Title
“Race against the Machine” by Erik Brynjolfsson and Andrew Mcafee
Introduction
Summary
The following report has provided a brief insight into the future of the globe as well as
the humans and the growing importance of Technology as well as the use of artificial
intelligence by the coming years. The article highlights the works of Erik Brynjolfsson and
Andrew Mcafee along with the work of Kurzwell where all the authors have mentioned about the
digital revolution of the globe and their impact on the humans and the globe itself
(andrewmcafee.org, 2018). The predictions of Kurzwell especially have been almost proved
absolutely right by the passage of time. Strangely in some of the cases his assumptions of
timings of some events have even occurred much earlier than the original prediction. The world
is going to be ruled by the robotic technology by the year 2045. It is believed that technology is
going to play one of the most crucial roles in the coming years. It is believed that technology in
the workplaces will cost a number of white collar jobs (Brynjolfsson, & McAfee, 2011).
Key Points of the Summary
Some of the key points of the following summary are technology, artificial intelligence,
impact on the globe and the accurate future assumptions by the scientists on the role of the
technologies in the different strata of human life. The most important point of the following
summary is the takeover of the workplace by the technological creations of the man including
robotics and artificial intelligence.

Further Research
As mentioned in the case study the management of the companies has been engaged in
replacing the people with modern and latest technologies. The application and the
implementation of the technologies are proving to be less costly and much more beneficial for
the companies to sustain themselves in the market for the future. The different scientists
especially the likes of Kurzwell believe that by the year 2045 the world will see the merging of
the human intelligence with the artificial intelligence. Such a merger will help to form a
intelligence that will be sharp, fast and vast in limits and can solve every possible complex things
in just some seconds (Foss & Saebi, 2017). The rise of the technology and the spread of the
elements within it are important for the increase in its use in different levels of development.
Technology has totally changed the way by which people approaches a work. The transformation
process in technology has ensured the ability or the completion of different works that were
earlier believed to be done only by people. On the other hand, these works are now easily done
by the use of computer and other technological gadgets. One of the major examples was that of
the Supercomputer Deep Blue manufactured by IBM defeated chess champion Gary Kasparov in
a highly publicized tournament. Such a bizarre prediction as done by Kurzwell long back and he
estimated the following thing to happen in the year 2000. However, he was proved wrong as
such an impossible task was completed in the year 1997.
The advancement in robotic technology is quite evident in computers, machines, robots
and even in algorithms. The following is going to be the main essence of what actually the
machine learning is all about. There are different types of skill levels falls under the following
category which can be higher level to lower level employees. One of the main use of modern
technologies comes with Google which provides special services to the users to convert different

types of languages to local or international dialects (Reim Parida & Örtqvist, 2015). Apart from
this the case study also mentions the research that is currently in place for the development of
self driven or electric cars. Companies such as Google have advanced in their preparations for
the same. However, they have announced that they need more time to develop a proper prototype
of the following model. As it seems from the different research and development process of the
companies indicates a major shift in the policies and workforce change in the coming years. Such
a change will mark a new beginning in the globe and will push it towards a technological
revolution. As mentioned in the last part of the case study and also according to Thomas, Chie,
Abraham, Jalarajan & Beh, (2014) the following age will sacrifice a number of blue and white
collar workers in the workplace as instead of physical or manual labor force the organization will
depend on the implementation of a robotic workforce with artificial intelligence
