.
Individual of a squad becomes much knowledgeable where he/she can resolve issue by his/her
own. I found that, being a focused person of a squad can give ideas to others so that they
become more effective in nature at workplace.
Sub Theme 3
Effective Team Decision Making Process so that issues can be resolved:
Problems which are being faced by management of BBC when its teams are not
effective in nature at workstation. A person belonging to a specific group of people involved in
attempting to achieve a common goal. Decisions may create favourable or unfavourable
conditions for BBC at marketplace. Productivity can also be raised with the help of making
positive determinations. Management should keep on making alterations in teams or replace
squad members if they are doing work with same mind set. Away from this, I saw that
administration of BBC adapts changes which are related to technologies and they do these
modifications in rapid manner. Individuals may face issues and it can also raise fear of losing
their jobs. Effective team can go through simple and systematic steps in order to resolve issues
and these are as follows: Recognize the problem: An effective team looks into various aspects through which
they can better understand about problems or issues that they are facing at workstation
(Montalescot and et.al., 2013). I have examined that this is the first phase in which
manager can make plan according to the requirement that can help in resolving conflicts. Define the problem: Under this phase, squad brings out the problem in their front.
Away from this, things can come at this part when individuals become aware about
problems if they see it in a regular manner. I found at this stage that if squad will
understand the problem to its core it may be possible that they may bring up resolutions
at this time only. Gather information: In this part, team leader gives opportunity to every single individual
of a squad so that they can collect detailed information on their own behalf. Develop Alternative Solutions: Being as a manager, I found that it is necessary for me
and for other team members to bring solutions by their own which gives opportunities to
come up with ample number of results. This can be done through using gathered
information in appropriate manner. Away from this, various tools and techniques can be
used by squad members while coming to a point where they can get satisfied in that
desired goals can get attain in fixed time frame.

Select the BEST alternative: This is the phase where, me or any other manager can
look into various outcomes and select the best one in order to meet all the requirements
in a specific time of period. Away from this, I realised that conflicts can get raise while
selecting the best sort of alternative. Squad members who have given different
suggestions, it may be possible that they may start a debate in context of their own
outcomes which has been given by them. Implement the best alternative: Under this stage, senior team leader goes through
recommendations which have been given by their squad members. Apart from this,
meeting can be conducted by superior in which team mates will continuously look
forward where suggestions can be taken from them.
Evaluate the outcome: This is the last phase, where I found that benefits can be gained
by management in order meet their final goal. It becomes vital for team leader under this
phase where continuous monitoring can be done from time to time.
MANAGEMENT THEME 2
According to Dellinger and et.al., (2013), recruitment is a process of hiring and
selecting suitable candidate for vacant position. Here for understanding, I have given below
various aspects of recruitments such as types of recruitment, multi-tier recruitment model and
recruitment issues. By these segments, understandings of recruitment will be completed. In
situations, multiple new jobs are created and recruited for the first time or vacancies are there or
the nature in such documents as job descriptions and job specifications. It has been analysed by
me that there are ample number of issues that can be faced by BBC. Therefore, it is necessary
for Human Resource Management to keep on making looking at various aspects and select the
best candidate from many applicants. I saw that mostly, BBC selects the employees from
outside world and this also depends on administration as per their needs. Away from this, one of
the major problem that can be faced by management is that recruiters needs time to make
applicants know about process or work that BBC is doing. When I got recruited in BBC, trainers
took almost 2 months to give me overview of their production process. Along with this, training
sessions are time consuming and it is expensive as well. I located that new employees which
has been selected, if they don't learn anything in proper manner, then it may be possible that
losses can be seen.

Types of recruitment:

