TECH 5348 Project: Redesigning Warehouse for Tyler Fabrication Company

This project details the redesign of a 3,400 sq. ft. warehouse for Tyler, a fabrication company, to enhance shipping capacity and operational efficiency. The existing warehouse suffers from unorganized space utilization, leading to increased time and costs in locating materials. The proposed redesign addresses these challenges by incorporating designated areas for IT management, administrative tasks, inventory operations, and fabrication activities. Key elements of the new plan include a structured layout, a warehouse management plan emphasizing safety and space optimization, an information technology plan for efficient supply chain management, and a comprehensive safety and security plan. The IT plan considers a standardized transaction process using a multi-party approach and explores SaaS versus licensed options for warehouse management. The safety plan outlines measures for building safety, material handling, fire prevention, emergency preparedness, and system security. The project aims to provide a productive and safe environment for employees while streamlining operations and achieving operational targets.

INTRODUCTION
Warehouse management system work together with a
collaboration of software and hardware setting for organization to
control and administer its operations.
These are associated with materials in the warehouse until they
are delivered or distributed to their store setting
Its associated operations are inventory management, picking
processes, and auditing.

INTRODUCTION
Simply putting it together, the overall process is based on
planning, organizing, managing, and implementing complex
operations in order to maintain flow of physical goods and
information.
The focus on the PPT is to redesign a warehouse Tyler – a
Fabrication company so that they have respective space to
handle their operations systematically.

DESIGN AND LAYOUT
As it can be seen in the diagrams
of the warehouse layout, the
space is quite messy, stuff has
been put around with no sense of
space.
This has taken majority of the
space of this 3,400 sq. ft
warehouse which can be used in
a more productive way.
The challenges in this scenario
include the misuse of space with
products and raw material
without being labelled.

DESIGN AND LAYOUT
 It increases the time and cost
for the company to look for
their required material when
they need, and in rush time, the
administration have to reorder
it.
 The new design is supposed to
be planned considering the
existing challenges so that this
space can be used effectively.

AREAS TO CONSIDER FOR REDESIGN
First the space is used in a very unorganized way that reduces the capacity of this
area and limit down its operational capacity.
To overcome the challenge, the space is required to be planned considering the
operational and field operations of the fabrication company (Madurapperuma et al., 2018)
There should be space for the administrative work, inventory, field work, IT department
to collect the information about existing products in the warehouse recorded in the
warehouse management system.
It should also have space for the distribution operations especially to equipment the space
with parking area for the trucks to be parked when not in use.

AREAS TO CONSIDER FOR REDESIGN
As seen in the images, the warehouse is full of products, raw
material, and packages left unattended.
Thus labelling it is another important task for the new plan.
It will require the management to label each product using Micros
system.
The data will be recorded on warehouse’s system.
It will reduce the time and cost of the management while looking for their
required product.

THE NEW PLAN Considering the plan give aside, Block
from A1 to A3 will be based on IT
management, Administrative system,
and database for the warehouse.
Blocks from A4 to A7 will cover the
inventory operations
Meanwhile, from B1 to B3, fabrication
operations will be carried out.
Block S1 to S4 will outline other
operations for examples labeling, rest
rooms, employee space, and others.

THE FABRICATION OPERATIONS
The lower space of the warehouse is
assigned to handle the fabrication
operations or field work.
Therefore, the fabrication plan is
required to be follow the diagram.
Each operation has given importance in
the image for example, from gas
conditioning to absorption column,
employees will be able to perform their
duties efficiently.
Meanwhile, the space is designed in a
way that consider Health and Safety
Operations for the employees following
the regulations.

WAREHOUSE MANAGEMENT PLAN
One key issue that designers miss while planning warehouse management plan is not
leaving the required space between the departments to ensure safety practices.
The same issue is observed here, the warehouse is 3,400 sq. ft, however the first
perception in my mind while seeing is lack of space to handle safety practice.
According to Katie Martenelli the lead of High Speed Training determine that,
- There should be enough space between the aisles to allow the machinery to space
though easily (Pane et al., 2018).
- This reduces the risk of machines colliding with racking's and stacks as it is very
dangerous to labor and workers in the work field (Pane et al., 2018)
- it is also important for space to have proper plan for future growth

THE NEW PLAN
The new warehouse plan will entail,
A one-way traffic system to keep workers from reversing
between spaces. It will reduce the number of accidental collisions
The infrastructure will be based on smooth edges in the spaces. It
will avoid any type of sharp bends as it reduces the visibility and
also increases the risk of collision

THE NEW PLAN
The floor will be clean, levelled, and well-maintained to reduce
damage towards the machinery, pallets, and load. It will also
reduce the risk of dislodging goods
All the machines will have warning lights and audible alarms
The pedestrians in the working area will require to wear high
visibility clothing
