inspiring group of people for acting towards attainment of identical goals is defined as leadership
(Pihlainen, Kivinen and Lammintakanen, 2016). Both are essential assets of an organisation as
each different set of roles and responsibilities towards organisation in which they deliver their
services. This report is based on Tesco which is British multinational general merchandise and
grocery retailer who are UK based and was founded in 1919. They deliver their services within
around 6800 stores and they includes convenience shop, superstore, hypermarket and
supermarket. This report comprises of managerial work, role of leadership along with different
aspects associated with leadership, management and behavioural approach.
Background
Tesco is leading retailer with near about 4,50,000 colleagues and they serve ample
number of customer every week both via online as well as stores. There vision comprises of five
elements which aspires them to be what they are. These includes: wanted & needed to be around
world, a growing business which is complete of opportunities, innovative, modern as well as full
of ideas and gaining loyalty & trust from distinct members. Tesco have certain values which are
being utilised by them for rendering their services, they includes that no one tries harder for
individuals, people are treated in way they should be and every small assistance will lead to
creation of bigger difference. There mission is to make what matters better, together. This makes
it third largest retailer within the world that is measured through gross revenues and it is in
number ninth in terms of revenue. It is also listed within London stock exchange as well as this is
at FTSE 100 index. As per the London Stock exchange it is 28th largest company. They have
diversified their services in the areas like clothing, furniture, petrol, retailing of books, internet,
telecom and internet services. They ensure that enhanced offers and discounts are given to their
customers so that they can be attracted towards products which are being delivered by them.
This report is based on the managerial work implies characteristics which are possessed
by manager within their working environment. Execute greater amount of work at an inexorable
speed or pace as well as undertake actions which marked through fragmentation, brevity and
variety (Bush, Bell and Middlewood, 2019). Manager is liable for allocating as well as indicating

activities which have to be carried by leaders. Furthermore, the leaders of Tesco must
acknowledge the ways in which communication is being carried out in an organisation. Leader
formulates vision and mission according to goals which are being communicated by manager. It
is crucial to have a two way communication in between them as this will enable each to deliver
their services in an enhanced way (Al-Ali and et. al., 2017). A clear directions or guidelines for
firm are being rendered by efficacious leader and they are responsible for interacting compelling
vision through presenting, speaking as well as writing. Effective managers are responsible for
controlling as well as directing individuals as per formulated procedures & policies. They have
management skills through which day-to-day actions can be carried out in a smooth manner
(Haile, Emmanuel and Dzathor, 2016). For being successful both the assets are required within
Tesco as by this they can render their services within specified time frame and achieve the needs
of their customers in an impelling manner.
The theories are developed as a response for needs to account for employee motivation
and behaviour is defined as behavioural management. This approach illustrates that managers
can acknowledge perspectives of human as well as treat each employee as an crucial asset for
attainment of goals (Solomon, Costea and Nita, 2016). This approach is being classified into two
sections, they are: behavioural science and human relations approach. When the value is given to
performance, behaviour and attitude of groups & people in a firm is referred to as behavioural
science approach. This approach emphasise on nature of work as well as degree up to which
needs of humans will be satisfied. When Tesco will make use of behavioural theory they can
have improvised utilisation of teams for attainment of organisational goals along with this, focus
will be made on development as well as training of staff. Furthermore, through this mangers as
well as leaders will make use of incentive and reward techniques through which employees can
be motivated (Madsen and Scribner, 2017).
When individual acknowledge a situation in a group or single-handedly then there
performance is influenced via diverse factors. The key factors that are liable for creating an
impact on attitude of individual's life are: gender, abilities, race & culture, perceptions, attitude
and attribution (Pihlainen, Kivinen and Lammintakanen, 2016). An example can be taken to
understand this, like age seems a number so it is considered that one who possess more age will
be experienced and can easily handle different situations which prevails within Tesco but at
present scenario individuals are more competitive, innovative and are gadgets freak which makes

experience and knowledge will yield affirmative outcomes on the performance of firm.
Conclusion
From above it can be concluded that both leaders and managers have crucial role within
the firm which enables them to attain their goals in an enhanced manner. For carrying out their
responsibilities they possess leadership as well as management respectively. To ensure that goals
of firm are attained in an appropriate manner, firm can make use behavioural theories to analyse
the behaviour of team or an individual so that overall performance can be enhanced. There
certain factors which creates a strong impact on individuals, they must be identified and
accordingly appropriate methods must be used through which their performance graph do not
decline.