As per given by Inzucchi and et.al., (2012), selections can be done through various
ways. It is necessary for administration to locate the best and suitable recruiting style which can
help in selecting the best candidates. Recruiting the best applicant at correct time may give
many opportunities to any company to meet its goals and objectives in an efficient manner.
Away from this, new employees are the face of organisation as they create its image in front of
society. Candidates’ experiences which they have shared by them had influenced others to
work with companies. BBC should also locate at different aspects so that they do not hire less
qualified members. Along with this, I realised that, locating best time of doing recruitment is also
essential so that favourable condition can be made of BBC in upcoming future. After recruiting
person, it is necessary to measure the performance of his/her on a regular basis so that
effective decisions can be made. Some of software are also there that can be used by HR
department in pulling out the best member in a specific time of period from ample number of
members. In order to, reduce the workload from HR department, portals can be used that may
give opportunity to employees through which they can resolve small issues that they are facing.
Apart from this, taking the best approach in use can help firm in getting candidates right on time.
Being a manager, it is essential for me to understand different person's personalities so that I
can take initiatives which are related to selecting him. Recruitment can also refer to processes
involved in choosing individuals for unpaid positions, such as voluntary roles or unpaid trainee
roles. If the person is much interesting and full of knowledge I can ask questions apart from
questionnaire.
While working as a manager, I have observed two ways of recruitment in BBC; one is
internal and another is external. I have discussed below each type with context to BBC:
Internal recruitment: As per company's norms, using internal recruitment, we recruit
candidates from internal environment of company. I have learnt that there are ample number of
problems which is is related to this context. Promoting persons who are already working in firm
will work with same sort of mind. Being as a manager, it is important for me to locate or evaluate
current position of company in order to take decision which is related to promoting an employee
or to recruit whole new person. I learnt that, internal recruiting process is said to be less
effective in nature than external ones. So that, management keeps on locating areas through
which hitting or achieving goals and aims in effective manner. I also realised that, existing
workforce works with same ideas but this process is also needs less consumption of cost than
any other. Along with this, person will not need any sort of training sessions. Issue that I found
which can put impact on other staff members is they will get demotivated. Along with this,
conflicts can get also raised in between employees and employer.

This method include following practices: Promotion: When existing employees of company gets promoted to higher level or
position is known as promotion (Duffy, 2013). Basically, to fulfil top management, we
require experienced employees which I appoint at the time of need. This requires full
evaluation and control of every individual's activities and performances. Giving
opportunity to individual who is effective in nature at workstation to handle an upper post
can be stated as promotion. Transfer: When we re-locate an employee to other geographic location is known as
transfer. Being MNC, my company requires relevant and authentic data which can be
from any corner of the world. Therefore, I transfer employees on regular basis to fulfil
requirements of recruitment. BBC is a multinational firm which has many offices in all
over world. It has been located my be that, tasks do comes up where whole team or an
individual have to relocate so that goals can get achieved right on time.
Former employees for part time: For of the efficient practice of internal recruitment
when former employees of the company are asked to volunteer for work as part time.
This is cost saving technique because it provides employees who are well aware of my
company's doings and service associated with it. I examined that in today's scenario,
mostly firms have adapted this type of technique because it is much effective and it also
do not cost much to them.
External recruitment: In this method, candidates are appointed using networks, job portals and
references .This type of recruitment is said to be the famous method that is being used by most
of companies in current market. It has been found that management keep on locating various
aspects through which they can select the best candidate from outside world. Away that this,
recruiter gets opportunity which is related to selecting the best one out of ample number of
candidates. Mostly, companies give advertisements on different areas and there are various
modes which can be used by me or by any other manager. Media can be online or offline. At
current marketplace, organisations are using online media to grab most number of people who
are willing to work with them. This process do helps firms to keep firms from heavy cost
consumption. Offline media can cost much to a corporation than any other media.
Away from this. There are other agencies as well which aid firms to gather best suitable
candidates from outside world. This firms are mostly, consultancy companies that help other
corporations in many ways. I realised that, hitting targets right on time keep up the sustainability
at marketplace. To do this, it is essential for BBC to have ample number of positive behaviour
candidates who are also talented in nature.

