TEAMWORK, SOCIAL EVENTS AND COMPANY CULTURE ARE VITAL TO
HAPPINESS AT WORK
RESEARCH QUESTION
What factors can lead in maintaining a healthier environment at the workplace?
Employees are considered as an important part of the organisation. To maintain a happier
and healthier environment in a workplace, it is important to have a good level of interaction
between the employees. Teamwork plays an essential role in the whole scenario. There should be
well interaction between the employees of the company along with the terms with the
management (Wegge and Piecha, 2011). Various minds can speak better than a single one. While
working in a team, various ideas pop out from different people and they can discuss all of them
and can choose the one that seems feasible enough to reach to a positive outcome which can
prove beneficial for the company. It acts always quite better than a single idea. When employees
discuss in groups, a part of their interaction level increases as well. They become able to
communicate with everyone in the team where they can put their own points and recommend
what they think is right (Alison, 2017). When there is a good communication between the
employees and the management and they both are friendly enough to discuss their issues with
them. With respect to that, the management must be capable of solving their issues so that no
employee have to face any sort of problem (Tsai, 2011). These factors can help in making the
culture of the workplace more happier and healthier.
The organisation must organise some sort of social events which can also prove equally
beneficial. These events can help the employees in increasing their confidence level, which can
act as a very essential tool for them in their whole carrier. By participating in these events, they
can be able to open up more, their motivation level will automatically increase and they can
communicate more well with the other co workers and the management as well. It is even
considered that planning of such social events in an organisation acts as one of the best ways for
encouraging a healthier environment of the workplace (Cameron and Calarco, 2011). Only work
makes the company a boring and dull place where one can not even able to think about any
improvements or increments. Sum sort of fun and activities are important. It does not means only

big difference in the capability of the company for retaining quality employees for more years to
come. Planning of any social event must not be easy, specially if it is to be done outside the
office. It takes a great effort for the management as well as for the employees. An organisation
can organise picnics as it seems a wonderful idea for calming the anxieties of the employees and
thus making them more refreshed. It can further help them in staying more focused and confident
towards the work which will lead the company in achieving all its targets within a faster
timeline. Also, an organisation can plan some sporting events. It also can help the staff in
refreshing and expanding their muscles. It can also be a nice idea for their physical and mental
health (Luthans, Luthans and Luthans, 2015).

The culture of an organisation also matters a lot. It is very important for a company to
maintain a well efficient culture. A healthy workplace culture can be evaluated when a company
is going through any stressful situations. The ability of employees happiness and their
productivity, all is affected by the working environment. This sort of environment can be very
beneficial for the company as it can maximise the amount of sales for business. It ensures more
productivity and minimization in costs that are related to the turnover's, medical claims and the
compensations (Salas and Lazzara, 2015). The culture of a company should be efficient enough
so that the employees can seek their growth in that organisation. Also, it reflects the behaviour
between the employees. The communication levels between the employees should be interactive
enough so that they can share their ideas as well as issues together and can reach to a final and
efficient conclusion which seems beneficial for the company and its healthier and happier
culture.
Teamwork is usually referred as a positive step in the whole process of improvement of a
company but at the same time can turn into a negative one as it includes unequal participation
some times. However it can be critically evaluated that it fosters the creativity and learning
when everyone discusses their ideas and views. In contradiction to that, it can also affect the
employees motivation and confidence level as if one participant may be more active than the
other that the others are not being provided even the chance of speak.

The more efficient one can not let others speak and put their views (Wegge and Piecha, 2011). It
terms to unequal participation and is negative for a company as everyone in the organisation
should be treated equally. No organisation supports any type of discrimination. However, it also
leads to various conflicts as when a team or a group of people are together, discussing each
ideas, conflicts are likely to occur. This is so because not everyone's ideas and views matches
and they might feel each other's views as null and of no use, which causes conflicts between the
employees. But, it can be critically evaluated that as they have to work in the same company, so
these types of situations make them capable of fighting with these situations and also to make
their interactions effective with the co workers again (Salas and Lazzara, 2015).
There is no doubt that teamwork, company culture and social events can provide
happiness to the employees at work. But in contradiction to that, these three signs only cannot
make the workplace environment happier. As there are social events in a company, so it is not
essential that everyone in the organisation takes part in that. For the people not participating in it,
it is not an efficient idea for happiness. So there are few other factors also which can contribute
to it. Job security, attractive salary structure etc. can be such activities which makes the
employees happier and satisfied with their job. However, it can be critically analysed that the
overall company culture also matters equal (Salas and Lazzara, 2015). A happier environment at
the workplace makes the employees also happy and they stay confident towards the work. But, in
contradiction to that, there are usually some elements in a workplace that always act negatively.

These negative bodies tries to make the whole environment negative, thus affecting the level of
the well quality employees as well.
However, it can be critically analysed that the company organising some sort of events
can prove beneficial for the employees as it can be considered as a means of fun and recreation
from the daily hectic schedule of work (Wegge and Piecha, 2011). They can feel refreshed and
enjoy the trip with their co workers, can play games and have a lot more fun. It encourages them
to be happy. But, in contrast to it, there may be many employees which do not want to participate
in those events and are not willing to go on office trips, then how can this factor seems
beneficial for them. However it can be critically analysed that positive communication can also
be considered as a factor which leads to a happier and healthier environment in a workplace
(DeChurch and Mesmer-Magnus, 2010). Efficient and well interactions between the employees
are a good sign of a happier environment in an organisation. This is so because all the employees
must be able to discuss their ideas, views with each other and can also talk to them about their
problems. In contrast to that, the company culture can also be affected by some negative
elements that along with their own, manipulates people towards more and more negatively and
makes the environment difficult to survive.
From this, it can be analysed that for maintaining a healthier and happier environment in
a workplace, some factors are essential which need to be considered. Working in groups can help
the employees in increasing their interaction levels. Social events also can make them relaxed
from the daily hectic schedule. As on one side if these factors can make the environment
efficient, on the other side it has some negative effects also which can even deteriorate the
already developed culture. Although organising social events, working in groups or teams and
the overall culture of the company provides an efficient environment to the company but there
are other more factors that can prove much more vital for a happier as well as a healthier
environment as increased salaries, positive relations between the co workers etc. These can even
make the whole environment more efficient and appropriate for the employees as well as for the
management.
