INTRODUCTION
Business functions are those activities with are carries on by the company to achieve its
goals and objectives (Adams and Gillman, 2016). The company selected for this report is Tesco
which trades at multinational level.
The aims and objectives of Tesco is to achieve profits, invest in proper manner and offer
products and services to customers. The following are functional areas on which Tesco works :
Marketing Function- It is an important part on which every business has to focus. This
function helps in building brand and formulate strategies which can help company to
expand and develop connect with its costumers (Deejay, Rublee and Zech, 2019). The
role of marketing function in Tesco is to do market research and carry on sales
promotional and advertising activities to increase brand awareness.
Finance Function- This functional area of company helps in procuring assets to carry
out the tasks productively. It identifies need of finance in an enterprise and tells it know
sources though which funds can be acquired. Finance function play vital role in Tesco as
it records all the transactions, controls cash flow of company and take financial decisions
on time.
Operations Function- This function comprises of various aspects that are required to
cooperate in terms of the processing in an entity. It facilitates coordination between
different departments of company such as connecting employees to project manager,
marketing activities to sales (Beda, 2020). The duty of operations function in Tesco is to
make services in which an enterprise deals and ensure that there is adequate stock
available to carry out production activities.
Human Resource- It is a basic business function which help companies in recruiting
people, keep their performance records and support him in development and
improvement. In Tesco, the human resource plays its role by recruiting, training and
developing the new staff members.
Importance
When the responsibilities of one department or functions are established, that function easily
forgets about the other departments and they are also serving for the main goal of

It helps employees in gaining an atomistic view of the working an enterprise as the
working collaboratively may avoid losing aim of company's other moving parts.
It may complement the needs of multiple departments as the duplication of work may be
avoided and streamline process in enterprise can have easy work flow (Collins, 2019) .
The generation of idea are increased because when the functions are working in
collaboration, each one of them can have ideas and one of best suitable can be used.
The feeling of 'we are one term' can be influenced in functions because they learn and
examine each other motivations and relate them to company.
CONCLUSION
From the above project report business functions like marketing, finance, operations, and
human resource helps the company is achieving its goals and objectives in effective manner. It is
important fro these functions to work in coordination to get the work done by avoiding
duplication of work.
