1PATIENT CARE TECHNOLOGY
Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary disorder are one of the most common
respiratory diseases in the world. With the advancements of the technologies, various new
technologies has become very gettable to the nurse practitioners and to the patients as well. In
case of managing asthma and COPD various new technologies are reported to be used and
those were very effective nature (Farooqui et al., 2015). As a nurse manager, in the treatment
process use of the use of Electronic Monitoring Device (EMD) and use of Mobile
Application can be recommended as a part of technology use in the hospital settings.
The study of Farooqui et al. (2015), investigated the effectiveness of mobile
application in the management of asthma and COPD. In this intervention, patients were given
reminders for their medication and reward points were given based on the medication use
through the application. Study result showed that, the mobile application intervention helps
the patients to avoid asthma triggers by using medicine.
On the other hand, the study of Chan et al. (2015), examined the effectiveness of
EMD technology in the management of Asthma and COPD. EMD intervention group was
also given an audio-visual reminder. Higher amount of adherence were reported among the
intervention group than that of the control group of the study. The study result concluded
that, there was significant reduction in the asthma morbidity scores after the 6 months
intervention ( 9.30 to 7.3) and in case of the control group, this reduction score was almost
8.0 which was lowered from 9.20.
