In today’s time, it becomes very important for the management to give high focus on
motivation theory and techniques to attain high growth and success in the large competitive
marketplace. Tesco is the largest retailer organisation all over the world that provides high-
quality products and services to its customers. This company wants to open its new store
“Jack” successfully in the marketplace. To motivate employees of Jack Store it is necessary
to focus on different motivational techniques. The manager of Jack store considers required
motivational theories to increase motivational factor among employees so that they can
perform in most appropriate as well as proper manner. In this assignment different
motivational theories will be examined in the context of Jack store. For achieving high
success, productivity, profitability, and success Jack Store need to adopt the most effective
motivational technique to motivate employees towards the set goals.

Motivational Techniques
Management needs to motivate and encourage employees on regular basis to achieve high
success and growth in the tough competitive business environment. It is highly important for
the manager of Jack Store to understand the needs of employees and manage them properly
by adopting effective motivational theory. The key function of manager of Jack Store is
getting work done” through its employees timely (Kaur, 2013). Nowadays rapid changes take
place in the business world so it becomes very much important for the manager of Jack Store
to motivate its staff and also assist them in improving their performance.
To motivate employees of Jack store manager use two different motivational technique which
is Maslow’s theory of motivation and Herzberg 2 factor theory of motivation. With the help
of these two motivational techniques manager of Jack store will easily motivate employees to
achieve desired goals, productivity, and profitability. These two motivational theories are
examined as below:
Maslow’s theory of motivation
By using Maslow’s theory of motivation manager of Jack store can easily increase motivation
factor among employees in the workplace. It is one of the most effective and oldest theories
that is used by the manager of Jack store to motivate employees for increasing their
productivity and performance level. It is important for the manager to follow this theory step
by step for achieving the best outcomes (Jerome, 2013). Maslow’s needs theory is used by
the manager to fulfill the basic desire and wants of employees. There are five steps involved
in this theory which must be followed by the manager of Jack. These are discussed as below:
Physiological needs: It is highly important for the manager of Jack store to fulfill their basic
needs and wants of employees such as food, water, and shelter because without these needs it
is impossible for human being to survive. The manager must provide salary and wages to
employees that fulfill their physiological needs in a proper way.
Safety needs: It is a second need which includes financial and personal security and health
and well being that must be fulfilled by the organisation to motivate employees towards the
work.
Social needs: The social need must be fulfilled that includes the need for relationship, family,
and friendship that play important role in human’s life.

level of profitability and productivity in the tough competitive business environment
(Ozguner and Ozguner, 2014). Herzberg 2 factor theory of motivation is also known as the
hygiene theory that is used by the manager to increase the motivation factor among
employees. In the Herzberg 2 factor theory of motivation two job factors are includes which
are examined as follows:
Hygiene factors
With the help of the hygiene factor manager of Jack Store can easily increase motivation
among employees so that they can perform roles and responsibilities in the most appropriate
manner. By using this factor manager can easily satisfy needs, wants and requirement of
employees in the workplace that motivate them towards the work. Hygiene factor plays a

theory in a proper way. It is necessary for manager of Jack store to motivate and encourage
employees towards the work so that they will perform effectively to achieve set outcomes in
an effective manner. In this assignment, two motivational theories has been used which are
Herzberg 2 factor theory of motivation and Maslow’s theory of motivation. With the help of
these motivational theory managers of Jack Store motivate employees towards the work for