I have discussed below every practice as per my knowledge: Advertisements: Using advertisement in our recruitment procedure, I have found that it
covers wide area of market as majority of applicants get information of vacancies
through this procedure. We cast our advertisement using media such as newspapers,
social sites and internet. Agencies: We have tie-ups with many professional agencies that serve as external
source of recruitment. They provide manpower as per our needs because they are well
aware of individuals that are looking for employment. Educational institutes: There are certain professional institutions that provide fresh
graduates for recruitment. It is also called campus placement. We have connections with
few of these institutes too. Job portals: This is the latest method of recruitment that enables website to deliver
manpower on certain demands.
Recommendations: Majority of people have experience in certain areas and as an act
of goodwill, they recommend candidates that possess skills which are suitable for certain
vacancy. Major drawback of this approach is that at time of recruitment, we totally rely
upon recommendations which later on prove to be incompetent.
Being international brand in news service, BBC claims to deliver authentic and valuable
information to viewers. For this, we require competent workforce that have experience in such
field. By using reliable sources and methods of recruitment, I have observed that company
appoint employees that possess effective skills and capabilities. Thus delivering adequate
employees to company's environment.
Sub theme 2Multi-Tier Recruitment Model:
BBC is said to be one of the biggest company of United Kingdom. I saw that, most of
organisations in today's world which are big in nature take this Multi-tier recruitment model while
selecting and recruiting candidates from outside world. With the help of this, recruitment process
becomes more effective of firms. Management distributes work to different executives in order
achieve their targets that are related to selecting new employees for BBC. This distribution has
been by administration of BBC and after that, these sub groups work together so that
achievements can be made in an appropriate manner.
HR department of BBC uses this approach in order to achieve goals and objectives in
effective and efficient way. Away from this, I found that, issues can be resolved that are related
to human resources. Cost effective decisions can be made by HR manager. By this model,
9
Document Page
employers of BBC can increase satisfaction level while delivering services to them in most
effectual ways.
Challenges which can be faced HR department while taking multi-tier recruitment model
at BBC:
I learnt from following problems that are being faced by BBC while recruiting new
candidates that HR departments schedules becomes hectic as they have to examine quality of
new candidates. Thus, to reduce work from HR managers companies develop effective HR
portals. In initial years, human resource management had to resolve issues of employees in
BBC by their own which hampered the process of delivering quality services to staff members.
From last few years, initiatives has been taken by HR administrations that they build up
websites or portals which can be used by employees and this process can be stated as self-
service. I examined that, HR managers stay busy a lot because they have to resolve issues of
every single employee. But, this action of resolving problems of individuals takes much time.
Difficulties can get can reduce to minimum level by using HR portals where, staff members can
easily give suggestions, show their interest or share their thoughts with them with their
supervisors.
HR manager should be friendly in nature with their employees (Jauch and et.al.,
2013). Portal with single phased may do not give opportunity to staff members through which
they can give suggestions when it is needed. I also saw that a portal should be much effective
and full of standards so that workers can communicate with employers. I should locate all the
aspects in order to ease the process of using portal so that workers do not give call to their
seniors for every single which that can be resolved by their own.
I have given some example of three tiers and these are mentioned beneath:
Tier 1: Contact/ Help desk – This is the first phase where applicants take suggestion
from reception where he/she can take information about working of BBC (Malfertheiner and
et.al., 2012).
Tier 2: Administration – This can be stated as the stage where proper administration is
the major concern of HR manager.
Tier 3 - Process – Under this tier, management is being done of staff members and
applicants’ requests can be fulfilled in an appropriate time of period.
Thus, it can be summarised that in big companies this model plays a vital role when it
comes to achieve goals in an effective and efficient manner. Away from this, I saw that BBC's
recruitment and selection has become more effective in nature in all over world. Failure into this
may create issues for BBC.

Sub theme 3
HR Recruitment Issues and initiatives to resolve them:
If recruiting talented people was an easy undertaking, then it may be possible that there
would be no HR department in companies. Thus, human resource section of BBC plays an
essential role where, they have many responsibilities like solving problems of employees, giving
training to staff members, recruiting people from outside world and etc. Their main aim is to
make a healthy environment for employees at workstation so that they can improve their
production. I found that, most of problems which can put impact on recruiting process are:
economic conditions, competence level, commitments of HR managers (recruiters) and
attraction of outside people towards BBC.
In this context some issues are given below:
Hiring Manager Issues: BBC has found that administration of HR managers who are
recruiters in nature faces ample number of problems at workplace. I have located some
problems like, job description should be easy to understand so that applicants can directly
understand about designation which BBC is offering, good questionnaire in order to pull out
more personal information of applicants. To resolve this issue, I have learnt that an HR manager
who is specialised in recruiting talented people from outside world.
Quality of Candidates: As it has been located that marketplace is dynamic in nature
thus, new tools and techniques can come in front of BBC in rapid manner (Vestbo and et.al.,
2013). Therefore, it has been always an issue to select candidates who have proper knowledge
of current trends at market. I have also located that high demand is there of people who are
much qualified and have some specialisation in a particular sector. The issue which I have
examined that can come across in this factor are time consuming, it needs a big cost prices and
so on. I saw that, a manager keeps on asking questions from applicant who has already much
qualified in order to select the best one. Along with this, best or suitable candidates can be filled
by human resource administration by continuous removing of issues that can hamper process.
Issues related to job Incentives: In today's world, it is effective for human resource
administration to keep on bringing up different policies for employees which are related to
compensating. I realised that, BBC should bring up policy in order to build up interest of their
staff members. Along with this, while recruiting new candidates they check for policies and rules
which are employees are already following. Different effective decisions of HR management can
often create favourable conditions for new candidates. With the help of this, benefits can be
gained by recruited people which make firms able to hit targets for a longer period of time.

