The roles of leaders and managers are different in different situations in Tesco,
understanding that factor is very essential so that the functioning and productivity of the
organization can be maintained. The situation which is in front of Tesco is hiring and motivating
employees in the company.
Tesco is a very established company in market of United Kingdom therefore it is very
important for the company to hire managers who are going to be efficient in the work they are
going to be assigned (Garza-Reyes and et.al., 2017). Managers of the company have to make
sure that there is no extra recruitment in the company of employees so that they can have cost
saving. The decision-making of recruitment is not just in the hands of the human resource
department but it is also in the hands of the managers of the company. It is very important that
the right skilled employees are got in the company for the best of Tesco which will increase the
productivity of business. Final interview is taken by the manager of the company so that the right
candidate would be selected which will help the company maintain their standards in market and
in front of the customers. Motivation is given to the employees not just by human resource but
also the managers and they have to make sure that the employees of Tesco are giving their best
in the company for the better productivity of organization.

can have a better functioning for themselves which will make the company function effectively
and efficiently. Leaders have to use the skills of the employees in the right place and their
expertise in the right manner for the organization to profit from it. Motivation to the employees
is also given by the leaders of the company. Hiring is not in the hands of the leaders but leaders
can make the employees work and put in their personal best in company (Dierynck and Labro,

P3 Different theories and models of approach
Situational Leadership
In situational leadership there are four types of styles which are involved, directing,
delegating, supporting and coaching. Leaders of Tesco must follow these steps to get the
employees of the company working (Hill and Hill, 2017). Leaders have to train the employees so
well that they can complete the tasks on time and make the company have a better market for
themselves. Targets and objective of Tesco have to be completed which the leader motivates the
employees to do so that the company can have a good brand image and meet the demands and
needs of the customers. Healthy and safe environment is expected by employees which the
leaders must make sure that they are providing the employees with that factor.
Advantages of this style are that the employees will give their best to the organization
because this style gets a friendly environment in the organization. Disadvantages of this style
are that there is no clarity in organization because of lack of information provided to leaders.
Limitations on the creativity of the organization and it are very important for Tesco to get new
ideas so that they can capture the competitive market for themselves.
System Leadership
Leaders of Tesco need to understand the human behaviour so that the processing and
functioning of work can take place in a better and systematic manner. Experience will help the
leaders to make the right decisions for the company which is going to be very beneficial for a
long run of Tesco (Fiorentino, 2016). Leader of Tesco are answerable to managers of the
company and therefore it is very important for the leaders to give their best in the company.
Right decisions have to be taken by managers and leaders have a say in that process therefore it
is very important for the leaders to understand the employees and then make decisions
accordingly.
Advantages through this style the employees of Tesco will get motivated and increase
the efficiency of the company which will help the company to meet the demand and needs of the
customers from time to time. Disadvantages of this style are that there will be slower processing
and will be more time-consuming. This is not suitable for Tesco because of the time restrictions
otherwise this is very beneficial for larger organizations (Khan, 2018).

Tesco always analyses the internal and external factors which have an influence on the
company so that the decisions the company is making are accordingly. Managers of Tesco
always keep in mind that the decisions they are making are going to be accepted and
appropriated by the employees so that the company will find it easier for the changes to come in
the company from time to time. To increase the productivity it is very important to make the
employees feel comfortable in the working environment. There are standards of Tesco which are
ready set which the managers have to maintain by taking the right decisions for the company
(Belvedere and Grando, 2017). Employees of Tesco must be kept under control so that the
company can reach their targets and make the most from that factor for a long run in market.
Trends in the market are changing therefore it is very important for the managers to keep making
changes in the company so that there is a better functioning in the organization.
Advantage of this style is that the decisions will be taken by Tesco according to the
employee’s satisfaction so that the productivity of the company is better and the company will be
able to have a better market for themselves. Disadvantage of this style is that it is very complex
in nature and the company will not be able to function properly. This is going to be time-
consuming and the company will not be able to keep too many determines while following this
method.
