Introduction
Tesco is one of the British multi-national groceries and general merchandise retailer. This
company is becoming third largest retailer in the world measured by its gross revenues. Tesco
was founded in 1919 by Jack Cohen as establish a group of market stalls in London
(Hussainy, 2020). Tesco has been performed the different operations such as production,
outbound logistics, Human resource management, infrastructure development, product
manufacture etc. The size and scale of Tesco is that operating around 2,318 stores and
employing over 3,26,000 people.
Motivation Theories
Maslow’s need Hierarchy theory- This type of theory is basically motivating the employee in
organization to fulfill their basis needs (Fadeyi, 2020). Tesco has been used this theory to
motivate the workers where they can develop understanding towards safety, social esteem and
physiological needs.
Herzberg theory- The Frederick Herzberg theory is proposed as new motivation approach in
which analysed the job satisfier’s motivators and always maintain a proper hygiene factor in
the workplace. Tesco has been used the two factor theory of motivation in order to fulfill all
essential need or requirement for consumers in marketplace (Alexander, 2020). By using
Herzberg theory, it is basically representing the motivation of employee a business needs to
create specific conditions.
Financial and Non-Financial Motivators
In tesco, financial motivators are commonly used in the workplace and
involves monetary rewards and awards. These are basically used to motivate or
inspire employee towards organizational goals (Aiello, Quercia and Del Prete,
2020). On the other hand, Non-Financial Motivators are recognition, flexible
schedule, mentor ship, feedback and participation in decision etc.
Tesco has been used financial and non-financial motivators to engage with
employee and satisfied with a proper facilities and services.
