INTRODUCTION
Current study is based on telecommunication company that operates in UK and employed
5000 employees. The duties of telecom engineers are to ensure connection of telephone lines and
internet cables. Present report will discuss hazardous may arise from activities of telecom
engineers. Furthermore, it will provide potential controlling measures to reduce such risks. In
addition, risk assessment will be produced in order to ensure that company complies with law.
TASK
1. Hazards arise from activities of telecom Engineers
There are many risks that may arise from activities of telecom engineers. These are
explained as below:
Operational risk
This is considered as on of the main hazardous activity that may arise from activity of
telecom engineers. This includes failure to improve organizational agility, failure to understand
role. In such condition engineer can get ailed to perform their duties well (Osabutey and Okoro,
2015). By this way issues such as short circuit, line disturbance can be created. Operational risks
can cause harm to engineers of telecommunication firm and can affect operational efficiency of
the business to great extent.
Financial risk
Apart from operational risk, financial risk may also arise due to the activities of telecom
engineers. If engineers are unable to understand the problem in line connection then they may
use unwanted equipments due to which telephone lines may get destroyed. This can increase cost
of company and customer as well (Olson and Wu, 2015). Inability to extract values from
network assets is another issue that increase chances of financial risk.
Strategic risk
It is another type of risk that may arise on telecommunication firm with the activities of
telecom engineers. If engineers are unable to understand requirement of customers then it may
affect brand image of the company to great extent. It may be possible that they may fail to adopt
correct route to repair telephone lines. In such condition risk may arise related to consumers,
competitors and investors (Taghizadeh and et.al, 2016). Because consumers may move to other
telecommunication firm ad n it can give opportunity to competitors to earn more profit.

2. Potential control measures
Controlling measures can be defined as actions that can be taken by firm to reduce
impact of risk arise from activities of employees. Potential controlling measures are as following:
 Use engineering controls: It is one of the best controlling measures in which management
of company can redesign operational process in order to make it more efficient. Use of
advance technologies, proximity guarding can help in minimizing operational risk. In this
respect Telecommunication firm can use standard equipments and can follow standard
procedures to minimize accidents at the working areas of engineers (Fan and et.al, 2016).
 Implementation of administrative control measures: It is another solution to minimize or
control over risk that are arisen from activities of engineers. In this respect, company is
required to provide training to staff members and needs to create safe work practices for
them. This can support in reduce potential harm. By this way strategic risk can be
controlled to great extent.
 Use of personal protective equipments: these equipments include gloves, glasses,
earmuffs, safety footwear, dust mask etc. while repairing telephonic line or any data line.
This is the potential controlling measure that can support in minimizing financial risk of
the business (Pianeselli and Zaghini, 2014).
3. Practical application of range of control measures for risk
Health and Safety act 1974 act is made by the government of nation in order to provide
safe working environment to employees so that they can perform their duties well and can
remain safe. This act explains duties and responsibilities of employees, employers and all related
person those who are engaged with working practices. Telecommunication firm should apply
measure of use of personal protective equipments then it may support in minimising accidents at
the workplace. Engineers of telecom industry has to deal with electrical parts. In such condition
some time shock may have to face by them (Top 10 risks in telecommunications, 2014). If this
concept is implemented by firm strictly and employees wears gloves. Footwear etc. then chances
of meting with accidents and personal ham can get minimized to great extent. Furthermore,
implementation of administrative control measures can be beneficial for the entity. For
controlling over risk. Management should provide proper training to engineers regarding dealing
with wires, telephone lines then this may enhance their knowledge and they can perform their

work well. By this way customers will be satisfied and they will retain with the corporation for
longer duration (Hazard and Risk, 2017).
4. Justification for recommendation
As suggested controlling measures were personal protective equipments and
administrative control measures. These are potential way through which risk that occur from
activities of telecom engineers can be minimized and controlled to great extent. If engineers wear
proper cloths, footwear, g;loves while working then it can definitely minimize chances of
accidents. Apart from this training is the great way that supports in enhancing knowledge of
engineers about their working profile and responsibilities. By this way they can get to know
about the latest technologies and their uses procedure. This can support in developing their
professional skills and they will be able to understand issue of customers and will be able to
provide them services as per their requirements. Engineering controls measured is not being
suggested because it can be included under administrative measure (Olson and Wu, 2015). If
people are getting training then they will perform with care thus, workplace environment will be
safe and healthy.

From the above study it can be concluded that telecom engineers job is very hazardous. If
they do not perform their work properly and do not pay attention on safety measures then it may

case physical harm to them and brand image of the company can get affected. Companies are
required to create health and safe workplace environment and have to follow standard procedure
and equipments so that accidents and risk can be minimized.
