Many people belongs to different nation and they have their unique tradition which makes them

to communicate in their language due to language barrier and could misunderstood any message.
This creates complexities in making them comfortable with other tradition. Technology helps in
minimising its impact on business as there are many software application which helps in effectively

cultural impact. It is one of the biggest method to influence people by using technology media. It
helps companies to understand cultural difference and to make strategies in order to minimise its
impact. There are many people who belongs to different countries and Tesco deeply understand
their tradition and culture in order to provide foster environment to them. Technology positively
impacts on company's performance and they by this company can take advantage as it becomes
easier for company to target customer of different companies as they have employees of same
culture. Understanding culture help companies to attract customer of other companies
The role of media and technology on business cannot be understated as there are many
advantages which are associated with the use and integration of cutting edge technologies into the
operational framework of the company. The case study which has been taken in this transcript and
the PPT which this transcript is supposed to support, is based on the organizational context of Tesco
and has focused on the Mayo's theory of human relations which he acquired after conducting great
fundamental research on the prospect of motivating dissatisfied employees in a company. The main
principle which Mayo preaches with the aim of this theory is that employees in a company are more
inclined to get positively influenced by social factors such as being part of a particular group or
community or being the center of personal and professional attention as opposed to more widely
believed environmental factors which contain propose of financial remunerations and benefits
which are financial in nature. This case study aims to analyze the workforce of Tesco and analyze
the impact of smart technologies such as Cloud computing and analytics such as AI and automated
systems have on the various business dimensions of the company and how they relate and impact
the workforce in terms of their positive and negative impact (Edwards and et.al.,, 2018). The
dimensions which will be explored in this section will include the political, cultural and social
dimension which are all very relevant determiners of business success in the long run as businesses
such as Tesco which is a retail market leader needs a stable political environment, keen
understanding of the social behaviour of their target market along with culturally relevant business
tendencies to sustain their workforce and eventual profitability in a proper manner. The major
dimensions of the company Tesco have been highlighted herein in terms of the technological impact
of cloud computing and AI system integration and to study the impact of using such technologies on
the human relations theory which will be applied on Tesco.
Political dimension
Tesco is the current market leader of UK's leading retail and grocery market industry and
due to its huge stature, the company has been subjected to a great deal of legal and political
sanctions and regulatory requirements which it has to constantly fulfil to ensure that the firm faces
no significant risks in the long run. UK's political landscape has not been kind to market leaders like
Document Page
Tesco due to the sheer incompetence by the government in responding to key strategic issues such
as Brexit which has opened many fault lines and trade barriers in the country along with the way the
government has handled the pandemic very shoddily that has made Tesco declare millions of dollars
worth of losses multiple times. This environment of UK has also been extremely disheartening
towards the employees of the company as Tesco employees close to 375000 employees which is a
major number spread across the multitude of its various stores and supermarkets. Due to the advent
of Brexit and the pandemic, many employees have lost their job due to Tesco shutting down many
of its stores and shutting down the section of stores where the pandemic ate a lot of their profit and
capabilities up such as poultry which is also a matter of political concern as such mass scale job cuts
are detrimental to the overall growth of the economy and employees getting subjected to extreme
forms of bias and firing based on a whim can cause protests where the government would be very
likely to intervene. Mayo's theory of human relations also applies to the political dimension of
Tesco and its related operations as without the existence of a proper regulatory and compliance
department, it would be tough to comply with the set regulations and taking care of employees
generates goodwill on behalf of the company which will also increase the way in which the
government perceives the company which should be positive at al times to avoid the wrath of the
party in power which UK government does frequently (de Ghantuz Cubbe, 2019). By using smart
technologies such as Cloud computing and analytics, firms like Tesco can perform their
departmental operations such as undergoing regulatory compliances in a much faster manner and
without the risk of human related errors which will help the company avoid political conflicts and
penalties. One of the key pillars which firms like Tesco base their market operations on is market
research which is done to predict external abnormalities including potential political disturbances
and having access to cloud based analytics and metrics will help Tesco to account for their local and
country level political policy changes and disruptions in a much more efficient manner. AI system
integration can also help in marginalizing job cuts due to the capability to sustain disruptions
increasing as these systems help the company become much more agile which will improve
employee relations as job security is a major factor towards generating motivation.
Social dimension
This is also one of the most important business dimensions which affects the way in which a
business sand its market operations affect and get affected by the various variables of modern
society. As mentioned in the above sections of this report, the handling of both, the COVID-19
pandemic and Brexit left a lot to be desired and Tesco has faced the brunt of these lacklustre
decisions due to it taking heat in the form of financial losses (El Fituri, 2019). The employee
relations in the firm have also undoubtedly suffered from these events as the constant job cuts along
Document Page
with the operational unpredictability displayed by the company has led to major dissatisfaction and
the level of motivation suffering in the firm. The firm has also been involved in various social
controversies which have not only reduced its public perception but further soured the employee
relations due to the issue of their workers getting inadequate compensation for their work. By using
technologies such as cloud analytics, the firm can improve many of its employee relation problems
as there are metrics which are provided which can help Tesco undertake proper means of
performance appraisal and help them undertake a broad market analysis to fix their low level of
wages. AI systems can also help employees become much more comfortable at work and reduce
their workload by a large margin as core tasks of retail can be effectively substituted through
automation (Mansbach and Ferguson, 2021).
There is no denying that technologies such as smart AI systems and cloud metrics have a
positive effect on the existing employee relations in a company but there is also a major dilemma
which is present in terms of ethical considerations which makes this a worthwhile case study to
explore further.
CONCLUSION
The above report went into detail regarding the various complex processes involved in
conducting a detailed analysis of the business's external business dimensions in order to study the
effect of emerging technologies on human and employee relations. The report discussed three key
dimensions which were political, social and cultural along with the detailed technological impact of
smart technologies such as Cloud analytics and AI system integration on the firm's workforce and
the report was submitted as a transcript with was supported by a detailed video PPT on the same
topic. It was concluded from this report that technology has a visible and far reaching effects on the
workforce of companies and their application must be encouraged.
