INTRODUCTION
Health and safety measures need to be taken by each and every organisation for safety of
its most valuable resources such as human being so that they can be motivated and influenced to
work hard for growth and success of enterprise. HR manager by using different techniques and
tool can ensure health and safety of employees so that they can effectively contribute towards
achievement of organisational goals. This report is about Tesco that is multinational grocery
store founded in 1919 by Jack Cohen having more than 6, 800 stores to provide qualitative and
innovative products and services to customers. It identifies and analysis about various health and
safety measure taken by HR manager of Tesco to retained employees satisfaction and loyalty
within firm.
Aim:
To evaluates about importance of health and safety of employees and good working
environment for organisation. A case study of TESCO.
Objective:
1. To explains about roles of health and safety in improving performance of employees.
2. To know about different techniques and method that is used by HR manager to ensure
health and safety of individual.

Theme1: The way health and safety of employees can be ensured
As per view of Alam and Raut-Roy, (2019) health and safety is one of the most
important measures that need to be taken by HR manager of firm so that individual can be
motivated to work hard so that firm can achieve its objectives. Therefore various steps that
needs to be taken by HR manager to reduce chance of illness and injury within workplace.
Manager should understand associated risk with particular work so that steps can be planed to
ensure safety of individual. As per Alam and Raut-Roy leaders and manager of firm need to
ensures that employees are provided stress free working environment, there should be strong
relationship among employees so that easily work. They should support and listen to grievance

and problem and find appropriate solution so that they can be motivated to work effectively.
Long working hours and inflexible policies are some of the most challenges that are faced by
employees while working so they need to be avoided. Breaks after several intervals help in
regaining employee’s energy and motivate it to work more efficiently and effectively for growth
of firm. Medical aids need to be present in firm so that in case of uncertainty such proper cure
can be given to individual. Manager should plan, organise various resources, technologies that
are required by employees to perform their work thus it will reduce wastages of time. Strong
relationship between employees, various health insurance and different measures taken by HR
manager helps in ensuring better health and safety of individual. Various equipments needs to be
present that are used to protect individual form hazard or injury thus it helps in reducing chance
of risk of workplace accidents.
Theme 2: Importance of safety and workplace
As noted by Kai, (2019) there are many hazard in present working environment so for
health and safety, well being of both employees and employer such measures are necessary and
important. It is responsibility of employer to take various steps for ensuring employees safety
from different hazards. One of the reasons to provide health and safety workplace is to prevent
individual from illness and injury. Such safety measure helps employees to understand potential
hazard within organisation so that they can be stay, safe and healthy. It also helps in raising
employee’s motivation and morale level to effective contribute in growth and success of firm as
they are happy and satisfied that company is concerned about their safety and security. As per
Kai another reason for implementing health and safety measures is that it helps in avoiding
serious consequence as various guidelines and measures are taken by HR manager so that
individual can work effectively. Loss of human resource is one of the most big loss so HR
manager need to take appropriate for health and safety of individual. Thus, management should
ensure safety and security of employees to motivate them to enhance their performance and
productivity and build strong brand image.

Research types: It state about types of research that we have conducted to know about why and
how safety and health measure can be taken by organisation to maintain its strong brand image.

Qualitative method: When research of information and data is conducted in depth so that
desired resulted can be get such as level of employee’s satisfaction, good working environment
and performance of employees (Gravel and Dubé, 2016).
Quantitative method: on the other hand when research is conduct by use of numerical, statistic
to draw conclusion whether health and safety measure at work are essential or not (Bingham,
2016). In this report qualitative method are used to conduct research so that in-depth information
of topic can be gathered for best outcome.
Data collection: It explains the way data and information is gathered to conduct research about
why and how health and safety at work place can be implemented. There are two different
methods to collect data such as:
Primary: First hand information or personal interviews, questionnaire asked to individual that
are working in organisation are some of the method for primary research (Mohammadfam and
et.al., 2017). Primary data collection method consumes lot of time, effort and money to collect
data by asking different individual.
Secondary: Information that are collected through use of secondary sources such as books,
journals, newspaper and articles for further research. In order to conduct research on health and
safety at workplace secondary sources are used for better outcome.
Data Analysis: It illustrates the way data and information is analysed so that best and effective
result can be collected from particular information (Valley and Stallones, 2017).
Thematic: Data analysed through use of different theme so that particular information can be
gathered from specific theme of research.
Statistical: It is arithmetical process in which different data are sum up and divided by total
number for getting desired result (de Celis and et.al., 2017). Therefore the researches have be
conducted by use of thematic method to appropriately analysis large number of data.
Analysis and Finding
From the above analysis, research it have been founded that manager of TESCO is active
and continuously work, plan so that employees can be provided safe and secure environment.
Manager of Tesco has provided medical insurance, provident fund to employees so that they can
feel, safe, secure while working within organisation. Implementation of equality Act within
TESCO has provided opportunities to all employees to equally share their opinion, ideas for
growth and expansion of enterprise. HR manager by recruiting, selecting and promoting

