AI Summary
This report explores the significant advantages of technology in the healthcare industry. It highlights how technology enhances patient engagement, improves efficiency through electronic health records (EHR/EMR), and reduces risks with minimally invasive surgeries. The report references studies by Deloitte, and other researchers to support its claims. It also discusses the increasing role of technology in diagnostics, such as nuclear medicine and new imaging technologies, while addressing challenges like increasing healthcare demands and decreasing labor supply. The study concludes by emphasizing the importance of technology implementation to store electronic data, reduce paperwork, and improve access to information. The report also notes differences in IT capital and labor utilization between for-profit and not-for-profit hospitals.

1ADVANTAGE OF TECHNOLOGY IN HEALTHCARE
Day by day Technology is emerging in a fast manner as it is affecting every aspect of our
lives in modern society. Nowadays it is hard to find an industry that has not affected by
technology. Modern technologies ease our daily life’s work in every way such as security,
communication, transportation and others. In healthcare, this impact is immense than any other
field. From bio-medical engineering to extensive acceptance of electronic health records and
other technologies change the structure and organization of the entire healthcare industry. Not
only it is lessen our work effort and helps to get efficient results, it also enables new possibilities.
Medical technologies are essential to maintain people’s health and enhance the quality of life. It
also brings several advantages to the table in the healthcare industry such as enhancing patient
engagement and reduce the risks of invasive surgery. The concept of patient engagement is not
new to the healthcare industry through the major role of technologies to enhance the engagement
is innovative. According to a survey result executed by Deloitte, the growth of patient
engagement has rapidly increased by the use of technology (Deslich et al., 2013). Technology
enables the approach to get minor or major information related to health online. Technologies
such as EMR/ EHR can develop workflow by using the shared information (Cresswell & Sheikh,
2013). It provides faster access to the information with remarkable cost savings which results in
improved efficiency. This approach reduces paperwork and ensures accurate information flow.
Through the use of technologies, the communication between patient and physician can be
enhanced that enable the flow of exchange information as change or update on the patient’s
condition. Through the improvement of health-related information systems, experts can analyze
public health data that can help to identify trends and improve outcomes. The patient's files can
be stored in an efficient manner and can be accessed from anywhere in a particular facility.
Through using technology, diagnostics can be done easily and more accurately especially in

nuclear medicine area. For examining a patient’s anatomy there are several new imaging
technologies available that help doctors avoid invasive procedures to form a diagnosis.
Radiologists and MRI technologists demand have also increased as a result of rapid advances in
managing technology (Gao, Li & Luo, 2015). Minimally invasive surgeries such as thoracic
surgery and the disciplines of cardiovascular have also become common in recent years. The
development of better instruments and more advanced technology have allowed surgeons to
perform procedures in minimally invasive ways that just wasn’t possible a few years ago.
Healthcare industries are facing major challenges in this decades. Increasing population demands
more social and health services through the labor supply is decreasing. By implementing
technologies in healthcare provides industries to store electronic data that lessen the paperwork,
avoiding unnecessary tests and faster access to information. Health IT utilization differs
substantially by hospital ownership status (Sakas, Vlachos, & Nasiopoulos, 2014). For-profit
hospitals utilize eighty-three percent less IT capital than not-for-profit hospitals. For-profit
institutions also utilize more IT labor per dollar of IT capital.
