LO2
Conduct small-scale research, information gathering and data collection, generating
knowledge to support the project
P4. Carry out a small-scale research by applying qualitative and quantitative research
methods for meeting project aims and objectives
Methodology
The research methodology is imperative as it provides an understanding on the research
problems and provides methodical ways to resolve the issues (Kumar, 2019). These comprise of
the use of the tools and various other segments, which are a part of the research. This will be
critically illustrated and evaluated in the process of the execution of research.
Research philosophy: The research philosophy is the belief, which is carried out for the
execution of the research. There are four types of research philosophies mainly pragmatism,
realism, interpretivism and positivism (Silverman, 2016). The researcher has made the use of the
positivism as it relies on the utilisation of factual knowledge gained through observation and is
quantifiable.
Research design: The research design is to assure that the proper data is collected accurately
and economically. It is of two type’s mainly exploratory and conclusive research (Quinlan,
2019). The researcher will take into consideration the utilisation of exploratory research design
as it is of a general nature and instigates research on a particular situation.
Research approach: The research approach highlights the plans and the procedures, which are
undertaken for the production of the research in a viable manner. It consists of assumptions to
the detailed data analysis. There are three types of research approaches mainly deductive,
abductive and inductive in nature (Lilac and Pope, 2018). The researcher has taken into account
the deductive research approach as the research tests the viability of the assumptions and
theories.
Data Collection method: The data that has been collected for the research is done through the
process of the primary data collection. The primary data collection includes the use of
quantitative and the qualitative data analysis. The quantitative data will be done by surveying
11

employees of Tesco and the qualitative research will be done interviewing the HR manager and
the CEO of Tesco. The consent forms will be available before the execution of the research.
Sampling size: The sampling size indicates the number of participants that are a part of the
research. There are two types of sampling size mainly the probability and the non-probability
research technique. The researcher has made the use of the probability sampling for the
execution of the research. There will be 15 employees from Tesco and 2 managers of the
company for the research.
Data Collection
The data which will be conducted will be done through the survey of the 15 employees in the
quantitative section. It will take into account the use of the two managers from the company for
the qualitative analysis.