Employee Retention: Rules and regulations which have been formed by government of
United Kingdom should be followed by BBC on a regular basis. With the help of this,
management keeps on making alterations in policies from time to time. Away from this, I found
that retentions also plays vital role just like recruitment. From above debate, I have learnt that
locating problems that are being faced by employees is necessary for BBC. After that, effective
decisions that are being made by HR managers can motivate staff members which will help
them to make good relations with workers. Loyalty level can go up of employees if BBC is
fulfilling all the requirements of them. Along with this, I found that administration should consider
every single culture of people while developing policies. If employees don't see any future in the
company they will leave it whenever they will get another best offer. I also located that, HR
department should keep on looking at given production of staff member which will help them in
doing screening.
While viewing at productions which has been given by employees may help BBC on
locating that employee is going to stay with the company for a long time or not (Yancy and et.
al., 2013). Away from this, I examined that proper screening and for longer instance gives
opportunities to make alterations for workers who are already working with BBC. This can aid
them in locating areas through which they can stop workers who are willing to switch to another
organisation.
CONCLUSION
From above mentioned report, it has been concluded that issues can be resolved by
managing department of a company by taking effective decisions. With the help of this,
administration can create favourable conditions and make healthy working environment for their
employees. Along with this, team will be more effective if conflicts will be less in between team
mates. Every single firm has their own aims and objectives and to achieve them, they build
talented teams. While formulating a team, management should locate different areas which can
put bad impact on squad. Away from this, healthy employee relations are must for an
organisation to have in between its workers. By this only, team mates will share a good bond
and will look forward to hit their own targets in an efficient manner. Suitable suggestions can be
given by a team mate to others who have understood the task in an appropriate manner. A big
company keeps on building up different types of teams. Along with this, there are ample
numbers of theories of developing team that can be used by firms which can resolve issues in
an appropriate time period. The best suitable theory is Tuckman’s teamwork which can help in
developing it in an appropriate manner.
12

On the other hand, recruiting process of a company should also be effective which helps
firm in recruiting people who are talented and much qualified. Selectors should be properly
skilled in order to evaluate qualities, interpersonal behaviour, qualifications and so on of
applicants at workplace. Along with this, it is mandatory for administration to understand current
situation so that executives can see if promotion of employee will be more effective or recruiting
new one from outside world. Apart from this, internal and external approach can be used by a
company in order to meet their requirements or to fill blank seats. Talented candidates can bring
new things and innovations at workplace which can aid a firm to increase its brand image and
goodwill at marketplace. Away from this, multi-tier model can be used by administration of big
companies where they distribute different activities to every single individual of HR department.
But they work for same thing and that is hitting target in more effective and efficient way.
Management of a company should resolve all the issues in a shorter period of time
which can aid them in giving competition to their rivals. With the help of this, profit and
productivity of organisation can be enhanced.
RECOMMENDATIONS
To make a healthy environment, companies should solve problems in shorter period of
time (Montalescot and et.al., 2013). BBC can resolve issues that are related to
management through various ways and some recommendations are given below:
Team member should work with giving suggestions to each other so that task can get hit
in a shorter period of time.
Team leader should emphasize the aims, objectives and set priorities before
implementation process so that they can work with full knowledge.
Regular training should be given to squad members are per changes if it has been
made.
Monitoring production of individuals of team will give opportunity to manager to
understand capabilities of them in better way.
