Contribution of My Alma Mater
My Alma mater – ‘Telfer School of Management’ has assisted by all through my journey to
pursue my goal of achieving the job of a CFA. It has enlightened a layman like me, to
develop business insights, leadership management skills, practical know-how, through real
life experiences and industry exposure.
Learning Through Mistakes
Initially I made several mistakes during the real-life projects as well as internships provided
by out Alma mater-‘Telfer School of Management’ . During my internship I was instructed to
make several decisions which were not prudent enough to enhance profitability of the firm
where I was working as an intern. Faults in time management occurred when I was burdened
with working during the initial period of my first job (Telfer.uottawa.ca., 2019). I was not
able to understand the tricks to manage time as well as complex situations. During the initial
period of my leadership I was unable to find out the tricks which will help to manage the

team I was heading. I was not able to trace out the methods to be implemented in order to
enhance the productivity of the team members (Gobankingrates.com, 2019). I feel blessed
that there were professors, alumni, lectures by real-life business leaders, which guided me
toward the path of perfection. The course of my degree enlightened me, developed
knowledge and insights regarding business. Allowed me to learn through competencies. All
these have made a substantial contribution in my achievement of perfection and sustainability
in the job of a CFA. I want to convey my heartfelt gratitude to my Alma mater for all these
reasons.
My Steps to Success Were:
From my mistakes I learnt to be patient and time management skills. A patient mind has
helped me to take prudent decision. Due to my swiftness, I am able to manage multiple tasks
at a time. Hence, my ability to learn through my mistakes shaped me. The challenges I faced
during the initial phases of my leadership, have made me a calm and prudent person. This
gave birth to clarity of thoughts. The clarity in thoughts renovated my decision-making
power. As I started gaining experiences, my ability to make leadership strategies and plans
developed. All these paved my way to success (work.chron.com., 2019).
General advice
As a general advice to the present students I can say that, they need to learn Time
management as this is very important for a leader so that all the business activities are

performed on time. The sense of punctuality in a leader is most important for the successful
management of a business o0rganization. This will not make sure that all the decisions are
made in time and all the strategies are taken before it is too late. Hence time management will
also prevent risks.
They need to develop the ability to make prudent decisions as prudent decision will ensure
profitability, customer satisfaction and image building for a brand. They need to inculcate
strategic planning abilities. As strategic business planning- It is essential for a leader to make
strategies to reduce cost, enhance profitability and ensure building the brand identity through
prudent CSR strategies. Future leaders will require team management skills. This will be
include-managing the team, convince and motivate them to work hard-Again it is very crucial
for a leader to manage the team, maintain a good communication as well as cooperation
motivate the team to increase productivity and appreciate the efforts the team members
