Abstract
Purpose This research study aims to investigate the impact of organisational structure and
culture on its success, using case study survey methods within a quantitative research
paradigm. It explores how the organisational structure and culture have contributed to the
Tesco’s success within a very competitive industry.
Design/methodology/approach This report is based on primary research. However, the
empirical framework for this research is founded on literatures on organisational structure
and culture. Primary data is collected through questionnaires to answer the research
questions.
Findings – The picture of the findings are not straightforward and some variation have come
out which are quite different than general assumptions. The study has established that
there are strong correlation in between organisational structure & culture and its
success. Should Tesco knowingly choose not to modify their organisational culture and
structure in line with evolving external dynamics then there is no doubt that over time
these systems will become less and less suitable for the needs of the organisation,
which is in agreement with literatures on the topic.
Practical implications – This study finds the organisational structural and cultural factors
that hinder effectiveness of an organisation. It also has strategic management
implications to implement novel systematic organisational structural and cultural to
improve organisations’ success.
Originality/value This paper is the first academic study conducted at Tesco to study its
organisational structure & culture and their implication to its success.

Cultural diversity in workplace is the result of practises and values, beliefs and
traditions of employees or workers based on race, age, religion and gender. It means hiring
an employee from several backgrounds, cultures and countries unrelated of the race, caste,
gender and religion etc. this helps the company and organisation in searching for new talents
and hiring new people who can bring new ideas and innovative ideas. Employers have also
realised that workforce diversity provides both materials and intangible benefits to the
company. Mangers of the company should hire new candidates from various countries. These
candidates help the company in achieving success of the organisation and increase in
profitability. But it is essential for the company to manage cultural diversity in order to
increased benefits for the company. It helps in reducing conflicts and making effective
communication barriers. This should be done by mangers of the company. Cultural diversity
is when various races, identities, ages, capacities, dialects, ethnicities, financial situations
with, religions, and additionally sexual directions are all around addressed inside a local area.
The gathering is assorted if a wide assortment of gatherings are addressed. It's significant not
exclusively to have social variety in networks yet in addition in the work environment. This
is their responsibility to manage cultural diversity workforce in the business environment so
that there can be effective employee satisfaction and there can be increase in employee
engagement. By having effective cultural diversity in the workplace, employees will also feel
good and works towards the achievement of personal ad organisational goals and objectives.
This helps the company in increasing their success rate and their productivity. This research
is on the company called Tesco. it has to manage its cultural diversity in effective manner so
that their employees could also feel good and work towards the achievement of goal.
1.2 Background to research organization
Tesco is the British multinational company which deals n groceries, clothing,
furniture, books, petrol and software tec. It is the general merchandise retailer company
which has a headquarter in England. It was founded in the year 1919 by John Cohen.
Company is operating in all over the world. Currently it is operating in more than eleven
countries. There are abut 6,800 shops in all the world. There are about 405,506 employees
are currently working in a company. It is the public limited company and woks at various
online platforms in worldwide. They all satisfied by the working cultural company and

mangers are providing to them. This helps them the company in increasing their sells and
increasing their profitability and revenues. Tesco net income is 1.320 billion and its operating
income is currently 2.206 billion. Tesco has several competitors in the market. These are
Morrisons, Asda, Sainsbury and Lidl etc. these are also considering as the biggest companies
n all over the world. Mangers of the company are performing their roles and responsibilities
in very effective manner and they also focus on managing culture workforce diversity in
business organisation. This helps in increasing their productivity and revenues. Employees
are satisfied by the working environment. However, there are some of the challenges which
are faced by mangers in managing cultural workforce diversity. So, there are some of the
recommendations are also made towards the company in enhancing employee’s satisfaction.
1.3Research rationale
The topic selected for conducting research is impact of cultural diversity management
in the workplace as it is important for growth and development or company. The main reason
for selecting this topic for conducting research is as it helps in achieving the personal and
professional objectives. In context of personal objective it helps in preparing blueprint of the
activities which provides effective results that is understanding of cultural diversity. In
context of professional context it helps in performing job role at workplace in effective and
efficient manner. Another reason for conducting research is to understanding the various
factors responsible for increasing competition in the retail industry in UK. It is one of the
effective strategy which help the retailer in increasing their customer base. This aspect will
provide great support in enhancing my own business and I would able to increase my
customer base.

A literature review is basically a survey conducted in the process of research with the
motive to gather information on the specific topic. With the use of already available
information or data the concept are cleared and understand in order to achieve the objective
of research effective and efficiently within the set time frame (Ashraf and Galor, 2011).

It has been identified that diversity has helped companies in developing and making
business more success (Cultural diversity. 2021). Technology is playing important role as it
is helping organizations of all size to freely operate and select the best candidate for different
positions. Moreover cultural diversity is in trend and is having major impact on the growth of
the retail companies. Cultural diversity is describe as the effective approach where people
belonging to different culture are able to work together at one place. As with the increasing in
the needs of customer, more number of new businesses are taking place and with the use of
effective cultural diversity management they are able to accomplish their desire results. In
retail sector it is helping in developing and maximizing the skilled workforce. On the off
chance that the workforce and the board don't support culture diversity, groups will be frail.
Sadly, individuals may have earlier misguided judgments that may prompt
miscommunication and issues between colleagues of various foundations. The talented and
skills employees formulate effective strategies according to the current trend and the need of
the customers which provide positive result to the company. The employees from different
culture and background able to take effective decision together according to the problem
which also helping in boosting the problem solving skills. The retail sector in UK is focusing
on effective management of diverse culture that is recruiting employees on the bases of their
skills and abilities and not on the bases of gender, age, etc. Furthermore they are providing
other benefits to employees such as bonus, incentives, etc. Moreover they are helping in the