employees on equal basis is able to provide good working environment that allows each
individual to easy grow and develop new skills and knowledge. Employees are not exploited to
work over times so that they can take proper rest and ensure better for performing different
function in future circumstances. Tesco manager continuously, plan, organise and arrange
resource so that employees can easily work perform their function and contribute in achievement
of organisational goals. Different equipment, medical aids are installed in every stores of Tesco
so that in case of emergence individual can be provided appropriate treatment for living healthy
and safe lifestyles (Johnson, Robertson and Cooper, 2016). Alert signal are also assigned so that
employees tries to avoid themselves to go such places where there is danger of their health and
safety. HR manager of Tesco use information technologies and other modern equipment,
technologies to monitor and supervise performance and productivity of each employees so it can
easily identify problem faced by them. At the same time plan effective solution to resolve all
such issue that they are facing while performing different task. There are many steps that are
implemented by HR manager so that safe and secure workplace can be offer to each individual
that are working in Tesco. Leaders encourage, motivate and support individual to learn new
things, adapt changes and share their innovative ideas in crucial decision making in order to
generate a sense of belongingness among existing customers. Strong relationship, proper support
from leaders helps in effective coordination and reduction of conflict so that they can focus on
accomplishment of task. Appropriate break time, working hours motivate and satisfy need of
employees to retain with organisation. Rewards and recognition of employees through use of
innovative technologies such as social media influence individual to enhance their performance.
Manager gratitude, appreciate employees that have work hard in previous years, respect needs,
ideas of each individual so that they can provide by safe and secure environment. Therefore all
such steps are taken by HR manager of Tesco so that employees can be provide safe and secure
environment while they are performing different function. It has also be analysed that health and
safety work environment is useful for both employees and employer of firm. Tesco brand image,
customers, employees satisfaction has increased due to improvement in performance of
individual as they are happy and satisfied with working environment. Company is able to expand
its market share, profitability through effective utilisation of employee’s capabilities and skills.
Therefore there are various importance of health and safety of employees for long term growth

and survival of Tesco in retail industry as it ensure safety of most important resources that is
human being.
Reflection
I have learnt lot many things from research conducted such as roles of HR in providing
employees healthy and safe work environment so that they can perform their respective duties. I
also learnt importance of healthy and safe working environment in effective achievement of
organisational goals. At the same time various methods that can be used to provide safe working
environment so that maximum performance can be utilised for long term growth and expansion
of enterprise. From the above analysis I have learnt so many skills such as written
communication, research, and analytical skill, ability to use various technologies so that data can
be collected and effective result can be gathered. While collected data, various information
through books, journals, articles my research skills have enhanced. On the other hand analytical
skills have be developed as I am able to analysis final result from different information so that
accurate decision can be take. Therefore as per my experienced the research has improved lot of
my skills such as research, data collection and analytical so that I can get various opportunities in
future to use my skills, knowledge to perform different functions.
Recommendation
From the above analysis various recommendation for TESCO managers to make better,
healthy and safe working place so that employees can perform their work are as follows:
1. Employees should be provided information about various hazards in working place
so that they can avoid or safe themselves from such danger zones.
2. Innovative technologies need to be used by manager of Tesco to supervise activities
of individual so that uncertain events can be occurred and appropriate steps can be
taken within limited time.
3. Needs and wants of employees need to be identify by manager of Tesco on
continuous basis so that various strategies can be formulated to fulfil all such
demands.
4. Employees need not be pressurised or forced to work for extra hours as such rules
directly impact on mental and physical health of individual. Proper breaks and
holiday helps in maintaining health and well-being of individual so that it can
perform work with fresh energy.

5. At last manager of Tesco make sure that various resource, equipment are present in
every stores for safety of employees and employer such as fire alarm, exist door.
Therefore manager by taking such steps will definitely influence individual to
retained within organisation and provide qualitative services to customers.
CONCLUSION
It can be concluded from above analysis it is responsibility of HR manager to ensure of
health and safety at workplaces so that various function of firm can be easily performed. It can
also be explained that health and safety measure helps in motivating employees to work in
definite manner so that firm can achieve its predetermined goals. At last human are important
resource so there safety and security is one of the most important duty of HR manager of
company.
