The purpose of the article is to examine and evaluate the impact of the social media in
teenagers and understand whether the extensive use of social media has a positive or a negative
impact on them. Jon Henley raises the concern about the massive impact that the virtual world is
having on the teen agers and finds answer to the concern that teenager’s engrossed in their
phones and Facebook are turning to screen enslaved “social inadequates”. The purpose of the
article is known from the evaluation that Mr. Henley has done throughout the paper. The various
interviews and data represented by him reveal the purpose of the article.

The author has used primary as well as secondary information to justify the claims that
have been made in the article. The author has referred to several interviews that had been
undertaken to understand the social psyche of the teenagers. Along with he has also cross
checked the claims through statistical data and has validated the statement made by him. he has
used facts and figures that justify the intensive use of the medium by the teenagers and justify the
claims of the author. Varying types of evidences are important since they provide a concrete
support for any article and allow for cross checking through the evidences eventually validating
the evidences. The varying evidences in fact complement each other and provide a competent
research to any article.

A good supporting evidences will include statistical data interpreted with evaluative
results and will support the statement or facts that are provided in an article. ‘Bad’ evidence will
be loosely stated facts that are arbitrary without any supporting evidence or concrete support.
The facts that have been randomly stated without justification can be treated as bad evidence.

The author has provided a strong argument and the evidences such as reference of the
statement made by teenagers were juxtaposed with facts and figures contributed to the argument.
The author has not just stated his arguments but has woven the argument with supporting
references from facts, statistical data and experiences shared by the teenagers. The evidences
used by the author have contributed positively to the argument made by the author.
